What You Need to Know
On the morning of the trip, the students will be divided into teams. One student from each team will receive a camera. The camera person will take pictures of the team, the animals, and other fun sights at the zoo.
All students should wear blue shirts. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because we will be walking all day. Please bring a bag lunch and a drink. We will have a picnic at the park inside the zoo. Bring a healthy snack, such as a piece of fruit and a drink, for later in the day.
When we are at the zoo, always remain with your team. Do not leave the team without asking permission from the team leader.
Feeding the Animals
The only animals that students are allowed to feed are those in the Children's Zoo. Special food can be bought at the zoo for 25 cents and given to these animals. Do not feed your lunch to them. It is not good for the animals.
Parent Information
The cost is $1.00 for students and $3.00 for adults to enter the zoo. The students will leave the school at 9:00 A.M. and return at 2:30 P.M.
Please sign the permission paper. Return it along with the money to your children's teacher by Monday, May 2. Both the permission paper and the money should be in an envelope with your child's name written on the outside.
In the fall of 1985, I was holding a dream to Howard University, so that one day I could sit on a Supreme Court bench somewhere and make some just sentence.
Twenty-one years later, I am still a dreamer and be with quite a different experience to go through.
My grandma developed cancer, so I made the choice to leave the college to care for her. It meant that school and my personal dream would have to wait.
Then I got married with another dream. In 1999, we adopted (收养)our first son. To lay eyes on him was fantastic. A year later came our second adopted boy. Then followed son No. 3.In 2003, I gave birth to another boy.
You can imagine how busy I became, raising four boys under the age of 8 .Our home was a complete zoo—a joyous zoo. As a result, I never did make it back to college full-time. But I never gave up on the dream either. I had only one choice: to find a way. That meant talking as few as one class each term.
The hardest part was feeling guilty about the time I spent away from the boys. They often wanted me to stay home with them. There certainly were times I wanted to quit, but I knew I should set an example for them to follow through the rest of their lives.
In 2007, I graduated from the University of North Carolina. It took me over 21 years to get my college degree and finally become a judge!
I am not special, just single-minded. It always struck me that when you're looking at a big challenge from the outside it looks huge, but when you're in the midst of it, it just seems normal. Everything you want won't arrive in your life on one day. It's a process. Remember: little steps add up to big dreams.
Tell your car to make a phone call without holding the phone. Tell your car to send an e -mail without touching the computer or even tell your car to send a call for help. Sound like some-thing from a science fiction movie. Well, thanks to a new" talking car", this is soon to become reality.
Road Track, the Israeli producer of Chevrolet, has built a computer platform called Chevy Star. It offers the driver a wide range of things you can get with your voice.
It uses a box the size of a mobile phone attached to the rear-view mirror. The driver can use it to be in touch with Road Track's Offices. Many operators work round the clock so as to answer the phone and the needs of drivers.
To get into the car, the driver has to say a secret code, such as "Open Sesame", for the doors to open and the engine to start. Upon entering the car, the driver has three buttons: one for emergencies, another for telephone calls and a third for practical information.
When the driver presses the emergency button, the operator calls the car to ask if there is a problem. If the driver is lost, the operator can use a map to help the driver find his or her way.
"It depends 100 percent on the voice, so you don't need to take your eyes of the road or hands off the wheel to use it. You just speak to the operator and then it will give you instructions, "said Danny Laguna of Chevrolet.
The operator also alerted when the driver hits your brake too hard. And if operators find a problem anywhere on the car, they warn the driver straight away. Need to make a phone call? Just press the button and read out the number to dial. E-mail can also be dictated. The driver also has many practical things to choose from; the weather, the latest world or local news, what's on a the cinema or theatre.
From video games and museums to medical training, virtual reality (VR) has been changing our lives for the better. However, this amazing new technology has a so-far unsolvable shortcoming: motion sickness. "With modern VR systems, the possibility of motion sickness after only 15 minutes is anywhere from 40 to 70 percent." Thomas Stoffregen, a researcher told ABC News. Indeed, some VR applications have a user-sickness rate of nearly 100 percent!
When caused by VR, this sickness is called cybersickness. It's probably caused by sensory conflict, explains Stoffregen. When you are wearing a VR device, your body's motion sensors cannot match the information received by your eyes. For example, when we wear a VR headset and ride a virtual roller-coaster, we think we are going up and down, but our bodies stay still. It leads to confusion of balance and spatial orientation. Sickness is our bodies' natural response to this confusion. Adding to this problem, Stoffregen says, "Women are more likely to feel sick from the VR experience than men."
According to a study by Bas Rokers, a scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, one reason could be the headsets. To work properly, VR headsets must match up with your pupil distance. Since they are designed larger than the average PD, not everyone gets the best experience.
Rokers found that when the headset PD is too large, users experience greater discomfort. Based on his studies, about 90 percent of women have a shorter PD than the headset is designed for. In comparison, only 5 percent of men had this problem. ABC News says that cybersickness presents a "serious barrier" to widespread use of VR technologies. However, people believe it will become comfortable and easy to use and that it can play a great role in our lives.
Your mind is very powerful. Yet, if you're like most people, you probably spend very little time reflecting on the way you think. After all, who thinks about thinking?
If you draw wrong conclusions about who you are and what you're able to do, you'll limit your potential.
Your thoughts leads to self-perpetuating (自我持续的) cycles. So if you think you're failure, you'll feel like a failure. Then, you'll act like a failure, which reinforces (强化) your belief that you must be a failure.
I see this happen all the time in my therapy office. Someone will come in saying, "I'm just not good enough to advance in my career." That assumption leads her to feel discouraged and causes her to put in less effort.
Once you draw a conclusion about yourself, you're likely to do two things; look for evidence that reinforces your belief and discount (低估) anything that runs contrary to your belief. Someone who develops the belief that he's a failure, for example, will view each mistake as proof that he's not good enough. Consider for a minuet that it might not be your lack of talent or skills that are holding you back. Instead, it might be your beliefs that keep you from performing at your peak.
That's not to say positive thoughts have magical powers. But optimistic thoughts lead to productive behavior, which increases your chances of a successful result.
A. When he succeeds, he'll think it is due to luck.
B. That lack of effort stops her from getting promoted.
C. Being more positive can lead to better results.
D. With conscious effort, you can learn to think more positively.
E. However, the way you look at yourself becomes your reality.
F. Once that belief gets deeply rooted in his mind, he will suffer a lot.
G. What you think has a direct impact on how you feel and how you behave.
Anger is the most destructive (破坏性的) emotion. When you are 1, you make hurried decisions that you will probably regret. You will also regret careless language2 without thought. What can be done to control anger and prevent it ruining our lives? Here are five ways that you can fight the cause of anger.
Firstly, you need to change your attitude to the way the world 3. You have to admit that sometimes things do go wrong and that people are always lovely. Try to 4 that 5 people do behave in ways that will make you both frustrated and angry. Secondly, don't regard anger as a bad emotion. There are occasions6anger can be directed in such a way as to achieve great things. Thirdly, it is beneficial to stop trying to manage your anger. A good way of7 anger is to identify (识别) the root cause. Taking 8steps towards solving the underlying (根本的) problem will help you overcome feelings of anger. Fourthly, reacting angrily is a hard habit to break. But it is a habit, and habits can be 9. You need to learn not to respond at all. This way, your anger will not get the emotional 10 it needs to survive. Fifthly, don't take the easy way when you get angry. You might say you feel better after an angry outburst,11that is just the after-effect of the adrenalin (肾上腺素) your body released while you were angry. If so, it is much harder to stay calm, to walk away from conflict (冲突), or to take a deep breath and act 12. That, however, is 13 you must do if you are to stop anger from becoming your master.
14, you must recognize that anger is 15 you can control. Make changes to your lifestyle and attitudes, and you will find that you will turn angry much less often, if at all.
China has once again showed its ability to change the world with its "four great new (invent)" — high-speed rail, electronic payment, shared bicycles, and online shopping.
China's new-generation high-speed train, the Fuxing Hao, can travel at a speed of 350km/h, is now one of the (fast) trains in the world. Besides high-speed rail, China (improve) people's lives in many other innovative (创新的) ways over the last ten years.
Bike sharing, for example, is not new itself. But China has made much more convenient and popular both in China and overseas. The leading Chinese biking-sharing companies Mobike and Ofo are now operating in foreign countries such as Singapore and Britain.
And back in China, (ride) a shared bike, you can stop to buy and eat whatever you want (simple) with a tap on your phone. You could easily pay with your smart phone by (scan) the seller's QR code. Cashless payment has grown into choice for Chinese people — even a pancake seller is using Alipay.
Besides, the four innovative ways of life are most appealing to youths from 20 countries taking part the Belt and Road Initiative, and they wish their countries would emulate (效仿) China in terms of technological achievements.
