One day Tom was driving along a country (乡下) road. Suddenly a chicken passed his car. He couldn't believe his1 . How could a chicken run faster than a car?
"I am at 80 miles an hour," Tom thought. "It must be a2 . There isn't a chicken in the world that can run that fast. " He drove much faster and tried to see what happened. Soon, he got to a house. A strong3 was standing outside the house and looking down the road.
Tom4 his car, got out and walked up to the man. "I just saw the most5 thing, "he said to him. "A chicken passed me when I was driving at 80 miles an hour. "
"Ah," the man said, "that was one of6 . "
"One of yours! " Tom shouted, "but7 can any chicken nun that fast?"
"Well, it's like his," the man went on. "People around here like to eat chicken legs, so more legs are in8 . Then as a farmer, I decided I would make more money if I could raise chickens with three legs. I tried and I made it. That third leg9 the chickens so fast. "
"That's very interesting," Tom said. "And what do three-legged chickens10 like?"
"I don't know," the farmer said. "Because I am not able to catch one."
Now, a lot of children spend too much time sitting in front of computers. Teachers and parents worry about their health. There is a new kind of camp in China for these Children. It helps them get out of their1 and into the sunshine. The camp is by the2 because the children can do lots of activities on the beach.
The camp3 children to spend more time out on the beach every day. Many of them said they played computer games for4 six hours a day before. A boy said, "It was fun to play on the computer, because I had5 else to do. My friends had no time for me. "
Camp workers take these children to the beach every morning. They need to swim and do other6 activities there before sitting down to have a healthy lunch. When children sit in front of computers all day, they do not have meals at the right time and7 leave their seats. So, camp workers believe that healthy eating and exercise are both important.
Tom loved to play computer games when he was at home. He said, "I thought it was going to be very bad to come to a camp without computers﹣only sports. 8 my parents told me playing on the computer all day was not good for my health. After camping, I found that doing sports is much more 9 than sitting in front of a computer for a whole day. " Many children said they felt much happier 10 of the camp. Many of them will spend less time their computers when they go back home.

We have arrived(到达)in the hot, wet city of Bangkok(曼谷). This is our first trip to Thailand (泰国). We are going to eat something delicious(美味的)for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai(清迈)in the North.
Tuesday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful! The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days.
Friday, March 30th
Our trip to Chiang Mai was long. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life―no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say "hello". Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. We feel good here and hope to be able to come back next year.
The 24th Beijing Winter Olympics(冬季奥运会) and The Winter Paralympics(残奥会) took place in 2022. Do you know what are the mascots(吉祥物) for them? You may know the five "Fuwa" dolls from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. On September 17th, 2019, the two lovely mascots first showed on TV. Now, let's see who they are.
Look at the panda! It looks like an astronaut(宇航员). It wears an ice shell(冰壳) and looks fat, so we call it "Bing Dwen Dwen". White is the colour of ice and snow. "Bing Dwen Dwen" likes ice sports very much and is good at them. That's why it is the mascot of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Do you think the red mascot looks like a lantern(灯笼)? The lantern's name is "Shuey Rhon Rhon". When the Chinese New Year comes, people always make or buy red lanterns. Red is the colour of hope and good luck, so people think their dreams will come true(实现) in the new year. "Shuey Rhon Rhon " can give players hope and help them do well in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Many people in different countries like the two mascots very much, and they show their love for them on the Internet.
On a hot summer afternoon, Mike heard Jim and Jack said they were going for a swim in the river. After school, Mike chatted with them at a neighborhood shop, and knew that they didn't know how to swim but they wanted to have a try. Then he followed them down to the river and asked them not to go in. But they didn't listen to him and jumped into the river. Soon the water took them away.
Without thinking twice, Mike jumped into a nearby boat and then paddled( 划 ) with his own hands to reach the two boys. First, Mike got Jim with one hand and left him lying on the boat. Then, he paddled to Jack and jumped into the water to take him back. He said, "It was hard, but go his arms on one side of the boat just like teachers taught us at school. "
When the policeman got to the river, Mike just took the two boys to the ground. The
policeman thanked him and asked, "Why did you want to save them alone? It's dangerous for a child like you to do so. " Mike said,"To become a lifeguard(救生员) is my dream. But my parents dissent from me. They think I am not strong enough for the job, and it is dangerous to work as a lifeguard. "
At last, the policeman said, "You are a young hero! It's nice of a child to have a big dream. But it is also important to know that one should protect himself first. Next time you should call for our help first. Always tell your teachers or parents when you notice something dangerous may happen, and you shouldn't do anything dangerous alone."
a. The policeman got to the river.
b. The water took Jack and Jim away quickly.
c. Mike used a nearby boat to save the two boys.
d. Mike told Jack and Jim not to jump into the river.
e. Mike followed Jack and Jim after talking with them.
John sat next to me when we were in primary school. He was always too shy(害羞的)(speak) in front of class. So we often saw John stay (独自)at the corner of the classroom. And most of my classmates didn't like to be with him because his hands and shirt (be) always dirty. I tried my to let him know how important it was to be clean,he just could not understand(理解).
One day, our teacher Miss Lee walked up to John. Without saying , she took John to the washroom. Slowly, Miss Lee washed his hands and told him that he should keep(him) clean. She did this every day one month. At last(最后), John understood.
We know everyone (have)bad habits(习惯)or may be weak in some ways in life Some are about things and are about herself or himself. If people around can give a helping hand, things (become) better. Why do we often do wrong about them?
Miss Le's love gives (I)a good example(榜样) to follow when I do my job. I always remember (teach) my students by (展示) them all the right (way) to do things. And the most important of all, I always help them learn to grow up.
Mrs. Hands taught Jill and her sister Gina to care for others. This gave them a great idea. "Let's set up(建立) a new club at school called 'The Care Club!" Gina said. Jill thought it was a wonderful idea. Every night they planned what they would do the next day.
One day they helped a little girl at their school learn to read. At the weekend they helped walk a neighbour's dog and even gave the dog a good bath(洗澡). They loved helping others and they were having so much fun doing it as well.
After a few days, the other students at school hoped to join the club. So Gina and Jill opened the club up to new members. Everyone in the club had to promise(承诺) to show love to others. They had meetings every week. They planned who they would help and why they would do it. Everyone gave away (捐) some money each week to buy flowers or cards for sick people in hospitals to cheer them up (使……振作起来). In a short time, everyone at school heard of the club and almost everyone wanted to join it.
It was hopeless to ask any more questions. It was clear that Holmes' cleverness with the telegram (电报)had not given us what we needed.
I was walking away from the post office when I heard someone r after me. A voice called me by name, and I turned. I thought it was Dr. Mortimer, because I knew n else in the village. To my surprise, it was a stranger. He was a small, thin man, between thirty and f years old, with fair hair and no beard. He was carrying a butterfly net, and a box for putting b in.
"I hope I can introduce myself, Dr. Watson," he said, as he came up to me. "My name is Stapleton. I was in Dr. Mortimer's house and we saw you. He tme who you are. May I walk along with you? This path back to the Hall goes near my home, Pen House. Please come in and meet my sister, and san hour with us. "
I accepted hinvitation, and we walked together.
"I know that you are a close friend of Sherlock Holmes," said Stapleton. "Has Mr Holmes any i about Sir Charles' death?"
"I'm a I can't answer that question," I said. "Will Mr Holmes visit us himself?" he asked.
"He can't leave London at the moment," I answered. I was very surprised that he was asking me these q.
