"A what?" said Mrs. Harris. She was too 3 to believe what she heard.

The Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris D' Lacey
They are some of my favorite books. The stories are so well planned. They usually have a happy beginning, then turn dark and deep, and make us think about our life. I believe if you are interested in stories about animals in danger, you will certainly love them.

One day in 1712, a man called Adam fell asleep in London. When he woke up, it was 300 hundred years later. And that's when he began his special travel.
Adam came out of the building and stopped. What was this place? Strange boxes, made of metal (金属) and glass, moved quickly past him on wheels (轮子),making a loud noise. There were bigger boxes too, big red ones, with 10 or 20 people inside. Sometimes the boxes stopped. There were tall posts with three lights: red, yellow and green. The lights turned on and off, the boxes stopped and started again.
All around him, there were tall buildings. And the people! People everywhere. Many of them stopped and looked at him, then they turned and walked away quickly. An old man shouted to him, "Hey, you! Are you lost? The theater's over there!" Adam walked past windows, big glass windows with women inside, but those women didn't move.
One of the metal boxes on wheels was near him — a black and white box with a blue light on top. A man in blue clothes and a strange hat got out and walked towards him. "Excuse me,Sir," said the man. Adam didn't like him. He turned away and ran.

Most tourists don't go to Candeal,a small city in the east of Brazil. But if they're interested in music, maybe they should.
Carlinhos Brown was a musician who grew up in Candeal. He started a pop group Timbalada in the 1990s. The group had more than a hundred musicians and singers, and most of them were young children from Candeal. They had eight albums (唱片)and toured in different countries.
Forty years ago, Candeal was a very poor place. Carlinhos wanted to do something for the children, so he opened a music school. Hundreds of children between five and twelve years old have learned to play music there. They start by playing music on bottles and boxes. Then they go on to other instruments (乐器). Many of the students at the school become very successful musicians now.
The school began to teach young musicians in 1994, and it's doing it for free. "My musical work started here as a student with Mr. Brown," said Jair Rezende. "I lost both my parents as a boy and he did so much for me,like a second father of mine."
Jair is a teacher himself and he works at the music school for many years. "We're helping the children to stay away from danger and to do good jobs at school," he said.
Now the school is working together with the government (政府)to make Candeal a better place."What's the secret of Candeal?" Carlinhos said,"It's love."

When you plant a seed (种子),does it stay a seed? No! Plants and animals grow and (改变) in their lives. Many plants begin as seeds. When the seed gets (水) and sunlight, it begins to grow. The seed turns into a (小的)plant and grows up. Then the plant makes new seeds. (那些) seeds go through this over and over again,it is called a life cycle (循环).
Animals (也) have life cycles. A bird begins as an egg. And then it grows legs and (手臂)inside. When the egg breaks up,a bird is (出生)and then grows up day by day. After that, the bird lays eggs, so new birds can live even after the mother bird grows old and (死).
A dog's life cycle isn't the (相同的)as a bird's,because a dog does not start out as an egg. The dog keeps growing and (最后)becomes a big dog. Then the dog might have babies to start the life cycle again! Don't you think it is interesting to see the magic world?
Mike had a small fruit stand (摊位)in his summer holidays, it was not open in 2020. Because of COVID-19, people had to stay away from each other.
Mike loved telling jokes (笑话),so his mom (ask) him to have a joke stand. Mike liked that plan. He set up a table and chairs the garden.
Each morning and afternoon, for hour, he waited. Wlien someone came by, Mike (tell) them a few jokes — for free. "I want people to save their (money)," he said, "to use it for things they need,"
Many (visit) shared jokes with him, too. He learned a lot of new jokes that way.
Mike said, "Of all the things, the (good) one about the stand is the people. And I (stay) here before the COVID-19 is over." He could meet with (he) friends in a safe way, and he made new friends too. "People were lonely," he said. "Jokes can make sad people happy."
