On August 5, 2021, Chinese sportswoman Quan Hongchan became the youngest Chinese diver (跳水运动员) to win a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Quan was born on March 28, 2007 and grew up in the small village of Maihe, Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. She is the third among the five children in her family. Quan started diving at the age of 7 in Zhanjiang and joined the Guangdong provincial team in 2018. Quan has spent almost all her time on hard training. She had never been to a zoo or an amusement park before 2021.
When people asked her how to celebrate the success as an Olympic champion (冠军), Quan said, "In many ways. My mom had a car accident four years ago. I wanted to make more money to help cure (治愈) her. My gold medal is the best gift for her. Now, the most important thing is to prepare for our National Games which will be held in September."
It's late autumn in the Arctic Ocean (大西洋). The water is covered with ice. It's difficult for the white whales to breathe, so they come up to find openings in the ice to get enough air. As the winter is coming, they know it's time to leave.
A group of about a hundred white whales swim south toward the Bering Sea. Halfway through their journey, their enemy, an orca (虎鲸)is swimming toward the white whales. With the help of large ice floes (浮冰), the white whales swim faster than the orca. This gives the white whales time to swim away.
After a few more days of swimming, they arrive at the Bering Sea. The white whales will rest, hunt, and play here until April, then they'll swim back to the Arctic Ocean.
When you walk on the street, you may see a lot of Chinese restaurants. Chinese food has been enjoyed in western countries for a long time. To make westerners enjoy Chinese food better, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes.
"One example is the meat," said Yin Hang, who is studying at the University of Wollongong in Australia. "We like to eat meat with the bone (骨头) in China, but people here don't. Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones."
Some Chinese brands are also becoming more popular. In many cities in Europe, stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers, reported Reuters (路透社).
In the past, most western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable. But things have changed greatly. "Made in China" has become cool and more people trust Chinese brands.
