A 70 — year — old Chinese woman has been called "Super Grannie" after it was reported that she is 1 about running and has completed over 100 marathons(马拉松)so far.
Most people 2 to take it easy after they retire (退休), but Wang Guilan, from Liaoning, is3 not one of them. She only started running at the age of 50, as a4 to keep in shape, but soon realized it was her passion ( 酷 爱 ) . She ran her first marathon in 2004 and hasn't5 since. From 2005 to 2017, she completed the Beijing Marathon thirteen times, and this year she set a new record, becoming the6 person to ever complete the 168—kilometer Liaoning marathon.
"This lady is as old as my grandmother, how can she run so fast? That's7 , " a runner in his twenties said after seeing Wang compete 8 the Liaoning marathon in April. Last year, she ran for the 110 km version of the marathon with her 9 . It was reported that she waited for her friend to catch up for about 5—6 hours 10 they could cross the finishing line together, but this year she took part in the marathon by11 , and chose the longest distance.
So 12 can a 70-year-old stay in good condition to complete a marathon, while most people half her13 couldn't finish? One reason, according to Sina, is that Wang Guilan runs at least 20 kilometers every day. And she 14 running on mountain roads in her native Liaoning, but in winter she runs on asphalt(沥青)roads.
Wang Guilan 15 believes that age is just a number, and plans to continue running and enjoying the sunset of her life for as long as her health allows it.

Laura walks around the shops.
After an hour she wants to go to the bathroom. But she doesn't find it. "Where is the bathroom? " she says. She starts asking other people. Laura says to a man, "Excuse me, sir. Could you please tell me where the bathroom is? " The man says, "You mean the restroom, right? " Laura says, "No, I mean the bathroom. " "Well, the restroom is over there. " He says and walks away.
Laura doesn't understand(明白). She asks a woman, "Excuse me, madam. Could you please tell me where the bathroom is?" "The restroom is over there," the lady answers and walks away. Laura is confused. "What's wrong? I need to use the bathroom and they tell me to rest!"

After travelling more than seven months in space, Tianwen 1 is one step closer to Mars! Tianwen 1, China's first Mars probe(探测器), successfully entered Mars orbit(轨道) in February, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). It will stay in orbit for about three months before landing on the red planet.
A small step on the red planet will be a big step for human beings. Humans have launched 46 Mars exploration missions(探测任务) since October 1960, but only 19 of them have been successful, according to China Daily. It's China's first spacecraft to Mars, and the missions are rather ambitious. Tianwen 1 aims to achieve "orbiting, landing, and roving" all in one journey, which will make the country the world's first to accomplish all three goals with one probe, mission scientists said.
Among the three tasks, touchdown on the red planet is the most difficult. The result mainly depends on the "breathtaking(激动的) seven minutes," which will use several cutting-edge technologies(前沿技术) and accurate(精确的) timing of each action, including the starting of engines and opening of parachutes(降落伞) to ensure a safe landing, according to the Global Times.
The previous(此前的) success of Chang'e 5 has accumulated(积累) experience in this regard which "boosts(增强) our confidence", Wang Ya'nan, chief editor of Beijing-based Aerospace Knowledge magazine, told the Global Times.
My teenager son Karl became unsocial after his father died, always staying alone and being silent all day. As a single parent, I tried to do my best to talk to him. But the more I tried, the more he pulled away. When his report card arrived, it said that he had been absent 95 times from classes and had six failing grades for the year. If he kept on like this, he would never graduate. I sent him to the school adviser, and I even begged him. Nothing worked.
One night I was at work when I got a phone call. A man introduced himself as the headmaster. "I want to talk to you about Karl's absences." Before he could say another word, I choked up(哽咽)and said sadly, "I love my son. I've tried everything to get Karl back to school…but… it's out of my hands." For a moment there was silence on the other end of the line. The headmaster seriously said," Thank you for your time", and hung up. Karl's next report card showed a marked improvement in his grades. He was even on the list of the most understanding students at school. In his fourth year, I went to a parent—teacher meeting. I noticed that his class teacher was surprised at the way he had turned himself around. On our way home, he said, "Mom, remember that call from the headmaster last year?" I said yes. "That was me. I thought I'd play a joke but when I heard what you said, it really hit me how much I was hurting you. That's when I knew I had to make you proud."
①Mom cried over the phone. ②Karl's father died. ③Mom was told who actually was the caller.
④Karl did badly at school.
Last week, Chicago became the first city in the US to join the "Lights Out Plan". People turned off the lights in the city's tallest buildings, so that thousands of birds could get to their winter homes. Every year in autumn, some birds fly over Chicago on their way to the south, and come back the next spring.
Lights mean danger to birds. Birds find their way home by looking at the stars in the sky. Lights in tall buildings are so bright that birds may mistake them as stars. This means they cannot find the right way to go home.
This month, more than 300 kinds of birds are flying over Chicago to go back to the south to live through the cold winter. Birds fly to warmer places for a few reasons. Many birds cannot live in the cold, so they fly to warmer places. But there are other reasons, too. Birds need to look for food in the south. Another reason is that they want to have baby birds. Many birds like to have their baby birds in the same "house" they lived in last year, so they fly back there.
There are about 9, 000 kinds of birds in the world, and about 600 kinds of birds migrate(迁徙). Some birds can fly a very long way. Sometimes they fly to other countries. We have fewer birds today because there are fewer places for birds.
Dthe dry season I spent a lot of time in my country house. I planted corn on the land ait and I also kept some goats there. I liked going for long walks in the woods and along the beaches. It was a very pleasant part of the island.
One day, while I was walking along a beach, I saw the footprints of a man in the sand! I was very s , and also afraid. Was there another person on my island? Was it a cannibal? I looked around and listened c, but I couldn't see or hear anyone. I h back to my castle and pulled the ladder up behind me. I was very worried and I didn't go out for three days. I couldn't fthe footprints.
'Perhaps someone from the mainland came in a boat and then left again, 'I thought. 'P people often come from the mainland. But if that's true, why do they come? What do they want? Are they l for me? Do they want to kill me?'
Suddenly I didn't feel safe a.
On the third day I had to go out to get some food and milk the goats. I didn't see anyone and I began to feel less frightened.
But the next day I started to build another s fence around my castle.
