Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a hut outside the village. One day while walking through a market, he saw many baskets and among them was a basket of dates(枣).
Seeing those dates, the hope of eating them arose in the farmer's mind. He had no money to buy them, so he controlled his wish and went on his way to his hut. But even after reaching his small house, the thoughts of eating dates wouldn't go away. He kept thinking about them only and couldn't even sleep well at night.
The next morning, when he woke up, he started thinking of ways to make money so that he could buy dates and fulfill his wish. Then he got an idea. He decided to go to the nearest forest and collect some dry wood and sell it at the market. He went to the forest and started picking up dry wood, and before evening he collected a lot of dry wood and made a bundle of it. Carrying that bundle on his shoulder, he started walking to the market.
The bundle of wood was so heavy that it was difficult for the farmer to lift it and cover that distance. The farmer was tired because of all the work, so he stopped and rested for a while. Then he continued walking toward the market.
The farmer sold all the wood shortly after he got to the market. With all the money he got, he bought some dates and happily started walking back to his hut.
On his way, he thought, "Today I had the wish to eat dates. Tomorrow some other wishes may come into my mind. If I give in today, then I will become a slave(奴隶) of my desire(欲望). "
As soon as this idea came, the farmer gave up the idea of eating the dates, which took him so much hard work. Finally, he gave all the dates to a poor man who was passing by at that time.

Indonesians love to celebrate. They believe that celebrating and eating together brings good luck. Let's party Indonesia﹣style.
Would you be surprised to find a New Year's Day in March?Indonesians on the island of Bali are getting ready to ring in Nyepi, their New Year. It falls in March or April on the night of the new moon and is a symbol of a fresh start for the people and the island of Bali. On the eve of Nyepi, families and friends get together in the market. They carry a huge monster which is made of wood and other materials around the village three times. After that, people set it on fire, hoping to drive out evil spirits.
After Nyepi, a Turun Tanah ceremony begins in honor of a child's first steps. At the TurunTanah, parents invite friends and family to a party to introduce the baby. They put different objects such as a bracelet(手镯), pen, mirror or toy computer around their baby. If the baby picks up a pen, he or she may be a writer. A child who picks up a gold bracelet may be rich.
While Turun Tanah celebrates the future of a family, Galungan celebrates its past. Ancestors who have died return "home" during this ten﹣day celebration. And living relatives do their best to make them happy. Tall bamboo poles line the street. People attend the ceremonies and visit their family and village temples. Actors and dancers give performances that tell stories of good fighting against evil.
A year of festivals has come to an end. Don't worry:next year, Indonesia will be uzzin (嗡嗡声)again with celebrations, so welcome to the party!

Julio is a 30﹣year﹣old Swiss educator. He has a collection of clover(三叶草). It just might make him the world's luckiest man. Clovers with more than (三) leaves stand for good luck in many countries. He has been collecting them (自从) he was only nine. And he has a great collection of 3, 467 four, five﹣, six﹣ and even seven﹣leafed clovers. The first four﹣leafed clover he(采摘) was with his grandfather. He'll never (忘记) that first experience. His most (活跃的) period was between the ages of 25 and 30, and filled his time by walking through the countryside. There were days when he found between 50 and 100 clovers. His personal (日常的) record stands at 200 clovers with at least four leaves. Mentioning his collected clovers, Julio said that, on average, out of 10, 000 (植物) only one has four leaves, out of 10, 000 you're likely to find one with five leaves, and six﹣leafed clovers are (大约) one in two million. As for seven﹣leafed cloves, they are so rare all over the world. Julio just enjoys going on walks. And whenever he sees a clover patch, he spends a few minutes combing it (仔细地). The clover collector says that with the world moving at a faster (速度) every day, stopping to look for lucky clovers gives him some time for himself, in the middle of nature.
I spent many years of my life pretending(假装). I told myself I was happy with my job, although I knew from the first day that it wasn't fit for me. I pretended to agree everyone around me to avoid the risk of disagreement. After (spend) so much time hiding my true self, I finally felt that I'd had enough of pretending.
I made decision to stop pretending. It's (easy) to pretend than to be truly honest with ourselves, but it comes with a heavy price. If I pretend my job is satisfying, I probably won't make the necessary changes to create a new job that will bring (I) much pleasure to my life. If I pretend to be happy in a relationship when my true (feeling) clearly say something else, how can I improve my relationship?
These days, I'm always saying what's true for me. When I (ask) to work on a new project, I said that I wasn't good at it I had little experience with it. In the past, I always hid that fact and felt bad about it for days or even weeks. During parties, I admit(承认) that I hate my job and can't wait (leave). In the past, I pretended I liked it just to fit in with everyone else.
Pretending is so costly we give away not only money but also peace of mind and happiness. I stopped pretending from then on.
