Kelly's favourite subject is PE. But she had a hard time in PE class. She was not good at jumping very far, she had trouble1a ball, and she couldn't run really fast. Sometimes, some kids laughed at her. But2does Kelly love PE class?
The reason is that her teacher Mr Burns3 tells her to try her best. Although she had to stop to have a rest when she only ran for a few4, Mr Burns wasn't angry. He said excitedly, "Good job! Next time you will be able to go a little longer." Mr Burns even put a small box on the floor, 5Kelly would be able to practice jumping over it.
That night when Kelly finished dinner, she put three boxes and began practicing jumping over6. She made it! Kelly thought to herself, "Tomorrow I will be able to jump over those boxes in7class."
There was a relay race(接力赛) on Tuesday. Kelly was afraid that she would not be able to run very8. When Kelly ran, she heard the kids shouting, "Go Kelly! You can do it!" That was all she wanted to hear. Kelly ran fast. She. 9first! The kids cheered for her. Kelly felt so 10"Thank you, Mr Burns, " said Kelly. "Kelly, you ran in the race, not me. ""Yes, but you always said I could do it."
A mouse was surprised to discover that the farmer and his wife had a mousetrap(老鼠夹) in the house. It ran to warn everyone, "There is a mousetrap in the house!"
A hen raised his head and said, "Mr. Mouse, this mousetrap is only for you. 1 won't be worried about it. "The mouse turned to a pig, "I am sorry, Mr. Mouse, but the mousetrap has nothing to do with me, either!" the pig said. Then the mouse turned to a cow, "It sounds like you have a problem, not me. "the cow said. The mouse returned to the house with head down and it was very sad because no one would help.
That night the farmer's wife heard a loud sound and she rushed to see what was caught.
In the darkness she could not see that it was a snake. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The wife caught a bad fever and the farmer thought the best way to treat a fever was chicken soup. So the farmer killed the hen for the soup. The wife got worse and her friends came to visit her. The farmer had to kill the pig to treat them. But the wife didn't get better and died. Her friends came and the farmer had to kill the cow to feed all of them!
So remember when any one of us is in trouble, we may all be in trouble.
Zongzi is not just a food with rice and other delicious materials in it, but one of the symbols of the Dragon Boat Festival in China.
The festival is on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is to remember the famous poet Qu Yuan in Chinese history. Zongzi, or rice dumpling, also shows the tradition of home cooking in different places.
There are different kinds of zongzi. Here are just several examples.
The most famous-Jiaxing zongzi
Jiaxing zongzi, named after the city Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province, is the most famous food during the Dragon Boat Festival thanks to Wufangzhai, the largest zongzi company here. More than 6, 000, 000Wufangzhai zongzi are on sale in stores across the country during the festival. Jiaxing also has the first and the only museum of zongzi.
The oldest-Xi'an zongzi
The cold honey zongzi has the longest history in Xi'an, a city in central China. Made with rice, cold honey zongzi without fillings(馅)is a great food for the hot summer.
The largest-Nanning zongzi
Each Nanning zongzi is about one kilogram. It is also called "pillow(枕头) zong" because of its large size and the middle part with fillings a little higher than two sides. In Guangxi, people once made the largest zongzi with 50 kilograms of rice and meat.
The smallest-Shanghai zongzi
The smallest zongzi is in Shanghai City. It is just right for one bite(咬). Some people like to enjoy it with a cup of Chinese tea.
Wang Yani was born in 1975. Even as a baby she loved to draw. Her father was an artist. Yani wanted to be like him. So she tried to stand like her father as he painted, which made him laugh.
One day, Yani painted lines on her father's painting. He got angry. At that time she was only two and a half years old. She cried and said, "l want to paint like you!" Her father looked at her without saying anything. He clearly remembered his childhood. He also wanted to draw and paint. But his parents didn't understand. They just got angry. He didn't want to see the same thing happen to his daughter. So he decided to help her.
With her father's help, Yani soon made progress. Her lines became flowers, trees, and animals. Her father took her to parks and zoos to get ideas for her paintings. By the end of six, Yani had made over4000 works. Her paintings were very special. People loved her works. When she was eight, one of her paintings was made into a Chinese stamp.
Yani became famous when she was young. Her works were shown in different countries in Asia, Europe and North America, but her parents never sold her paintings. She is well-known to the world, and art is still a great joy in her life.
As autumn arrives in the United States and Canada, you could see the yearly migration of the monarch butterflies(帝王蝶).
No other butterfly in the world migrates like the monarch butterflies of North America. Every year, they fly to the south because they can't live for long periods in cold weather.
So each autumn around October, the butterflies travel up to 3, 000 kilometers south to spend winter in warmer locations. Some even fly to the mountains of Mexico. There are so many of them that they almost block out the sky. And you can hear their wings beating.
It usually takes the butterflies two months to reach Mexico. After five months of staying, they head back north in the spring.
But not one butterfly finishes the whole round-trip. They lay eggs along the way and die. Three generations(代)of butterflies will live and die during the spring journey alone. The fourth and final generation of the year is born in early autumn and will reach the north. But the butterflies hardly get to rest before starting the long journey south again to Mexico.
The most amazing thing about these butterflies is that they return to the very same trees in Mexico that their great-great-grandparents used to live on the winter before.
However, the population of this colorful butterfly has dropped in recent years. One of the main reasons, experts say, is that farmers have used herbicides(除草剂) on plants. The monarchs lay eggs along the route of their migration. Their larvae(幼虫) live and feed on the plants. But the herbicides can kill them.

China covers large areas and has a great population. Different living always been an interesting topic(话题) in the country. Recently, another difference between southern and northern people became a hot one: the way people shop at markets.
People southern China usually shop for just one or two meals. It is normal for them to buy half of a Chinese cabbage, two and 0. 25 kilograms of beef at a time. However, if a person this in the north, he may be laughed at. Buying enough food for weeks usual in northern China.
In southern China, you can buy a small amount(少量) of fruit for each time, such as an apple or a pear. Shop owners even help you peel(削皮) and cut it so that you can eat it.
Therefore, many northern people will get surprised when they shop at southern markets for the time. But shop owners in the north hardly offer such service to you. And the fruit isinbaskets and boxes.
The difference could be due to(由于) the different weather. Food can be kept for a long time in the north it is usually cold and dry there. Many northern people have the habit of food, especially for the long winter. But the hot and wet weather in the south makes southern people buy just enough food for one meal or one day, or else the food may go bad.
