Once upon a time, there lived two brothers named Jacob and William in Germany. They liked to listen to old stories and then write them down. Then they had enough stories to make a book. You can guess the name of their book! It is Grimm's Fairy Tales.

The story of this little book began when the brothers were still in school. And it started with a good teacher. This teacher liked to find out how things happened. Soon the two brothers were doing the same thing. They asked questions and then looked for answers to them.

Among the questions the brothers asked, "Who made up the old fairy tales? Who first told about Cinderella? Who made up the story of Snow White and the story of Sleeping Beauty?"

They found that no one knew the answers to such questions. The tales were made up in very early times. Most of them were made up in days before people knew how to write. People told the stories to one another and to their children. But only a few old people still remembered them.

"When these old people die, the stories will die with them," said the brothers. "We must write down all the stories we can find."

Jacob and William hunted for stories for five years. At last they had 89 tales written. Just before Christmas, in 1812, the first book was published. People loved the book! They asked for more fairy stories. So the two brothers put tales into two more books. In all, they collected 210stories to put into their books.

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap(代沟).

Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can't express yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.

Try to reach a compromise(和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.

Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.

Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

    1. (1) According to the passage, __________have a communication problem.
A . Parents and other people B . Only school kids and their parents C . Teachers and their students D . Parents and children of all ages
    2. (2) How many pieces of advice does the writer give us to bridge the generation gap?
      A . five. B . four. C . three. D . two.
    3. (3) The underlined phrase "cool off" in the passage means " ________"?
A . to make yourself happy B . to get yourself quiet and relaxed C . to have a good rest D . to hide yourself quickly
    4. (4) The best title of the passage is ________
A . How to Bridge the Generation Gap B . How to Deal with Family Problems C . How to Be Good Parents D . How to Be a Good Child

That's a big deal. I think this is they don't often have communication with each other. Parents now often. spend more time their jobs, so they don't have much time (stay)with their children. As time goes by, they, both feel that they don't have same things to talk about. This is very typical in many families. And it can (cause) many other problems. In my opinion, parents should spend much time together with the children, get to know the children and get on well with (they). And for children, show your feelings to your parents. They are the people who love you. So tell them you like. In this way, you would have better development
