Popular music in America is what every student likes. Students carry small radios with earphones and listen to music before class, after class, and at lunch. Students with cars buy large speakers and play the music loudly as they drive on the street.
Adult drivers listen to music on the car radio as they drive to work. They also listen to the news about sports, the weather, and the life of American people. Most of the radio programmes are music.
Pop or popular music singers make much money. They make a CD or tape which radio stations use in many places. Once the popular singer is heard all over the country, young people will buy his or her tapes. Some of the money from these tapes comes to the singer. Wherever the singer goes，all the young people want to meet him or her. Now the singer has become a national star.
There are other kinds of music that are important to Americans. One is called folk music. It tells stories about the common life of Americans. Another is called western or country music. This was started by cowboys who would sing at night to the cows they were watching. Today any music about country life and the love between a country boy and his girl is called western or country music.
One morning Oral Lee Brown stopped by a local store to make her usual shopping. A little girl came up to her, asking for 25 cents. Because all she had was a $5 bill(纸币), Brown invited the little girl to go with her to the store. Inside the store, Brown told the little girl she could pick out anything she wanted.
Instead of choosing candy or a toy, which would have been the first choice for most kids, the little girl immediately ran for a bag of bread. And she shyly thanked Brown and quickly disappeared around the comer.
That night, Brown couldn't sleep, deciding that she had to find the little girl to help her. She went to the school the girl would most likely attend, but she never found her. Instead, she found many other children, in less than ideal(理想的) conditions. Brown decided to "adopt (领养)" a class of 23 East Oakland, California, first-graders. She told them, "Stay in school, and I'll send you to college. " To achieve this goal, Brown began saving money, putting aside $10000 per year from her $45000 salary.
Starting that day, Brown became a benefactor, mentor(导师) and second mother to those 23 first-graders, beginning with regular visits, Saturday tutorials and parent meetings. She tracked each child's attendance and grades, bought them Christmas gifts and bought supplies. Nineteen of the students in that first class attended college, and three others went into trade schools. Those students all graduated from college in 2003 and 2004.
Brown is now on her sixth class of "adopted" students. In total, more than 125 young people have gained her help. Some of these students—now in college—report that if it hadn't been for Brown, they would never have been given an opportunity for this kind of education.
The time to form a new habit depends on the person, the habit itself, the environment, and the motivation. Generally speaking, 60 days is good enough for getting a new habit formed, but some habits could take twice as long. Some habits will never be formed no matter how much time passes. Even a habit that takes months or years to form can still be broken eventually.
Becoming an early riser was really challenging. I struggled with this habit for years to manage to form it. I do break this habit now and then, usually by choice to experience something different for a while. In the past 90 days, I have stayed in bed past 5 am perhaps only two or three times. It takes me less than a week to be back with it. Remembering the benefits surely helps.
In my 20s I was too impatient with many habits. If I couldn't get something working in a few weeks, I'd often drop it and try something else. Now that I'm in my late 40s, I have learned to think in a more practical way. I know that even if it takes many months or years to form a new habit, I am sure the habit could bring advantages for many years. It doesn't take me too long to think of carrying out the new habit, I just get it started. When you think about a habit that you have stuck to for many years, who cares if it took a few weeks or six months to form it?
Don't worry so much about how long it takes to form a habit. Instead, consider which habits could improve the quality of your life so that they are worthy of six months to get them formed. When a habit forms at last, it feels uncomfortable not to do it, and your day doesn't feel complete without it.
Humans' Greatest Achievements
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, but the human race has lived on it for just 200,000 years. In that short time, we have achieved some amazing things.
The list is almost endless. The invention of the airplane has changed our lives. The discovery of antibiotics (抗生素) has saved the lives of millions of people. Can you imagine living without electricity? What about the printing press (印刷术)? Without the printing press, you wouldn't be reading this. In the last 50 years, there have been great achievements in communication, such as radio, TV, computers, the Internet, and smartphones (智能手机).
What about the arts? The arts have brought pleasure to many people, but are the Beatles and Bach more important than antibiotics?
Finally, we must not forget humans' early achievements. We can't imagine modern life without cooked food and cars.
What are humans' greatest achievements? To answer the question, we need to decide what we mean by "great". Or is it just something that makes us say "Wow," like the Great Wall? What do you think?

The Xi'an City Wall is the most complete city wall that has survived China's long history. It(build) originally to protect the city the Tang dynasty and has now been completely restored(修复). It is possible (walk) or bike the entire 14 kilometers.
We accessed the wall through the South Gate. The wall is 12 meters high and from here you can see streams of people moving inside and outside the City Wall.
After (spend) some time looking at all the defensive equipment at the wall, we decided it was time for some action and wha(good) than to ride on a piece of history!
We(hire) our bikes from the rental place at the South Gate. My bike was old and shak67 did the job. It took us about 3 hours to go all way around the Xi'an City Wall. Supposedly you can do it in two hours, but we stopped at the different gates and (watchtower) to take pictures or just to watch the local people going about their (day) routines.

I've had many dreams since I was a child. Now my dream is to opens a cafe. Though it may appear simple, it required a lot of ideas and efforts. What I want is not just an ordinarily cafe but a very special one. I want my cafe have a special theme such as like "Tang Dynasty".
