On May 18th, 2023, the China-Central Asia Summit (中亚峰会) was held in Xi'an. Many guests from other Asian countries attended this important meeting. President Xi Jinping made a speech on "One Belt, One Road" (一带一路). It has been 10 years since President Xi announced (提出) the initiative (政策). 

The great initiative has offered the chances to do business between countries. It helps products from other countries enter China's market. At the same time, all kinds of products made in China are sold to other countries, too. It leads to a win-win situation. Many countries hope to get stronger and stronger through "The Belt and Road". Besides international trade, China has built plenty of high-speed railways for neighbor countries. The China-Laos Railway (中老铁路) is a typical project of "The Belt and Road." It is a lot more convenient tor Chinese to visit Laos. The high-speed railway runs 1,035 kilometers, from the city of Kunming to Vientiance (万象), the capital of Laos.

"The Belt and Road" is based on (基干) the ancient Silk Road. However, there are differences between them. It focuses on (集中) the Asian, European and African countries, and is also open to all the other counties. It's not only the name of trade roads but also a bridge of culture between China and many other countries. China also works more closely with the countries in languages, science and education. A lot of countries which have joined the team exchange culture freely. There is even a Silk Route Museum (丝绸之路博物馆) in Jiuquan in China. It has over 35,000 objects from all along the Silk Road. 

Over the past 10 years, "The Belt and Road" has made a great progress in economy (经济) development, cultural exchange and quality of life.

Have you ever drunk "the first cup of milk tea in autumn"? Milk tea is enjoyed by most young people. There are so many milk tea shops around every street.  such as bubble milk tea (珍珠奶茶), house milk tea (招牌奶茶) and iced milk tea. But it is also a good idea to make a cup of milk tea by hand at home. Today DIY (Do it Yourself) is very popular with young people. On the one hand, it can give people real experience in doing something and they can express their own ideas by DIY. 

It's time to make iced milk tea. 

→First, prepare things you need, they are milk, black tea, sugar or honey, and some ice.

Mrs Li has two children, Li Xin is her 15-year-old daughter. Li Lei is Li Xin's brother. He's older than Li Xin.

As for Li Lei, he can't wait to grow up, as he can make his own decisions. He always asks a question, "At what age do I really become an adult?" In China, the 18th birthday is a very important event for young people because they can vote (投票) and learn to drive a car, so Mrs Li regards Li Lei's birthday as a most important event. She will have a big birthday party for her son. Li Lei realizes no matter how old he is, becoming an adult is really about learning how to be independent and responsible. 

Every moment to record a meaningful event brings a sense of ceremony and makes our lives colorful.

Volunteering means that someone works to help people without being paid. Volunteers help people who really need help. There are many places where you can see different volunteers.

At school gates, you can see some volunteers with red vests (马甲). Can you guess  they are? They are parent volunteers. When students go  the street, parent volunteers  up a "SLOW" sign to let drivers slow down. In order to become professional traffic volunteers, parents are supposed to learn how to give directions to students and stop them from  soccer on the road.  of these volunteers, students can get to school and go back home safely. Yueyang Daily reports many parents are looking  to being a volunteer. They wish to make an effort to protect students' safety. Another group of "red vests" show up on main roads. They help cleaners pick up dirty paper, plastic bags, glass bottles and so on. They ask the passers-by (路人) not to throw the rubbish everywhere. " you please take away your rubbish?" "Would you mind picking up your cigarette butts (烟头)? ..."  their work seems simple, they still take it seriously. Wherever you go, you can see volunteers in red vests, they have become the most beautiful scenes in our city. 

Some teenagers  their free time in hospitals or old people's homes. They cheer sick kids up or look after old people. In the countryside, some college students play an important role  volunteering. They can provide science and technology help for farmers. Some volunteers work as teachers in village schools. 

A lot of volunteers give their kindness with a helping band. They can make a difference to people in need and the society.

This is a story about Jamyang (将央), a student from Tibet, he is now studying at No. 1 High school of Yueyang. Tibetan New Year (藏历新年) was on March 3rd this year. It was 9:00 a. m. and Jamyang's family were at home. 1. His mother and grandmother were making traditional food to celebrate Tibetan New Year.  His father and uncle were watching New Year's celebrations on TV. Was Jamyang watching TV and enjoying a big meal? No, he was talking on the phone to his elder brother at his host family's. His host family is very nice. 2. 他们尽力让他感到宾至如归           . Jamyang's Han mother (汉族母亲) knew that he missed Tibetan food a lot, so she cooked traditional beef and onion dumplings for him, Jamyang found there were no differences between the dumplings cooked by the two mothers. Jamyang's Han mother has a teenage daughter about Jamyang's age who is really kind. 3. She always talks with Jamyang in Putonghua to help him practice. Jamyang has more chances to express himself, his classmates couldn't believe how quickly his Putonghua has improved. He's very comfortable speaking Putonghua now.
