①Do you have a nickname(昵称)? What is it? Let's see what some students say about their nicknames.
②Zhao Ye: My PE teacher likes to call me "bone(骨头)". I'm in Grade 7 this year. I'm very thin and tall. And I'm just 35 kg. I have long legs. They look like two sticks. So people call me "bone".
③Chen Xiaomeng: My nickname is "Chen little little". My friend gave it to me. When she waits for me after class, she always calls: "Chen Xiaomeng Chen little little ... " Someone even calls me "Mini Chen". That is a cute and funny nickname.
④Zhu Xinyue: My classmate calls me: "Hello Zhu!" "Hello Liu, but don't call me that. It sounds like a pig." So I let him give me a nice nickname. He thinks for a long time and gives me a lovely one: pig baby.
⑤Sun Haoran: My nickname is Koala. My mother gave it to me. I went to Australia when I was in my mother's belly(肚子). She studied in Australia. She loves it very much. There are lots of koalas and kangaroos. They are special and so cute. She wants to remember her days in Australia. So my mother gave me the nickname Koala. I love it.
Every morning, I am always training in a gym. At the same time, there is another man taking exercise, too. A few weeks ago, I was watching him do chin-ups. I had never tried a chin-up before, but he made it look so easy, so I came up to him and asked if I could try it. He agreed and let me have a try on the bar(棒).
I pulled myself up without thinking. Once… and then twice. Then I told him I couldn't do it any more, so he stood up behind me and pushed me up for a third and fourth "pull". It felt so good.
The next day I asked him to let me try again. Again, I did two. And I couldn't do more than that on Day 3 and Day 4. I thought it was a great pity. When I came to the gym at the end of the week, he told me I did a wonderful job. He said when they were training firefighters, the men had to do five chin-ups, and the women should do one or two. Most people couldn't do them at all, so he was surprised that I could. Then, he told me that if I practiced every day, I would be able to do five or six very soon.
In fact, I am already 50 years old… and a woman. If he had told me how difficult it was at the very beginning, I would probably not try at all. Or I might try, but I would not try my best, because it would surely end with giving up.
I thanked him for letting me believe that success was not only a possible thing but a dream that could really come true one day.
Language students often think they have memory(记忆) problems. They worry because they can't remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn't with their memory. The problem is with how they study. In my opinion, using a right way is the most important.
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you see, hear or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds, that means we will forget things soon in short-term memory. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many books. And like a library, it's organized. When you put away a book or memory, you can't just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
How can you do this with vocabulary(词汇)? The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences with the word in it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is "height", you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
This is my idea about how to improve ways to remember words, and I hope it can help you.
People know the dangers of fires. It's good for a family to learn how to deal with a fire. Here are some tips:
Smoke from a fire makes the alarm go off. The alarm makes a loud sound. The sound tells everyone to leave the house at once.
They should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.
Buy fire extinguishers (灭火器) in the house. Everyone in the family should know how to use them.
They do fire practice because they teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules:
The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door. Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best air is near the floor because smoke rises.
First, stop! Don't run! The fire burns faster because of more air. Drop the clothes. Fall to the floor. Then roll! Turning over and over will make the fire go out. Put a blanket (毯子) around you to keep air away from the fire that may still be on you. A clever family is ready all the time. If there is a fire, don't forget to call 119 for help.
A. What will you do if your hair or clothes start to burn? B. Don't open a hot door! C. There are many causes for fires. D. Practice for a fire. E. Put a smoke alarm in the house. F. Make escape plans. |
When shopping for clothes, my mom and I always have different ideas. To me, if it zips(拉上拉链), it's OK. However, my mom thinks I'm too fat and I need a bigger1.
When I was in middle school, I wanted to dress2my friends, but my body size is too big. Every time when my mom told me3fit ( 适 合 ) me or I needed a bigger one, I knew she meant I was too4That's why we stopped shopping together.
Then one day I was going to get married and needed to find a wedding5. Of course, I could buy it6. However, my mom was an important person to me, so it was quite7if I went without her.
Then the day came. As I8a white dress, I saw tears in my mom's eyes. "You look very9in it, my dear." She told me. It surprised me a lot!
In fact, this dress didn't zip up at the back and I really need a bigger one,10my mother didn't say that. She just told me she couldn't11how beautiful I looked with words. At that moment, all those12experiences(经历) we had in the past were gone. We didn't buy a dress that day but the shopping experience was great. I13thought this would happen before.
Finally, we found a14dress after a few weeks' shopping trips. And during those few weeks, mom and I also found the perfect fit for our15relationship.
Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, is thought to be (beautiful) city in the world. I always wanted to go there, and (luck), I got a chance this summer. My mum agreed (take) me there.
We went to Hangzhou by plane. As we know, Hangzhou is famous the West Lake, we went to the West Lake on the first day. It was fantastic! People living there told us that the West Lake was more beautiful on (rain) days. But we weren't sure about that. So if you are in Hangzhou, you can enjoy the beautiful sights for (you).
As one of China's six ancient capital (city), Hangzhou has a history of more than 2, 000 years. It is also home to silk and its silk products are well-known all over the world. So the next day we went to the old streets and (buy) different silk products for our family and friends. We really had good time there. I hope to visit Hangzhou again.
—You'd better take the t and see a doctor.
