I always knew that I depended too much on my phone. But I didn't know how much, so I decided to do this 1 to find out.
Every morning since I got a smart phone, I've used The Weather Forecast App to find out what to 2 . On the first morning, I had to dress without guidance, but thankfully I was able to guess that the day would be cold and foggy by looking out of my window.
I couldn't know what time it was. I haven't worn a 3 for more than a year, because my phone 4 the time. So I was late for 5 friends who had been on the bus for two hours from Santa Monica to PalosVerdes. I was also delayed for my part-time job. And 6 I couldn't call people to tell them that I was running late.
Getting to places was harder, too. I got 7 because I couldn't use the GPS on my phone. My driving, though, got a lot 8 because I no longer had my phone in one hand checking directions while 9 with the other.
But the number one trouble was not having my contact list. I forgot to write down my friends' and family members' phone numbers before I 10 the challenge. It was sad to realize that I couldn't 11 their cellphone numbers. Oh, how I 12 to turn on the phone for just a second to look up theirs!
Even with all the problems, however, I found 13 not worrying about missing a text message or an e-mail.
This challenge was an unbelievable learning experience. It surprised me how I'd taken no notice of even the 14 things like remembering phone numbers. We all should 15 some time to think about how we can depend less on our cellphones.

Well done, Javier. You are always active in speaking at school, and this is great. I always enjoy reading your writing, too. You have very good ideas. You can see from your report that reading is not a problem for you.
Sometimes you still make small grammar mistakes, and I think you can improve your vocabulary. I suggest you go over many important things that we learned this term. There is much language practice in your online workbook.
The area you need to work on the most is listening. I know this is difficult for you. I think you need more practice at home. Watch English TV shows and listen to tapes as much as possible. I can give you a lot of things to listen to.
Have a nice holiday, and good luck for next term!

Recently, keeping pets has become more and more popular in China, especially among the young. According to the research, cats are the fastest growing group among all pet animals. Some may think it has something to do with the cute appearance of cats. However, as far as I know, there are quite a few more reasons behind why young people today are choosing to become "cat servants".
For starters, young people are under great social pressure and communicate less with others. As a result, many of them may experience feelings of loneliness when they are at home. So having a pet in your home can be a nice choice. After a long day's work, you can feel less lonely by knowing that there's going to be a living thing there waiting to greet and spend time with you. Pets can give you a sense of being needed. You can always tell your sorrows to cheer yourself up, or share your secrets with them.
Then, why do people keep cats instead of dogs? Because cats have several advantages over dogs. For example, cats don't need to be walked like dogs, and often, cats keep themselves cleaner. Cats are also more independent than dogs, which allows cat owners to spend more time on their own hobbies and to stay with them freely. Moreover, cats are quiet animals. As a senior high school student, I preferred to share my bad feelings with friends. But anyway, keeping a cat is amazing and you can always give it a try.
Can a piece of paper be changed into a fine work of art? If you have the chance to enjoy Liang Chunlan's paper-cuts, you'll be surprised at her skills
Liang Chunlan is a member of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association. She began learning how to make paper-cuts when she was a little girl. "Influenced by both my mother and grandmother, I developed such an interest," said Liang Chunlan.
Liang Chunlan has been making paper-cuts for more than 30 years. She's already won many prizes for her paper-cuts, by drawing inspiration from life and Fushun's traditional culture, she has created a special artistic style.
In recent years, she's put lots of effort into spreading this art. She likes teaching others to make paper-cuts . Sometimes, when she eats out with her friends. She folds napkins and cuts paper with scissors to show her friends how to make paper-cuts.
To encourage young people to learn the craft -making skills, she's provided training courses for school to teach them how to make paper-cuts. She's also spoken to university students in Australia and other countries to introduce this traditional art.
Liang Chunlan has written several books to help Chinese understand the beauty of the paper –cuts. Some art schools have used her works as teaching materials. She'll continue to try her best to do something meaningful to spread our country's traditional art-paper-cuts.
ChatGPT is a chat robot which was found by the company OpenAI. The technology chats in a conversational way, answering questions from the user. The online chat robot has been trained on lots of information from the Internet—it can have a human–like conversation by answering questions.
Experts say it can be used to write essays, stories, poems and even solve computer code(代码). But there are limits to what it can do, which OpenAI admits(承认). Sometimes it writes answers which are incorrect or it doesn't make sure of, and it sometimes guesses what the user has asked it, rather than asking more follow-up questions to understand the question better.
ChatGPT is getting mixed reviews from people. Some think students might use it to cheat while others think they should use it in a classroom to help children learn. Some people have suggested that the software should be welcomed. They argue that, just like when the calculator(计算器) was created, people were unsure at first, but if teachers introduce the technology and teach students how to use it, that could help with their learning.
Some news articles have reported that ChatGPT will "end homework". Elon Musk wrote on his Twitter, "It's a new world. Goodbye homework!"
While ChatGPT can answer questions which may be able to help you out with homework, it might not always give the correct facts. This is because its main purpose is to create sentences that could have been written by a human—rather than searching on the Internet for facts. This means it can sometimes get things wrong, which wouldn't be good for homework!
The developers of ChatGPT and other chat robots using AI are always looking to ways of improving their accuracy(准确性).
silent me twelve Canada worry |
I can't forget that day. It was a cold snowy morning after the winter (假期). I got up early and went to a new school, which is the most famous one (在...中) middle schools in New York. I was walking alone slowly and worried about lots of things because it was the first time for me to stay (在国外). It was so early that there weren't many people on the (空的) road.
Suddenly a girl who was riding her bike got into trouble. She fell down and tried hard to get up but she (失败) again. Without thinking, I went over and helped her. She said "thank you" with a smile and then rode away. Her words warmed me a lot.
Finally, I got to school. The teacher introduced me to the (全部的) class. Then he asked me to sit down beside a girl. I felt so nervous that I didn't dare to lock at her. Soon the bell (响铃) for the first class. Their textbooks were different from those in my old school. While I (考虑) asking the teacher for help, an English book appeared in front of me. "Let's share." the friendly girl next to me said. "Hi, I'm Carrie." "To my surprise, it was the girl t helped that morning. Later on, we became good friends.
From that I learned: To help others is actually to help (我们自己). What life teaches us is not only (知识) but also experience. So I hope you can always help others in your life.
Most of us know the love story Romeo and Juliet. It was written by William Shakespeare, one of the (great) writers in the world.
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford, in England, in 1564. He came from a rich family, at the age of fifteen, his father lost all the money. William was not able (stay) on at school so he left for London and soon worked an actor in a theater.
At that time, actors often helped to write the plays as well as act them. That was how William discovered that he was good at writing. He wrote about important (thing) like love and hate, good and evil. The crowds around the stage in the theater loved William's plays.
William always worked very (hard). Later, he and his friends built their own theater, called The Globe in London, which soon made (he) rich and famous.
he was fifty, William decided it was time to leave London. He (buy) a big house in Stratford for his family and went to live there. He died in 1612.
He left money to help poor and to help his actor friends. A statue was put up in memory of him. You can still see his statue today and visit the place where he was born.
