I've seen several movies of this kind, but this one is the best. It is so well made—some of the scenes are so beautiful.
—John
I went to see this movie with my 8-year-old daughter this Tuesday, really without knowing too much about it. My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised at how funny it was. We just couldn't help laughing. I would recommend this movie to the whole family.

Do you have the experience of taking music lessons against your wishes? Perhaps you have complained about it because you thought it took you much playtime. But now you'd better thank your parents for their time and money spent on your musical training. A recent study suggests music lessons can make children have better memories than their peers (同龄人).
The Canadian study showed that after one year of musical training, children did better on a memory test than those who didn't take music lessons.
The researchers made the children aged between 4 and 6 into two groups—one group of children took music lessons outside school, and the other didn't take any musical training. In one year, they took four tests in different times. The results showed brain(大脑) development changes at least every four months.
The children taking music lessons not only did better in musical listening but also made faster progress in other ways, such as reading, writing, math and IQ.
People say music is the good medicine for a broken heart. Now it seems music can also help us to improve our memories. We are sure to find more and more in the wonderful world of music.
I arrived in the UK last weekend to learn English. So far I have already had a few friends and had some traditional English food here. But after having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes, I thought none could be more delicious than Chinese food, especially my favorite—huo guo. You can't imagine how excited I was when I got to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell huo guo in the air.
To my surprise, when I went into the room, I didn't see any sign of huo guo. Where was it?
With many questions in my mind, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with an English girl, I got to know that Chinese huo guo is completely different from hotpot. Chinese huo guo is written in two words—hot pot; and hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.
Hotpot is made from mutton and onion. On the top are pieces of potatoes. People put it in the oven all day in a heavy pot at a low heat. It takes very little effort to prepare. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it's easy to prepare for a large number of people and is not expensive.
Hotpot doesn't taste bad. However, I still miss huo guo, hot pot, two words!
The play takes place in a typical, old Beijing teahouse. The main characters are the teahouse's owner (Wang Lifa) and his customers, who all live in the same neighborhood.
The play reflects(反 映 ) changes in the lives of almost 70 characters. It includes three parts. The first act takes place in 1898 at the time of the Qing Dynasty.
In Teahouse, the writer Lao She says goodbye to the old Chinese society and hello to the new one. It's about the changes that have taken place in Chinese society in almost 50 years.
Some come to do business. Others come just to sit and pass the time. There are some good, kind people and there are also some bad, nasty(讨厌的) characters. They meet, they talk, they argue, they gossip(闲聊) and then they get on with their lives.
It is still one of the most popular plays in China. It is a favorite work by Lao She, one of China's most popular writers. Anyone who is interested in Chinese life and history should see the play.
A. All types of people come to the teahouse in Beijing. B. It helps one to understand Chinese culture better. C. They come in and out of the teahouse and talk to each other. D. You may wonder why Teahouse was so popular. E. Teahouse was first put on in 1958. F. The second act jumps forward 20 years and the final act takes place in 1948. |
