As we know, trees are of great importance to us. They not only produce oxygen for us to breathe,1also provide us with rich materials(材料). Many things in our daily lives come from trees. For example, lots of the furniture is made2wood. Besides, there are many3things you use almost every day, such as pencils, paper and so on. Trees are so important that it's everyone's duty to protect4.
However, people cut down plenty of trees5money every year. As a result, trees are in 6now. Luckily, there7still a lot of things all of us can do! We can plant more trees. It is 8easy way to help protect the environment. Ask your parents if you can plant some trees in your backyard or ask your teacher if you can plant trees in the school. Additionally, knowing about the forest problems is very important, too. Discuss them with your classmates. And you can even tell your parents what you learnt.
We can't imagine9in a treeless world. Without trees, it would get too hot for us to live on the Earth. So, to have a good living environment, we must10good care of trees and stop cutting them down.
Once upon a time, there was a small inn(客栈) in a mountain village. The innkeeper always thought about1. One day, a2man stopped at the inn. The innkeeper looked at the man's fat wallet (钱包) and thought, "Oh, how I wish all that money could be mine!" The rich man3for the best room at the inn and went to rest.
All around the inn grew ginger(姜) plants. In the village, there is a saying that4too many ginger buds(花蕾) makes you stupid and forgetful. This gave the innkeeper an idea. Later that evening, the rich man ate a lot of ginger buds.

On 1 January, 2022, China's Shenzhou-13 astronauts, Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, were in the country's space station. Most specially, they were China's first astronauts to celebrate the beginning of the New Year in space!
They had a video call with young people in Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao. They sent their New Year greetings and answered questions from university students in the three cities.
In reply to the questions from the students, the astronauts shared stories about their life and work in space. For example, they made the students know how to keep their physical and mental(身体和精神的) health in space. Besides, the students also learnt something about how to deal with unexpected situations(难以预料的情况) in space from the astronauts. What's more, the astronauts expressed their feelings as an astronaut, too.
To finish a six-month mission(任务), the three astronauts were sent to China's space station on 16 October, 2021. That meant they had to celebrate the traditional Chinese lunar New Year up there. But in their eyes, nothing is more important than our country's interests(利益). Where there is a country, there is a home. Although they couldn't reunite with their families during the Spring Festival, their hearts were linked to(与······相连) each other.
My mum loves to feed birds. She puts a birdfeeder(鸟食槽) in the big tree in front of our house. Then, she waits for the birds to come. She enjoys watching all the birds coming to cat there.
There was once a problem, though. Every year two squirrels(松鼠) came and stole(偷) all the bird food. It really frustrated my mum. "Why do they think they can steal all the bird food?" she said. "If I wanted to feed them, I would set up a squirrel feeder. "
Over the years, Mum has tried every way in the book to keep the squirrels away. But squirrels have a lot of talent. Mum once put up a fence(栅栏). But the squirrels just found a way to jump over it. It seemed Mum wouldn't win.
Mum didn't give up easily, though. Two weeks ago, she went on the Internet and read all about the problem with squirrels stealing from bird feeders. She found a new way successfully. This weekend, Mum caught the two squirrels in a trap(捕捉器). She drove them outside of the city and let them go free.
Now, only birds come to Mum's bird feeder. She is happy. The birds are happy. And of course, the two squirrels are happy living in the countryside where there is always lots of food to eat. I think everyone wins.
(Jay Portman talks about his unusual hobby, hill running, and tells us why he enjoys it. )
Hill running is a sport of running up and down hills and mountains, through open countryside. It's not popular among my friends, but I love it. My dad took me and my brothers out running when I was seven. Soon, I fell in love with it. Later I joined a hill running club called the York Merlins.
There are some excellent runners in the club. When we do our practice runs, I'm always a long way behind them. But that doesn't bother(使······烦恼) me. They are nice and often give me advice. What I love is being outdoors and finding all these beautiful places that I never knew were there.
We race against other clubs at weekends. In these races, someone tells the runners where to finish, but not how to get there. You need a good map and compass(指南针) so you don't get lost. Everyone starts together at the beginning, but later in the race you often find yourself running alone.
Anyone can enter these races—you just get there in the morning, pay your £5, and run. There are no T-shirts or medals(奖牌) for the winners. The most you get is a piece of cake! Offen there are international(国际的) hill running champions taking part, but they are just as friendly as everyone else.
That doesn't mean it's an easy sport. Last weekend I did a race in heavy rain and high winds, and I was asking myself what I was doing out there. But I got to the end, and that was an amazing feeling.
Once upon a time, there was a king who had a grand palace with a beautiful garden. In the garden lived all kinds of animals.
The king liked everything in the garden except(除……之外) one thing—the big tree in the centre of the garden. It was old and dry and it made the king so angry that he finally asked some people to cut it down. But after that, the animals left the garden one after another. The king was sad, but he didn't know what happened.
Hearing the news, a wise old man went to the king, and said he could tell him what happened. "This was because you cut down the old tree," said the old man. " Birds ate the moths(飞蛾) and then they produced waste for plants to grow. The plants then attracted(吸引) many other animals to your garden. So your garden became very beautiful. "
Only then did he know the importance of trees.
A. How regretful(后悔的) the king was! B. And all of them enjoyed living there. C. There were thousands of moths living in the tree. D. But the animals had to leave because you cut down the tree. E. Without the animals, the garden was not as beautiful as before. |
Plant milk is not new to us. Many people drink it. We can easily get plant milk in supermarkets, for e, coconut milk(椰奶).
In the past, dairy milk(牛奶) played a m part in our daily lives. However, more and more scientists find that people don't need to drink dairy milk to be healthy. We can change to plant milk.
The first reason why we should drink plant milk is that it is good for the Earth. Animal agriculture(畜牧业) produces many h gases. By changing from dairy milk to plant milk, we are s the Earth.
Another reason is that plant milk is good for our health. It can help prevent(防止) a lot of d. What's more, plant milk has lots of healthy ingredients(成分).
