The next day, the young man began to work just as the old man had told. Each day he looked after the plants 7 . It took him several years to collect two pounds of the powder. He rushed to his father-in-law's house.

"Wonderful!" said the old man. "Now I can show you how to turn dirt into gold! But first you must bring your wife here."

The first night that I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. A servant came to my house one day with an invitation from his Mr. Gatsby. However, most of the people at his parties were not invited—they just went there. Sometimes they came to the party and left without ever having met Gatsby.

I went over to Gatsby's house at about seven o'clock. I felt nervous among all these people I didn't know, so I walked around looking for Gatsby. I asked many guests where he was, but they all stared at me in such a surprised way that I decided to go and sit at the bar. I sat at a table where a man was sitting. The man at the table looked at me and smiled.

"I think I have seen you before," he said politely. "Were you in the army during the war? Were you in the First Division?"

"Why, yes I was." I was surprised.

The man and I talked for a while about some of the places we had been in the war. I learned that he lived in this neighborhood too, because he told me that he had just bought an airplane and planned to try it in the morning.

"Do you want to fly with me tomorrow, young fellow?" he asked.

I wanted to go and accepted. I was about to ask his name when he said to me, "Having you had a good time now?"

I smiled to my new friend, "This party is strange for me. I don't even know the host. I haven't met him yet. I live over there—I turned around and pointed my hand toward my house and this man, Gatsby, sent over his servant with an invitation."

For a moment, the man I was talking to looked at me as if he didn't understand. "I'm Gatsby," he said suddenly.

"What!" I cried. "Oh, I didn't—I'm so sorry."

"I thought you knew, young fellow. I'm sorry—I suppose I'm not a very good host."

He smiled at me. His smiles had a quality of comfort in it. It was a smile that you may only see four or five times in life. His smile seemed to say that the whole world was good and that you were also good. His smile understood you and it believed you.

His smile disappeared, and I looked at Mr. Gatsby for the first time. He was a handsome young man, about thirty years old and dressed very well. He spoke very politely and it was a little funny to me; most men his age were not so polite. He spoke as if he was carefully choosing his words.

Drowning（溺水）is among the 10 leading causes of death of children and young people in every region of the world, with children aged under 5 years especially at risk and males twice as likely to drown as females.

Tragedies are happening over and over again. To prevent them from growing further, we need to keep some safety tips in mind. Remember, you can drown in the sea just as easily as a swimming pool.

●Supervise when in or around Water.

Ask a responsible adult to watch young children while in the bath and all children swimming or playing in or around water：Because drowning occurs quickly and quietly, adults should not be involved in any other distracting activity (such as reading, playing cards, or talking on the phone) while watching children, even if lifeguards are present.

●Drowning ≠ Crying for help.

Drowning is often not as dramatic as what we see in movies. When someone is drowning, especially if it is a child, they may not be able to shout out. A lot of times when kids drown, they look like they are just absent-minded —but they are actually going unconscious. At this point, they should be immediately carried out of the water.

●Life jackets can reduce risk.

Don't use air-filled or foam toys, such as "water wings", "noodles", or inner-tubes, instead of life jackets. These toys are not life jackets and are not designed to keep swimmers safe.

●Don't try to save drowning friends.

Yes, what we are telling you is this is not when you should show your unconditional love to your drowning friends and family members. It is very likely that by saving them, you can get yourself into danger, and might end up becoming a drowning victim yourself.

Saving someone drowning hand-in-hand with a few others can be even more dangerous. The "human chain" you form can easily break if one of you experiences any kind of tiredness, and one person can drag down the whole team.

●Know who can save a life.

Now, knowing that you cannot really save a life, who should you ask for help? Lifeguards. They are usually well-trained and are equipped with many tested life-saving methods. Therefore, if you think you see someone drowning, alert a lifeguard at once, even if you're not sure what drowning looks like or think you might be wrong.

"Connecting everything" is a proper slogan for 5G technology, without which the Internet of Things would be impossible, For example, self-driving cars contain several kinds of sensors, such as radar, computer vision, and GPS to identify driving routes, obstacles and road signs. 5G technology will link all the elements of a transportation system, such as traffic lights, CCTV cameras and, of course, cars to build up perfect coordination so they can avoid obstacles and move on driving routes, which will help strengthen self-driving technology.

Reliability of connections is another key characteristic of 5G technology, whose use can be spread to other fields where high safety standards are required. For example, in certain surgeries（外科手术）, doctors put nano-robots inside a patient's body and have to keep constant control over the robots to ensure they work well and do not cause any harm to the patient. This is an area where 5G technology can be of great help, as it can build up reliable and continuous connections between the monitor and the nano-robots.

And removing delays might come in handy especially in online games. Even long after 4G technology was introduced, players continued to complain about losing games because of low speed. This problem can be solved with 5G technology, because it will ensure continuous high speed.

And for those people who think that 5G costs will be very high, they need not worry. The cost problem can be solved in two ways.

First, factories can produce more micro base stations, which not only occupy less space but also cost less. And second, many more terminals（终端）can use a 5G base station compared with a 4G base station. The more terminals using a 5G base station, the lower cost each of them have to pay. Therefore, 5G technology won't be as costly as you thought.
