A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. When they1 ,there were many parents and their children playing in the park. The son was happy when he saw the sky filled with 2 kites. He wanted to fly a kite, too.So they went to a kite shop and3 a beautiful one.
The father is good4 flying kites. Soon the kite was high up in the sky. After a while, the son said. "Dad, it 5 that the string (线) is stopping (阻止) the kite from flying higher. 6 we cut it, it will be free and fly even higher. Can we cut it?" The father said 7 but just cut the string off. The kite really went higher. This made the little boy8 .
But then, after a few minutes, the kite started to 9 slowly. It soon fell onto the ground in the end. The son was 10 to see this. He asked his father, "I thought that 11 cutting the string, the kite would fly higher. Why did it fall down?"
The father smiled and said, "The role (作用) of the string was not stopping the kite from going higher, but was helping it stay in the sky, because the kite 12 can't fly up. You helped the kite go up in the right direction (方向) using the string. But when you cut the string, it could no longer support the kite."
In our life, we may sometimes13 like there are certain things that are holding us back and stopping us from growing. 14 in fact, these may be the things that support us the most. We can really15 and become better by knowing the importance of these things.

It's no secret that there is a space(空间)problem in Manhattan(曼哈顿). People build up higher and higher buildings because there isn't much land left and there is no room to build out. So people have been building lots of tall and thin buildings. Developers(开发商)are trying to build higher and higher buildings. However, the government has made laws(法律)that don't allow developers to build too high buildings.
Oiio Studio thinks about things differently, "what if our buildings were not tall but long?" So the founder of Oiio Studio, loannis Oikonomou, design(设计)a U-shaped building, the Big Bend. It would be a very thin building. It would curve( 弯 曲 ) at the top and return to the ground. Oikonomous said he thought of the great idea because he learned from a piece of news. It said that a company made a lift that could travel in curves. So he designed the Big Bend. He thought it as "the longest building in the world". It would be 4000 feet from end to end and would need a different lift system.
We can't change the law, ▲ . So if we can bend(使弯曲)our building, we would be able to
build one of the most amazing buildings in Manhattan," Oiio Studio said.
The Big Bend is just an idea for now. Oikonomous has sent the plans to a few companies, and is looking for developers. If successful, they will build the Big Bend around West 57th Street, just to the south of Central Park.
"Wash your hands often and completely, with soap and running water!" We often hear this, but do you follow it? We know it's good for our health to wash hands. There's even a day to make us do it and know more about its importance. It is Global Hand-washing Day and it's on October 15. During the outbreak of COVID-19, washing hands plays an even more important role in preventing the virus (病毒) from going around.
People think of Doctor Semmelweis from Hungary(匈牙利) as the first person to find out the good results of hand washing. He pointed out the importance of hand washing to doctors, because they often worked with people who are seriously ill. And he saved a lot of people's lives by telling doctors to wash hands with chlorine (氯) before each examination (检查).After that, the number of dead patients (病人) became much smaller.
You might think everyone would be excited, because Dr. Semmelweis solved the big problem . But in fact things were quite different. Although Dr. Semmelweis kept asking doctors to wash their hands with chlorine, not every doctor accepted (接受) his idea. Some even sent him to a mental hospital. His idea became really popular years after he died.
Now that washing hands is of great importance, we should do it as carefully as we can. What's more, it's important to wash our hands in right ways.
As soon as the woman got into the house, her eight-year-old daughter told her that her younger brother drew so many pictures on the clean wall of his bedroom and left the white wall in a mess.
When the woman heard this, she was angry. "Where's your brother now?" "He's hiding himself in the cupboard in his bedroom." The little girl answered. The woman got even angrier. She complained about her son when she went towards her son's bedroom.
The six-year-old boy was staying with fear in the cupboard when he heard what his mother said. He knew she got really angry this time.
The woman pushed the door open with a loud noise. But when she saw the words and pictures on the wall, her anger soon went away. "I love you, Mum!" covered the whole wall, with so many hearts around them, and so many stars in the sky.
The mother's eyes were full of happy tears. She opened the door of the cupboard, and hugged her son tightly. The boy said "I love you, Mum!" to her mother in a low voice when he was in his mother's arms.
It's the most expensive present from her son — "Love on the wall". Eight years later, the boy suddenly died of heart disease. The mother had kept the wall tidy with great care for nearly fifty years until she was dead.
In the mother's heart, it seemed that her son was alive, and always looking at her in the sky with many shining stars around him.
