For what?(为了什么?)
Mr. South got a letter from a friend of his and read it in his study. The head of his office called him and he went to answer. His son Bill went into the room. He began to draw a monkey on the letter. When his father went back, he could not read it any longer(不再). He beat(打)the boy and let him go out. Bill began to watch an old man mending a bike at the turning(转弯处).
"What does your father do?" asked the old man.
"He's a lawyer(律师). "
"Does he usually put others into prison(关进监狱)?"
"No, " answered the boy. "He says he can't do such foolish things(这样的傻事). "
"Do you hope to be a lawyer, too?"
"No. I hope to be a policeman. "
"For what?"
"He beat me this morning. "
Many people like to travel by plane because it is fast, but I don't like it because an airport is usually far from the city.
You have to get there early and wait for hours for the plane to take off and it is often late. You can't open the windows. You can't choose the food. Planes are fast, but they still take hours to go out of the airport and into the city.
I like traveling by train. I think trains are safe. Railway stations are usually in cities. When you are late for a train, you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and open the windows. You can see many interesting things on your way. I know it takes a little more time. I also like cars. You can start your journey when you want to, and you don't need to get to a railway station or a bus stop. Also you can take many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.
Can't decide what you want to be when you grow up? Well, now you can try out one or all your dream jobs in a day, at a theme park called Wannado City (理想城). The best part is you don't have to get any special training or go to school.
Wannado City is located in Florida (佛罗里达州), America. It is a large theme park. In the park, everything is just like the real world except that it is run by kids. The doctors, actors/actresses, teachers and policemen are all under the age of 15. With over 120 jobs to choose from, kids can be almost anything they want to be!
When they go inside the city, each kid gets some money. They can also make more money by getting jobs. In this world, jobs are easy to find and money is easy to make.
After a hard day's "work", kids can take the roller coaster (过山车) and then have dinner.
While kids are being "grown﹣ups", parents can either watch their kids do the jobs, or even play the role of normal people. Can you imagine your dad a traffic ticket? That sure sounds like fun!
(注: wanna do = want to do是口语用法)
