I was walking my dog near my home in San Francisco last week when I saw a white dog. Itwas wearing a blue collar (颈圈), but I didn't see its 21 anywhere. I waited for a while, but nobody came. Then I asked the dog 22 it wanted to come home with me or not. I was onlyjoking, but it ran to me and stood by my side, ready to leave. I knew that this was a 23 dog.
On the dog's collar, there was a tag (标牌) 24 a phone number. I called the number. Its owners, Tina and Dan, were surprised to hear from me. They said the dog's name was Banjo andthat they lived in Chicago, over 2,000 miles away. Banjo had been lost for over a year. And theyhad no idea how Banjo25 it all the way across the country. They also had no idea how toget it 26 because they had a baby at home and couldn't make the long trip to SanFrancisco.
I asked for 27 online. Lots of people wanted to help Banjo to get home. Then Banjostarted its trip home. It 28 20 drivers four days to send Banjo home. Banjo was 29 tomeet the new baby and to be back home. 30 owners were excited to have it back, too.
Banjo's story shows what people can achieve when they all work together.

Students usually go to school in different ways. In our school, most students get to schoolbetween 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning. Some arrive on foot, and some take the bus. However, eighty percent of the students arrive in their parents' cars. The entrance (入口) to the school is crowded and dangerous. I think cars are the main problem. I think there are a few things we cando.
First, we should encourage students to take the bus or walk to school. Taking the bus canhelp cut down air pollution. Walking is healthier, too. Next, what should parents do if theirchildren have to come to school by car? I think their parents should park their cars far away fromthe school entrance. For example, they can park their cars at the end of the street. Finally, in myopinion, when parents park dangerously in front of the school entrance, they will be punishedand have to pay some money-a fine (罚金). This way, they will be cautiousand think twice before parking.
In a word, cars are making it dangerous for students to enter the school safely. Therefore (因此), encouraging students to walk to school, or asking parents to park away from the school gate could solve this problem.
Lots of scientists are studying robots today. Many robots don't always look like people. Some are like big machines, and some are nothing but long arms. However, modern robots aresmart. Some can solve problems on their own.
Robots are more and more useful and important in our life. They help us a lot. In factories, robots can help people do a lot of work. They work faster and do not need a rest. People will feelbored if they do the same job again and again, but robots will not. They can work in somedangerous places where people cannot.
Robots are useful in our homes, too. They can help us do some cooking. They can help theblind people read newspapers, help the old people move some heavy things and so on. If wehave some other problems, we can also ask them for help.
However, robots are not so clever as people. They cannot think like us. If we do not "teach"them how to do things first, they can do nothing.
It's possible that we will have our own robots, and they will help us to do more things in thefuture.
A lady wanted a birthday gift from her husband. For many months, she had liked a beautifulring, and knowing her husband could afford it, she told him that was all she wanted. On themorning of the birthday, her husband told her how proud he was to have such a good wife, andhow much he loved her. He gave her a beautiful gift package (盒). She opened it and found a dictionary. She raised her voice and said to her husband, "With all your money, you give me a dictionary? "After that, she left him.
Many years passed and the lady was very successful in business. She owned two largecompanies. She realized her husband was very old, so she thought perhaps she should go to visithim. But before she could, she received a letter telling her that he had died, and gave all of hispossessions (财产) to her. She needed to come back and take care of the things.
When she arrived at his house, she was surprised to see the still new dictionary there, just asshe had left it years before. With tears in her eyes, she opened it and began to turn the pages. Aring dropped from the dictionary to the floor and a card could be seen. She picked it up andfound it was the ring she wanted in those days. And on the card was the date of her birth, and thewords"LOVE YOU ALWAYS".
Please remember sometimes the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seenor even touched, unless they are felt with your heart.

In a history class, Mrs. Bartlett asked the students to make a poster (海报) in groups. She told the students to write the names of three friends they wanted in one group and she wouldthink about their choices.
The next day, Karma was told to be in a group she would never want-the boy who wastoo weak in English, and the two girls who wore strange clothes. Oh, how she wanted to be withher friends. With tears in her eyes, Karma walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. She looked at Karma andseemed to know what Karma was there for. Karma said that she should be in the "good" group. The teacher gently (温柔地) placed a hand on Karma's shoulder. "I know what you want, Karma," she said. "But your group needs you. I need you to help them. Only you can helpthem. " Karma was surprised and moved. The teacher's words encouraged her.
"Will you help them? " the teacher asked. "Yes," Karma replied. Then she bravely walkedover to her group. She sat down and they started. Each of them did a part according to theirinterests. Halfway through the week, Karma felt herself enjoying her group. They did a good jobtogether. The group members weren't thought to be excellent just because no one cared enoughabout them except Mrs. Bartlett.
At last, the group got an A, but Karma thought they should hand the A back to Mrs. Bartlett. She was the one who should truly receive it. Mrs. Bartlett brought out the potential (潜能) in the four of her students.
Today, many kids hardly read books. They are busy with their mobile phones or computers. Forming (养成) the good habit of reading among our kids is really important to their learning success. Parents must do something to help their kids fall in love with reading.
Your reading place doesn't have to be big or have a lot of bookshelves. It can be a chair in the room where your child sleeps. A corner of the sofa is also OK. A comfortable place with enough light can help your child read comfortably.
Reading to your kids could really help set up a good relationship. And this will become moments to be remembered when they are old and you are no longer with them.
A visit to a bookstore once a month is good reading improvement to your kids. Not only will they be more interested in books, but they will also be excited to see different kinds of books. If there are some books they like best, buy them for your kids.
Read in front of your kids often. Whether you love books, magazines, or graphic novels (连环画小说), let your child see you reading. Kids learn from what they see. If you're excited about reading, your child will catch your enthusiasm (热忱).
A good memory has to do with many things, such as focus and interest. You might have afantastic memory for sporting numbers but no head for math. ⑴This happens because you love sports and hate math.
Learning needs attention. You need 8 seconds to understand a piece of information and keepit in the memory, so try to focus on one thing when you want to remember it. ⑵The best time for learning is the early morning. This is the time when our brains are the most active. We take inand work out information quickly at that time.
