When I worked in England, I had a mealin an expensive restaurant. I saw a young couple come in with a small boy.
They only1 piece of the cheapest beefsteak. "Sir, Madam, anything else? One piece is not enough for 2of you!" The waiter said.
The dad, a little embarrassed(尴尬的). He said to 3waiter, "Thanks. It's enough. Wejust want to bring the guy to have beef steak, and we have finished supper."
I watched4for a while. Then I found that the parents not only took the boy tohave beef steak, but also regarded(把……视为) it as a process of learning. The parents taught the kid5 to use a knife and fork andtold him some table manners.
I'd like 6 good friends with the family. Then I walked over to them and asked really7, "May I treat each of you to a cup of coffee?" They accepted my coffee with a smile on their faces. I sat down at their table andwe began to chat. "To be honest, we are very poor, so we can't afford any expensive food at all. However, we have every confidence in our boy. 8 helives in a poor family, I believe he will achieve great success in the future. That's why we teach him the good table manners now," said the little 9 father. "We hope our kidcan be a person who respects(尊重) himself and others."After that, I believe that the family won't be poor for a long time!
We became friends and got on well 10each other. After wards, the kid made great progress and succeeded. And I have the honor to drink a cup ofcoffee from him, especially in the most expensive restaurant in England.
Once there was a beautiful house by a river. Everyone wanted to go into it, but there was a big lock (锁头) on the door.
One day, a stick (木棍) came. He thought, "I'm strong enough to open the door."He hit the lock, but the lock was still there.
A few minutes later, a key arrived and she wanted to go into the house, too. "You aren't strong enough to open it," the stick laughed at her. The key said nothing and went into the lock. Soon the door opened.
The stick looked at the key for a few minutes. Then he asked, "Why can you open the lock so easily?"
The key smiled,"Because I know the lock's heart very well."
Our life is just like this. When you want to do something, think about it carefully, and don't do something rude. And if you want to make friends, you should also know others' hearts first.

You may have noticed that the world's population is not evenly distributed (分布) around our planet. There are some countries where people seem to be living nearly on top of each other because conditions are over crowded. Then there are others whereit seems that hardly anybody lives. What influences this unequal distributionof people? There are specific advantages and disadvantages of living in acertain area.
The two main factors that influencepeople's choice of location are climate and resources. Climate is the usual weather conditions in aregion. Areas that have bad weather are generally less deal as places to livein. The north and south poles at the top and bottom of the world may be beautiful in their rugged, natural way, but the disadvantage of the bitterly cold and windy conditions usually keeps people away. When it comes to climate, warm conditions and a normal amount of rainfall are advantage that attract people.
Natural resources are things that weget from nature and that help us survive. Each region offers different resources, and therefore attracts different groups of people. People who enjoy the beach can make their living by catching and selling the ocean's many fishand other sea creatures. Those who prefer farming can take advantage of rich soil (土壤) in valleys near rivers. Some people are willing to accept the disadvantages of the terrible conditions of deserts or mountains in order to take advantage of the resources like oil or woods.
Did you see snow in your home town lastwinter? Did you feel it was warmer than before? "There have been 21 warmwinters in China since 1986," said scientists. They also said that in thepast 100 years, as the global (全球的) temperatures wentup by 0.74 ℃, the temperature in North China has gone up by 1.4 ℃ in only 50years.
China needs to take quick action to cutcarbon dioxide emission (排放), because it's themain reason for global warming. We plan to cut energy use by 20% and pollution emission by 10% in the 11th Five-Year Plan.
Can you slow global warming? Sure! Youand your family can take steps to cut the amount of carbon dioxide that is sentout into the air.
Here are some pieces of advice to help you save the earth. Wear usedclothes. Wearing your brother's, sister's or dad's old T-shirts means you savethe energy.
Ride on the bus. Taking a bus saves alot of oil every year.
Open the window. Don't use the airconditioner (空调), and let some fresh air in.
When you have to use it, set the temperaturehigher in summer and lower in winter to save energy.
Make small changes in your daily life.Don't use paper cups, bags and boxes.
It's time for all of us to do somethingto save the earth.
