At the age of 19, dreaming of snowboarding, I took a(n) 2and moved to a snowy place where I could make money and control my life.
Suddenly, my life took a detour(弯路). One day, I left work 3 because I thought I had a cold. But 24 hours later I was in the 4 on life support with little chance of living. Over three months, I5 both of my legs after several operations.
Out of hospital, I was totally6. The darkest moment was when I first saw my new legs. I tried hard to7 after I put the heavy metal legs on. However, I felt so 8that I had to give up. For months, I just stayed in bed with my new 9 resting by my side. How was l going to snowboard again? I had no answer at all.
10 I knew that in order to move forward, I had to let go of the Old Amy and learn to11the New Amy. I told myself, with those metal legs if I snowboarded again my feet wouldn't get12 in the thick snow. Best of all, I could make my feet the size of all the shoes.
It was that moment that I asked myself the 13. Then I began daydreaming like I did as a little girl. I 14 myself snowboarding down a high mountain again and I could even feel the wind 15 my face in that very moment.
And that is when a new chapter(篇章) in my life began.

A hunter once lost his way in the forest while running after a deer. As hard as he tried, he could not find a way out of the forest, nor could he find any food to eat. He felt so hungry that he could eat an elephant in one go. Disappointed, he lost all hope. And that was exactly when he saw an apple tree. It was the best possible surprise anyone could have given him. He picked some apples to feed him for the rest of his search.
As he ate the first apple, he felt thankful for finding the tree. He thanked the forest. He could not believe his luck when he ate the first apple. but he was less thankful while eating the second one and even less thankful after eating the third apple…With each passing apple, his hunger didn't go away and he became less and less happy. ▲
Why? He had already taken for granted to find an apple tree in the middle of a forest. When he took the tenth apple in his hand, he was still very hungry, but he just did not feel like eating any more. Scientists call it the tenth apple effect.
The tenth apple did not lack taste and can help us end the man's hunger. The only thing lacking was his thankfulness for finding food in the middle of the forest.
A young man entered the last interview of a company. The director found the young man's academic grade were very good.
"Did you get any scholarships(奖学金)in school?" The director asked. "None. " The young man answered.
"Was it your father who paid for your school fees?" the director asked. "My father passed away when I was one year old, so it was my mother who paid for my school fees. " the young man answered.
"Where did your mother work?" the director asked. "My mother cleaned clothes. " the young man said. The director looked at the young man's hands. He had a pair of smooth and perfect hands.
"Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?" the director asked. "Never," the young man answered. "I have a request,"the director said. "When you go back home today, go and clean your mother's hands, and then see me tomorrow morning. "
The young man felt that his chance of getting the job was big. When he went back, he happily asked his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange. Happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The young man cleaned his mother's hands slowly. His tears fell as he did that. It was the first time he had noticed his mother's hands were so wrinkled. He realised it was this pair of hands that helped him pay the fees.
The next morning, the young man went to the director's office. "I cleaned my mother's hands, and I know that without my mother, I would not be the person I am today. " he said.
"This is what I am looking for in my manager. " the director said. "I want a person who can appreciate the help of others to get things done. You get the job!"
Need to buy something? Why go to a store? Buy it on the Internet! Need it now? Why wait? Ask to receive it the next day! Each day, more and more people try on-line shopping. In fact, online sales have doubled in the last ten years. But not everyone is excited. Some scientists now say that online shopping is bad for the environment.
"People are surprised to hear this. " They think, "I don't need to drive, and the business doesn't need to build a store, so there will be less pollution. "says Nuria Prost, an environmental scientist. "But it is not so simple. In fact, online shopping is wasteful. It also adds to air pollution. "
In truth, the Internet is not always as good a friend to the environment as it seems. For example, most people thought that the Internet would help offices use less paper and other materials. But paper use increased by 33 percent between 1986 and 1997. "Online shopping could have similarly harmful results," says Nevil Cohen, a researcher of environmental science. Part of the problem is what people are buying these days. In the past, people bought things on the Internet that did not require much packing material, such as books and clothing. But now people also shop online for large, heavy products such as televisions, computers, chairs and tables. These products need to be packed in lots of plastic and paper. This creates a lot of waste.
Another problem caused by online shopping is air pollution. When customers buy products and ask to receive them the next day, online businesses often have to send them by air. Airplanes use much more oil than cars and produce more carbon dioxide(二氧化碳). When people buy a lot of different things from different online businesses, this creates even more travel by airplane.
Online product returns are also a problem. For example, an online shoe store may allow customers to return shoes for free if they are wrong size. This doubles the packing materials and number of airline trips required to sell one pair of shoes.
"If people want to protect the environment, they need to think before they shop," says Prost. People need to ask themselves: Is this exactly what I want? Do I really need it tomorrow, or can I wait? Online stores can also ask customers to pay money for returns. This may make people shop more carefully. "Online shopping is fast and easy,"says Prost, "but we can't forget the harmful result it has caused to the environment.

As a saying goes, "If you have a good friend, your joys are doubled and your sadness is halved". Friends are a helping hand, a comforting shoulder, a patient ear to listen to you. Man is a social animal by nature. We all need friends, so it is necessary for you to know how to make friends.
The first step is to open yourself up. If you want to make good friends, you should be able to share your thoughts and feelings with other people. When you are in a conversation, you'd better express your own thoughts and feelings. If a conversation is one-sided, the person doing all the talking may think the other person is not interested in what he is saying.
One of the most important keys to building a strong friendship with other people is to listen to them—really listen. When your friends tell you something that happened to them or complain about a situation, they are usually not looking for agreement but just want to be heard. So don't try to change their mind or solve their problems, just let them know that you are listening to them.
Respecting your friends is also important to keep your relationships healthy and strong. Looking at your friends while they are talking to you is one way to show your respect, as they will feel that what they are saying is important to you.
Unconditional support and encouragement is one of the things which friends have. True friendship means offering a shoulder when they need it, crying with them when they are sad, and laughing with them when they are happy. Only in this way, can the tree of friendship last for a long time.
