It was one of the hottest summers inin the state of Victoria, Australia. Bush fires*were burning veryto people's homes and they were in danger. In every town, volunteers were fighting the fires. David Tree was one of thesefirefighters.
On 9 February. Mr Tree was working with his team near his home town of Mirboo. They were fighting a bush fire. They wereup Samson Road when Mr Tree saw a koala. It was walking across the burned ground, and it didn't look happy. There's a koala, stop the truck. Mr Tree shouted and jumped out "I videoed the koala for my daughter Cheyenne and shouted for a bottle of water."

My family and I had a buffet dinner at a hotel yesterday to celebrate my son's birthday. When we cut the cake, a band played the birthday song for us. A waitress gave my son a little gift. He was so happy. It was a really nice experience!

Happy birthday to your son, Kerry! I did not have a good dining experience today. The man who sat next to me was talking with his mouth full. His food flew out of his mouth to the table and my plate! I think he's really rude.

I have also met some people who had bad manners. For example, they coughed without covering their mouths. Some of them put all their shopping bags on the chairs even when they saw someone waiting. I think they should think more about others! When I see someone who does something inappropriate at a restaurant, I usually ask the waiters for help. You guys may try this next time.

I went to a restaurant in City Centre last week. It was so special! It looked like a classroom and you could draw on the tables. The lunch set looked like a kid's box lunch. I took many photos with my friends there!

Wow! I would like to go to the restaurant you recommended, Natalie! I like trying different restaurants because I like eating!
Arthur lives in Portsmouth with his wife and three children. He has a good job but he isn't happy. Arthur is the captain of a large tanker[1]. He loves ships and the sea and is good at his job. He earns a lot of money and has a lot of free time at work to study languages and write. So what's the1 ?
Arthur has a "three months on-two months off" contract[2], which means that he goes to sea for three months and then has two months of holiday. This means that some years he isn't at home for Christmas, some years he is away during the summer holidays and every year he misses someone's birthday, school shows and other important days. His children are 12,10 and 6 and they grow2 at that age.
When Arthur comes home, the children spend a day or two just looking at him and trying to3 what to say. There are also good times. The family have parties to celebrate any birthdays missed and they sometimes have Christmas dinner in November or January but there is always a feeling of sadness that they can't happen at the right time. It is obvious that the last week of his leave is filled with4 .
Life is also difficult for his wife, Theresa. She is a teacher and, for three months, has no husband to help her with shopping, cooking, cleaning and checking homework. She is very5 , so the children help with the housework, go to bed at nine o'clock and get up for school without any problems. Theresa prepares dinners in advance and makes the most of every hour of the day. Then, Arthur comes home. He ignores the normal bedtimes because he wants to tell his children stories and play with them. The children stop doing housework and, because they go to bed late, they are tired when they get up in the morning. Of course, Theresa understands and is pleased to see her family so happy, but it takes a week or more to get life back to normal when Arthur goes back to sea.
Now, Arthur wants to find a job on land but he knows it isn't easy. What can a ship's captain do when he isn't on a ship? Arthur's dream is to be a writer of children's books and work from home. This dream6 him up when he is on the other side of the world and still has two months before he sees his family again.

In a little fishing village in Southern Thailand, there are some boys who like to play football. They play with a lot of excitement and interest, running, shouting, jumping and kicking. These boys are really good at cthe ball because their football field is a raft[1] in the middle of the sea. They live on Koh Panyee Island, where all the houses are built on tall wooden sticks. The village has 300 families, but even though it is small, the football team from the village has been very s. The Panyee Football Club has won the Thai Youth Football Championships seven times since 2004.
The story of the Panyee Football Club bin 1986 when some young boys from the village were watching the World Cup Football Championships on TV. S one of the boys said, "We watch football on TV, but we've never played it." The boys made a decision. "Our football team starts today. We want to become world hampions!" they shouted. But the villagers I at them. They asked," Are you crazy? Have you ever played football? You've already formed a team, but have you found a field yet? How can you practise? The boys were determined to make their dream come true. They used old fishing boats and pieces of wood to make a floating football field. They practised for hours every day, even when it was very wand smooth after a heavy rain. In their first year, they made it to the semifinalst2 of the local football competition. They have been playing for over 25 years, and now they are one of the best youth football teams in the country. The story reminds us that anything is p if we are determined to chase our dreams. The boys never gave up on their dream, even when they faced many difficulties. Their hard work paid off, and they became champions.
Every three minutes, a child is born with a clef lip. Children with these conditions[1] bave terrible problems with eating, drinking and speaking and one in ten of tbem die before their first birthday. The luckier ones live, but they are often rejected by friends and sometimes even by their own families.
In rich countries, simple surgeries[3] can correct most of these mouth problems and allow children to live normal lives. But in poorer countries, the operations are too expensive for ordinary people and there are not enough doctors who can do them.
In 1982, American doctor Bill Magee and his wife Kathy, a nurse, went to the Philippines to do some cleft lip surgeries. But it was a short trip and there was no time to help all the children who needed surgery. They felt terribly guilty. When they got home, they started a new charity. They called it Operation Smile.
Now Operation Smile works in more than sixty countries. Five thousand volunteers give their time and skills to provide free mouth surgery to the children who need it most. The charity also provides medical equipment and trains local doctors to do the surgery themselves. In this way, the results of an Operation Smile visit continue long into the future.
When an international group of doctors and nurses travels to a country, two secondary school students go, too. The students are usually people who have done a lot of fundraising[4] in their local area and told a lot of people about the work of Operation Smile. Their trip is a fantastic way to experience a completely different culture and help to change lives forever.
