The story of a 92-year-old book lover in a village of Chongqing has touched many recently, Sun Shiquan has collected more than 7,000 books over the past years and has offered a free local library to people there for years.
He was born in Pipa Village in Xiuqi Town of Chongqing's Chengkou County. Being a bookworm as a child, he read all kinds of ancient books including the Four Books and the Five Classics. In the 1950s, he became one of only a handful of local college graduates and later served as a middle school teacher in the county.
He started to collect books in 1983 and gradually built a collection of many kinds over more than 40 years. Among his holdings is a precious set known as the Si Ku Quan Shu, dating back to Qing Dynasty. It is one of the only seven copies in the country.
Wearing glasses, Sun reads for more than three hours every day. Now he has finished reading most of his collections. Speaking of her father, Sun Ziyu, said, "My father has a habit of making notes on each book. He makes a mark whenever he stops reading so that he can carry on reading from where he left off."
Village official Liu Jiao said, "Many children in the village love to visit Sun and listen to his stories." She said the elderly man has earned respect from the whole village. People call him "Teacher Sun" and children call him "great-grandfather".
Sun Ziyu said her father also writes poems and prose(散文) in his spare time and enjoys reading his works to the family. She said under her father's influence, family members take the time to read together and exchange views. "That's their favorite part," she said.
"My father has loved reading for a lifetime," Sun Ziyu said. "Reading is his meat and drink."
Most people think that regular (有规律的) exercise does health wonders for people, but what exactly are its health benefits (益处)?
To start with, research suggests regular exercise can help make people's body strong. It helps cut down on the number of different diseases people face each year. Regular exercise throughout the year helps the working quality of people's heart become better and lower blood pressure. During exercise, people's heart must work harder so that it can make blood go throughout the body. This extra effort makes it grow stronger over the long term. At the same time, as little as 30 minutes per day can help to lower blood pressure. It helps move away things that are all linked to having high blood pressure.
Exercise has a good effect on people's mind and spirit too. If you are suffering from stress and sadness, regular gentle exercise is one way to improve your full sense of happiness. The way that exercise improves people's mental state is by moving away the bad effect of stress that swims into their bodies, helping them find deep calm.
Some studies even show that exercise keeps people's skin fit. Exercise helps keep skin cells alive and healthy by increasing blood flow. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products. You can think of it just like cleaning your skin from the inside.
However, we should know that when suffering from an illness, try not to finish all your plan for exercise. The body needs time to recover. Strong exercise can be harmful to the immune system (免疫系统) when it is already under pressure. Instead, take a gentle walk when falling ill to help recovery.
So, now you know the benefits of exercise and how to do it properly. What are you waiting for?
Do you use Facebook, MySpace or Twitter? If so, then you are part of a social network. Social networking sites allow us to see our social connections.
When you create a profile (a description of somebody that gives useful information) on a social networking site, you open up a number of possible social connections. You can look up old friends, make new friends, and share music, photos and videos with them. You can also join groups according to your interests or hobbies, favorite TV shows or music.
Setting up a social networking account is simple. You just create and post a personal profile. For this you need a login name, password, and an e-mail account. Then you add some personal information such as name, age, sex, location, interests, etc. You can also add a photo of yourself. You can control who sees your profile. The next step is to look for new ones, and add them to your network. Then you can search your friends' connections for anyone else you'd like to add to your network.
Different social networking sites allow people to communicate in different ways. There are sites that allow you to enlarge your personal community such as Facebook. Then there are ones that include media sharing, such as YouTube, where members upload and look at other people's pictures and videos. There are also ones that specialize in sharing music, such as Last FM, and finally, ones that allow bloggers to form online communities, such as Live Journal. The latest trend (趋势) in social networking is to create your own independent social network. Companies do this to make their products sell well and people do it to create their own communities.
I'm often asked how to study English effectively. I think this means getting the most out of your study time, and that means variety.
Study Every Day
It's important to study English every day. However, don't exaggerate (夸张)! This habit of studying English every day will help keep English in your brain fresh.
A Little Grammar, a Little Listening, a Little Reading, and a Little Writing
Study a little grammar, then do a short listening exercise, and then read an article on the same topic. Don't do too much; twenty minutes on three different types of exercises is plenty!
Give yourself one grammar goal when reading a new article or watching a new video. For example, try to write down each example of a form you are studying such as the present perfect. Use colored pens to highlight (使……突出) forms that you are studying.
Use Different Learning Methods
Don't just use one way to study English. Use many kinds of methods which will make all the parts of your brain help you. All of these methods together help with your learning.
Find Some Friends
You can practice the exercises together, have conversations together (in English) , and, as you study English together, help each other with exercises you may not understand.
A. Forget Grammar B. Review Grammar as You Watch or Read C. Here are some simple exercises to help you warm up D. Here are some basic ideas to help you as you study English E. Study for thirty minutes every day instead of two hours once a week. F. Make sure that you study a number of areas rather than focusing on just one G. My name is Marceen Farsakian. As a first grade teacher, I try to1myself around kind and caring people. I'm happy to teach young children. To me,2the social and emotional needs of a child is just as important, if not more important than teaching knowledge. Students seem to grow in all areas3a safe, positive, and inspiring environment is provided for them.
At the beginning of each school year, I set a goal for4: get organized, try new strategies for classroom management, focus on the good, etc. One year I remembered telling myself I would focus on the5of kindness. I would be6to my students, parents, staff members and myself. That year7being one of my most8years as a classroom teacher, but I grew greatly as a human. Being kind did make a9. Kindness spreads quickly.
Teaching kindness creates an environment of mutual (相互的) care and respect. Students become devoted to their school. They are10in the fact that they belong there and that their being there matters. I believe that when students feel secure, trusted, and respected, then they will take risks, and take ownership in their actions, and they will have11in all areas. Sharing the teaching of kindness to children has taken me on a beautiful new12. I started a Kind Kids Club in my class and over the last four years it has13into a school-wide program. Our kind kids come to life when they are14an act of kindness. Their smiles are magical.
My kind kids inspire me every day. I am grateful and15blessed to be able to do what I do! Kindness has changed my world, and let it change yours!
Auld Lang Syne
Friendship is one of life's greatest gifts, and it (value) in both Eastern and Western cultures. One of the most famous sayings about friendship in China can be found in the words of Confucius: "Isn't it a joy when friends visit from faraway places?"
In the UK, there is an (equal) famous poem about friendship. It reminds people (remember) and value old friendships, as they look to the years ahead. That poem is Auld Lang Syne. "Auld Lang Syne" is Scots and translates word for word as "old long since", (mean) "days gone by".
The poem was written by the great Scottish poet Robert Burns. After listening to "an old man's singing", Burns wrote down the words and added a few lines of his own. The poem was printed in 1796, just after Burns' (die). It was given a new tune, and over the years became the song that is so familiar to us today.
Joyful at the same time a bit sad, Auld Lang Syne has featured in many films, including Waterloo Bridge, the film made the song widely known to Chinese audiences.
Today, Auld Lang Syne has been translated into many different languages, and is one of the world's best-loved songs. It's played parties, celebrations, festivals, and even at some shopping centers at closing time. Whatever language or occasion, it has become symbol of friendship and shared experience— we can sing it or not.

The school picnic day was on Sunday, and on Saturday morning I decided to ask Mum some questions. As soon as Mum took the last bite of her toast, I decided I couldn't wait for her any longer and asked," Mum, where is Italy?"
My mum pushed up her glasses and looked at me with her head to one side. Then she said," Italy is an European country which is very far away from here, my love. Why do you want to know that?"
I shrugged (耸肩)," That's where Mike, the new boy in our class is from."
She nodded and invited me to go to fetch the geography book. The book was big and Mum always kept the very big books on the bottom shelf of our bookcase. I watched as Mum flipped to the index and then to a page near the middle." Here we go," she said, turning the map around to show me. I let my finger meet hers where it said the word "Italy" in capital letters.
According to the introduction to the country on the page, Mum helped me know more about the country.
"You know, Mum, Mike's parents are extremely busy working in the downtown. He seldom eats regularly let alone (更不用说) have his native foods. I really want him to be very happy for his first picnic with us…"
I paused and observed Mum, worried that Mum would think that it was silly and maybe a waste of money buying food only to give it away. But she didn't. Instead, she said, "I think that's a brilliant idea! Go and get ready, and we'll head out on a big shopping."
