As the saying goes, "A hero is known in the time of misfortune ". Zhong Nanshan is a hero like this. He is a doctor in Guangdong, who 1 many people's lives in 2003.
In 2003, SARS 2 in Guangdong. Later, it spread across China and other parts of the world. Patients coughed a lot and got fevers. Hundreds of patients even died 3 the disease. Even many doctors and nurses got SARS when they treated patients. So everyone was afraid of it. But Zhong was 4 enough to fight the disease. Zhong spent days and nights 5 the cause of the disease. And with his way of treating, many patients began to get better. Zhong finally won people's trust.
In early 2020, a disease called Novel coronavirus pneumonia (新型冠状病毒肺炎) hit Wuhan. It spread 6 around tens of thousands of Chinese people were infected (感染). Zhong, 84, 7 his team to Wuhan to fight the illness. Zhong's team took many measures to cure the patients with Novel coronavirus pneumonia. He advised people to wear masks, 8 hands frequently (频繁的) stay at home and not to go to crowed places.
Zhong likes sports very much. 9 he was 67, he could still play basketball. Now at the age of 84, Zhong still treats patients in the hospital and 10 young doctors. "I am just a doctor. " Zhong says. But we think he is a hero and a fighter.
Tipping (给小费) is very hard in British and America. It's significant to gain this authority(权力)when you call at each place for it can decide whether waiters /waitresses, hairdressers or the taxi drivers may think that you are cute, impolite, strange, or whether they may run after you along the street!
In Britain
In Britain the reason for tipping is to show that you really like the service. In Britain the pay for any work is quite high. So when you tip, it is mainly showing politeness to the service person, and to show that they do a great job.
You can tip more or less depending on how good you think the service is, and usually the tip is around 10-20%. If you don't like the service, don't tip! Or if you are a student, or a stranger with not much money, it's also reasonable(合理的)not to tip.
In America
In America "tips" is often called "service". It is quite necessary to tip in America because the service persons in their industries have a low pay which they cannot live on, and therefore (因此) your tip is much needed by them.
It is in effect part of the payment that you make and is compulsory! Especially in restaurants, if you do not pay the service, you have not paid your whole bill, so watch out!
I'd spent tens of years telling my girls that their bodies were a means to a long and satisfactory life, not objects to be admired(羡慕)because of how they look. I told them that good health and the energy to enjoy life should be their ultimate(最终的) goals, not fitting into society's preconceived(预想的)ideas of what is beautiful.
This year I'm sixty years old. I appear much older than before. This aging body of mine is not the one I expected to have. Looking at the old, fat, wrinkled woman in the mirror, I begin to complain(抱怨) about it. I've spent a lifetime focusing on my flaws, constantly complaining about my less-than-perfect self. As I was complaining yet again, my younger daughter told me, "Mom, stop. Stop putting yourself down. This is the body you live in now. It's beautiful because it's yours. " If I'm unwilling(不情愿的)to accept my aging self with grace and dignity(自尊), how can I possibly expect my girls to do the same when they face these same physical changes?
And then, I learned that a friend of mine, the same age as me, died. At her funeral, her three heartbroken daughters spoke of their mother's devotion, wisdom, and compassion(同情心). They never said a single word about her appearance though her body had melted away during her last months. It didn't matter. I left that funeral desperate(痛苦的)to hold my own girls in my arms, to kiss them and tell them how much they mean to me,and to promise that I will do better, be better—for them as well as for myself.
And so, to honour the memory of my dear friend and to set a good example to my beloved girls, I promise to love my aging body, and celebrate the gift of being alive.
China has taken a whole new step in its moon exploration. President Xi Jinping on Dec. 17, 2020 congratulated the complete success of the Chang'e-5 mission(任务) that brings back the country's first samples collected from the moon. Following America and Russia, China has become the third country in the world to collect rocks from the moon.
Chang'e-5 first took off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in Hainan on November 24, 2020. It landed on a massive lava plain (熔岩平原) of the moon on December 1, 2020. Then it started to collect the samples. The samples may help scientists understand more about the moon's origins. It may help work out how the moon comes into being and how it develops. Hopefully, the success of the collection will set an example for other more difficult missions in the future which will be carried out on other planets.
After the returning capsule (太空舱) landed back on Earth, it will be taken to Beijing by plane, where the capsule will be opened and the samples will be ready for study. "China will also provide some of the samples to scientists in other countries", said Pei Zhaoyu, a director at the CNSA.
As the Chang'e-5 mission has been completed successfully, Chinese scientists are already making plans for future moon exploration, including project to build a scientific research station on the moon. "We hope to work together with other countries to build the international lunar scientific research station, which could provide a shared platform for lunar scientific exploration and technological experiments," Pei said.
On March 23,Shenzhou-13 astronauts livestreamed(直播)the second lesson of "Tian'gong Classroom". What fun experiments did they do this time?
Ice Ball Experiment
In the class, Wang Yaping made a "water" ball with some solution(溶液). Then, she used a stick covered with crystal nuclei(晶核) to touch the ball and it quickly became a white ball of "ice". It turned out to be a crystallization effect(结晶效应) caused by the micro-gravity(微重力) environment in space.
Water Bridge Experiment
It's hard to build a "bridge" with water on Earth. But it's quite easy in space!
Wang made two water balls on two plates, pulled them together and then pulled them apart. The water between them didn't break and became a "bridge"! As the surface tension(表面张力) of water is not changed by gravity, it is so strong that the "bridge" doesn't break.
Water-oil Separation Experiment
If we mix oil and water on Earth, they will quickly separate(分离) because of different densities(密度). However, with no gravity in space, they will mix together.
How can we separate them, then? Ye Guangfu rotated(旋转)the bottle to create centrifugal force(离心力). With this man-made gravity, the water and oil were successfully separated.
Space Parabolic Experiment
What happens when an object is thrown out in space? When Wang threw Bing Dwen Dwen forward, it did not fall like it was on Earth, but moved forward at a constant speed(匀速) along a straight line. It showed what was described by Newton's first law.
Black Friday is the day after the American holiday of Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November. There people used it to describe the heavy traffic on the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a popular day for people to start shopping for Christmas. But is Black Friday always good for people?
Many of us love to get discounts(折扣), because we can buy many things at a low price. Black Friday makes people buy many things, but in fact, they don't really need some of these things.
Then what's the alternative(可供选择的事物)to Black Friday? You don't need to buy as much as possible on Black Friday, and you could buy nothing. People in some countries hold Buy Nothing Day(BND)on the same day as Black Friday, and in other countries people hold it on the last Saturday in November. Just don't buy anything at all for 24 hours. It is sure that BND makes people think more about their spending.
Some people go for a walk; some people stay at home; some people give out clothes to people in need on that day.
A. The rules of it are simple.
B. The name "Black Friday" originated in(起源于)Philadelphia.
C. On that day, many things are on sale.
D. However, it isn't always a good thing.
E. What other things can people do on Buy Nothing Day?
Greater Bay Area, tech hub plans, young people are playing key role in effort
Since (it)return to the motherland 25 years ago, Hong Kong has undergone strong growth gone hand in hand with national development, and integration(融合)continues to deepen, a benefit for the city as it (seek)to play a bigger role on the international stage.
The central government has passed (policy)to benefit(增益)Hong Kong's economic (经济的) and /ˈsəʊʃəl/ development over the last quarter-century. Under the "one country, two (system)" policy, Hong Kong and the mainland concluded the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement in 2003 , which offers preferential(优待的) /ˈmeʒəz/ to Hong Kong investors(投资者)seeking to explore the mainland market.
Hong Kong is also teaming up with other cities in Guangdong to play its part in the (world) biggest airport cluster(团体). It is (set) up a high-end aviation industrial zone(航空工业区域)in Zhuhai and a logistics park in Dongguan in response to the soaring demand for cross-border logistics services.
"After actually working and living here, I (find) it wasn't different to live in Hong Kong in terms of food, language and culture, and I gradually(逐渐)realized integrating into the area is one of the best (choose)I have made," Fung Nga, a beneficiary, said.
