There is an unusual holiday in the US that falls on the fourth Thursday of April every year. It is very Christmas, Thanksgiving, or other well-known holidays. It is called Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This holiday is meant to be as well as fun. The idea is simple, and the name says it all. It is a day for working parents to show their kids what they do all day.
Although this holiday doesn't seem very complex(复杂的), it has meaningful . There are many good reasons why a child should know what his or her parents do at work. For one thing, it is hard for children to understand the life of an adult when all they know is school. Therefore, this holiday helps children learn what it means to have a job. It also helps them learn about the differences and similarities between their world and the grown-up world. When young people know more about their parents' lives, they can stronger parent-child relationships. This alone is worth a day of celebration.

An English traveler found himself in Norway with only enough money to buy the ticket for him to go back home. As he knew that it would take him only two days to get to England, he decided that he could easily spend the time food. So he bought a ticket and got on the ship. The man closed his ears to the sound of the lunch bell. When dinnertime came, he didn't go to dinning room, saying that he was not feeling very well. The next morning he still didn't have breakfast and at lunchtime he stayed in his room. But at dinnertime he was so hungry that he went to the dinning room and ate everything the waiter put him. He got ready for the quarrel.
"Bring me the bill," he said. "The bill, sir?" said the waiter in surprise. "There isn't any bill. On our ship meals are in the money for the ticket."

When I was younger, bedtime was always my favourite part of the day. Wearing soft pajamas(睡衣裤) and with Lan, my stuffed monkey, in my arms, I felt no pressure at all.
I named Lan after my uncle when I compared Lan's long arms and legs to his. One night I ran up to Uncle Lan at a family party and told him I had named my monkey after him. His eyebrows wrinkled in confusion, then a chuckle(哈哈大笑) escaped his lips. I guess he didn't understand how important it was to me.
Even if Uncle Lan didn't think my monkey was special, I certainly did. I dressed him in a white baby nightgown. My mother thought that Lan was the best-dressed stuffed animal in the world. Yes, he was certainly a fashionable creature. The strong cologne(科隆香水) I used on him years ago makes him still smell "pretty".
For a long time, Lan went everywhere with me. He was my best friend, and I told him everything. But when I turned twelve, I realized I was too old for stuffed animals. I thought people would think I was babyish, so I put him in the cupboard with the rest of my teddy bears and dolls. I begged him to understand why I was doing this, but at the same time I longed to talk to him again.
It took me several years to realize that it was OK to miss Lan. I know now that maturity doesn't only mean growing up and taking on more responsibility. It also means holding on to your childhood and acting young sometimes.
Lan has been with me since I was six years old. Holding him in my arms connects me to my past and my present as I continue to grow and understand myself.

A major development to self-driving cars may change the way we will drive in the future. Google, the leading company in self-driving technology, has changed its development plan. It had driverless cars built by car factories, but now will start building its own cars.
Google has started to build some kinds of experimental electric self- driving cars that look like a Smart car or Fiat 500. There is no steering wheel (方向盘),gas pedal (油门) or brake (刹车). The only thing a human passenger controls is a red "e-stop" button for fear stops and a start button. The car's only "friendly" face is designed to make it help people accept self-driving technology.
Google workers took part in a long experiment, in which they used self-driving cars for their usual travel to work. No accident happened, but Google's heads realized that depending on a human passenger to drive in an emergency wouldn't work because they may be reading, working, or sleeping. Now the self-driving car drives by itself if the driver takes his hands off the wheel for over ten seconds.
Google's self-driving cars are now limited to a speed of 25 miles per hour for safety reasons. The cars aren't allowed to drive on highways. However, a Google engineer said that once the cars are solved to run safely, we can drive at the speed of 50, even 80 miles an hour.
Google recently announced that its cars had covered 700,000 miles of public roads, and they were now running in busy city streets. People who love self-driving cars say this will improve transport by making roads safer, cutting down accident, and making less pollution.
