He gave a single3to each person in the room. Each person was asked to write his or her name on the balloon with a black marker. Then, all of the balloons were4 and moved to another room.
The 50 people were then let into the room and told to find the balloon that had5names written on it. Everyone rushed around,6their balloon here and there. People were bumping into and tripping (绊倒) over each other.
But7 after five minutes of searching, no one could find their own balloon.
8seeing this, the speaker asked each person to collect a balloon and try to find the person whose name was written on it. Everyone started talking to each other and9 each other for their names. Within minutes, everyone had his or her own balloon. "Can you see what happened?" the speaker said. "The balloons are like the happiness we want in our own lives. Everyone is busy looking for their own happiness, not caring what happens to others, but sometimes the best10to find happiness is to help others. Help them find happiness and you can find your own."

When talking about festivals in St. Petersburg, Russia, we have to mention Scarlet Sails (红帆节).
Generally, Scarlet Sails is celebrated in late June to congratulate high school graduates on the beginning of their new life journey as adults. Starting in 1968, the idea of the festival came from Alexander Grin's Scarlet Sails — a novel about love, dreams and hope. The first Scarlet Sails was attended by around 25, 000 school graduates and became a hit. Since then, it has become more and more popular. It attracts visitors from all over the world every year.
The celebrations of the festival start in the evening and mainly include two parts.
The big concert in Dvortsovaya Square is only for school graduates with an invitation. However, considering its popularity, there is usually another stage on Vasilievsky Island where everyone can enjoy the concert.
When the concert is over, people go to the Neva River for a light and water show. They can watch it along the banks or on the bridges. Fireworks, beautiful music and water shows last for about 30 minutes.
The festival reaches its highest point as a big ship with scarlet sails appears and makes its way across the river. It synchronizes its movements with the music and the other parts of the show. That means the crew (船员) must make sure the ship reaches every place on the exact second as it is planned. Visitors are often advised to come early to find a good position to enjoy the amazing beauty of everything!
① An amazing show starts on the Neva River.
② A big ship with scarlet sails crosses the Neva River

At 5, 895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. It's also the world's tallest mountain that is not part of a mountain range (山脉). The mountain is part of Kilimanjaro National Park in the northeast of Tanzania. Around 50, 000 people visit the park each year. Most of them — about 35,000 every year — are trying to climb the mountain.
But climbing such a tall, glacier-covered (冰川覆盖的) mountain isn't easy. About one-third of the people who try to climb it are forced to give up. Tanzania's information minister said, "In the past, it was a bit dangerous for visitors without the Internet."
The new Internet service should make it easier for climbers to reach the top of the mountain. They can use the Internet to check maps and find their way. And they can also use the Internet to call for help if they need it.
Now, the new service reaches more than halfway up the mountain. The government says that by the end of the year, climbers will be able to get the Internet even at the very top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The government adds that safety is the main reason for setting up the Internet service on the mountain. At the same time, having people post pictures and videos on social media as they climb Mount Kilimanjaro would certainly make the mountain even more popular with tourists.
Some people, however, aren't happy with the government's decision. The reason is that, according to a study in 2020, only about 83% of people in Tanzania could get cell phone service.
Did you know the colour of the paint on the outside of a building could influence the temperature inside? Scientists have created the whitest paint in the world. They say the paint is so white that it could finally reduce or even avoid the need for air conditioners (空调). The paint made it in the 2022 edition of Guinness World Records as the whitest ever made.
It turns out that breaking a world record wasn't their goal; controlling global
warming was.
"When we started this project about 7 years ago, we had saving energy and fighting climate change in mind," said Xiulin Ruan, a professor at the university. The idea was to make a kind of paint that would reflect sunlight away from a building. The paint reflects 98. 1% of sunlight while also giving out heat. Because the paint takes in less heat from the sun than it gives out, a surface(表面)with this paint is cooled below the nearby temperature without using power.
Using this new paint is more powerful than the air conditioners.
Two features make this paint super-white. One of this is that the paint has a special chemical called barium sulfate. This chemical is also used in photo paper. Now, the scientists are going to work with a company to put this super-white paint on the market.
① reflect sunlight away ② save energy
③ give out heat ④ speed global warming

The hot pot is one of the most popular meals in China. The hot pot used to be preferred in winter, but recently it has been appearing on tables all year round.
The hot pot has delicious taste. There are two other important reasons for the Chinese to like the hot pot. The first one is that the hot pot is considered a great way to make new friends. People gather round the pot, chatting, eating, drinking and having fun. The other is that the hot pot is a "healthy meal". Eating the hot pot can warm the body and improve circulation (血液循环) in winter.
There are several kinds of hot pots in China with different soup. Two of the most popular hot pots are Sichuan hot pot and Beijing mutton hot pot.
Sichuan hot pot is famous for its numbing and spicy (又麻又辣的) taste, Because of Sichuan pepper— and other spicy things like chili, makes it different from other hot pots. Beijing mutton hot pot is regarded as the representative of the northern China hot pots. Mutton is its main part, and the soup is made from lamb bones.
When you eat a hot pot in a restaurant, generally, there are two types of soup bases: spicy and clear. A clear soup base has a quite mild (温和的) taste, which is made from sea food or meat bones. A spicy soup base usually has Sichuan pepper, which is spicy and salty.
If you have a mixed group with some who don't eat spicy food, there is a special pot with a divider(间隔)in the middle between the spicy and clear soup, which is called a double-flavor hot pot (鸳鸯锅).
