After seeing this, the boy's eyes were 9 of tears. The boy said, "Grandpa, you taught me a 10 which I will never forget. It's more blessed (幸福) to give than to receive."
Asking for directions is the first thing we do when we arrive in a new place, or even when we are just trying to find a strange place. Knowing how to ask for them can make our life much easier.
Use greetings and polite expressions. Starting the conversation with a greeting is necessary. If you want to get a nice answer, you'd better begin by saying "hello" first. And some words like "may" "can" and "could" will help you express yourself better.
Build your words. You should knew the basic words when asking for directions. It may be useful for you to remember some famous places. Then try to use the right words when asking for a direction.
Get to know the transportation system. Sometimes, you're likely to find that you are still far from the place you want to visit. Which kind of public transportation should you choose? You might ask like this. Is it far? Do I need to take the bus or the subway there?
Don't be afraid of using symbols. Every city in the world has its own symbols. You can decrease search time if you know what the most important symbols are in the city. And if you pay attention to your place, you may find that there are many symbols here.
Don't be too shy to ask. Learn to relax if you get lost somewhere. Every person may do that now and then, especially when visiting a new city. But always make sure you can ask others for help.
Chris is not a traditional explorer(探险者)- he usually works in an office for a large organization. Yet his job can sometimes be just as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer. Chris works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生). MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster. Chris is a doctor from France who has travelled to many places to organize programmes that help people.
At the moment, there are over 27,000 trained medical staff(工作人员) taking part in MSF projects and tasks. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can join in MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world and, of course, they should expect difficult conditions. Doctors with experience in tropical(热带的)diseases are especially useful because most of MSF's work is in Africa. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, he has to go for at least six months.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life and a good salary to join MSF? According to Chris, the experience is a great help in your career(生涯). At the end of each task, you help people in need and have made a real difference to people's lives.
When I was little, I used to be afraid of the dark. I always thought that there was a ghost in my closet(壁橱). Houses often made strange noises at night. Sometimes I could feel eyes watching me and I was afraid to move. I thought that if I didn't move, "they" wouldn't get me. Usually when this happened, I wanted to go to the bathroom. So before going there I would be huddling(缩作一团)under my quilt, trying to build up the courage for scary night-time trip to the bathroom.
My fear of the dark left me when I was in my early teens. I had a dream. In my dream, I saw this ghost. He was right in front of me. I somehow found the courage. I was so angry with him that I beat him. This dream was so exciting that I can still remember it. After this dream, my fear of the dark was gone. I'm not afraid of the dark or anything else anymore.
Has anyone else had a dream like this that helped him or her?
How important is music? Many people usually think that listening to music is nice but not very important. It is often only thought to be entertainment, but not the first choice for education. This opinion is wrong.
Music reflects the musicians' thoughts and ideas, and the social environment they came from. For example, just as Mozart's music represents a lifestyle and rock music also represents a lifestyle. George Gershwin's music is another example. He introduced jazz style into his music.
Science explains how the sun rises and sets. Music explores emotional (情绪) meanings, such as sadness and happiness. People need every possible way to learn about our world.
It's a special language. We can "talk" to each other and exchange our thoughts in this amazing way. Through the language we express our feelings, discoveries, ideas and hopes. All of these can be shared with others. When we do not let our children receive a good music education, we take them away from the meaning that music expresses. Our children are lacking in a wonderful part in their lives.
