There is a north﹣south valley（峡谷） in Quebec, Canada. The western hillside is covered with all kinds of trees, but there is mostly a kind of cedar雪松） on the1 hillside. This is strange, but nobody knows2 .

We often call the earth the Blue Planet. That's because almost three quarters of the earth is covered with water. People think we are not short of water. In fact, it is wrong. Most of the water is salt water in the world's oceans. Only about 3% is fresh water that we can drink. 

You may think that most of the fresh water is found in the lakes and rivers, in fact, less than 1% of the fresh water can be found in these places. Around 70% of the earth's fresh water is ice in the polar（极地的） places, they are too far from the places where most people live. It's difficult for people to get it. 

The second﹣greatest source of fresh water on the earth is under the ground. This type of water is called ground water. Places that don't have fresh water from rivers and lakes depend on groundwater for drinking and other uses. Groundwater also can't get away from pollution. Chemicals（化学制品） used in farming and factories can get into the ground. 

The earth has little usable water. Luckily, each of us can do something to save water. Kids and adults are saving water wisely in their own communities. If we work together, we will have a better world. 

When people think of tigers, they think they are strong and dangerous. But now, the big animal needs our help. There were once eight kinds of tigers in the world, but three died out during the 20th century. In the last 70 years, the number of Siberian tigers has gone from 300 to less than 22. The Siberian tiger has been in danger of dying out completely. If the government doesn't make any efforts, it's quite possible that there will be no more Siberian tigers in China in twenty years. 

WWF has started a program recently. The purpose is to save wild tigers and put an end to tiger hunting and killing. China, together with twelve other countries has joined in. Wild animals, such as red deer and wild pigs, are the main food of the tigers. The hunting of these animals is bad for tigers. So the most important thing is to protect the animals that tigers eat. We need to call on more people to stop eating and hunting wild animals. 

We all have days when we are down, tired and unhappy. Even if sadness is part of our life, let's try to make it small. .

Tony was a ten﹣year﹣old student. He went to school by himself, and he left school at fifteen o'clock every day. His parents were usually busy working and got home very late. So after school Tony walked to his grandma's house first every day. His grandma made dinner for him. 

One afternoon Tony walked to his grandma's house. Usually, his grandma was in front of the door waiting for him. But today she wasn't there. When he reached the door, he found he couldn't find his key anywhere. "Oh, I lost my key, "he said to himself. 

Tony rang the doorbell （门铃）, but no one came. Tony felt a little worried. He walked around the house and looked in every window. He found the window in the kitchen was open. So he climbed inside. 

Tony found his grandma in her bedroom. She fell down and lay on the floor. Tony ran to call his father. Soon his dad came over and took Grandma to hospital. 

A few hours later Grandma was safely home. Tony told her about his lost key. Grandma was happy that he found a way to help her. She smiled and told him she had two things for him. First, she gave Tony a new key. Then, she gave him a hug（拥抱） and told him how much she loved him. Tony thought to himself, "This must be how a hero feels. "
