An Oklahoma man who was once diagnosed(诊断) with lung cancer and told he only had three months to live says he's now cancer-free thanks to a cheap deworming(驱虫) drug meant for dogs.
Joe Tippens was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016. Despite treatment for the disease, by January of 2017,the cancer had spread to other organs. Doctors advised him to go home and say his goodbyes because he only had three months. Tippens thought he was going to die, and with nothing left to lose, he was willing to try anything in hope of a miracle(奇迹), even a dog dewormer called fenbendazole.
The desperate cancer sufferer came across the strange treatment while reading a post online. The post catching his eye read "If you have cancer or know someone who does, give me a shout". Joe had already signed up for an experimental treatment that doctors said wouldn't save him but might help him live a little longer. But he decided that getting in touch with that poster couldn't hurt, either.
To his surprise, that person was a vet(兽医), who told Joe scientists had accidentally discovered a dog deworming drug seemed to attack cancer cells in mice. One of the scientists conducting the research had been diagnosed with brain cancer, but she started taking fenbendazole and within six weeks her cancer disappeared. Joe decided to have a try.
Tippens continued receiving treatment in hospital, but he also placed an order for fenbendazole. He didn't tell his doctors about it, though. Three months later, when he had another scan to check the spread of his cancerl he was shocked to learn that there was no sign of the cancer anywhere in his body.
There are also studies that suggest the drug basically starves cancer cells and kills them. Still, many doctors are sceptical about the drug and recommend that patients stick to classical treatments.
As spring advances across the Midwest, a new study looking at blooming(盛开的) flowers suggests non-native plants might live longer than native plants due to climate change.
The study-led by researchers at Indiana University and Michigan State University-has shown warming temperatures affect native and non-native flowering plants differently, which could change the look of local place over time. "When a plant flowers determines whether it will be pollinated(授粉) by bees or other insects and how much time it will have to produce seeds. Our data makes me worry that we will have a very weedy world in our future, " said the study's lead author Jen Lau, an associate professor in Indiana University.
The researchers' findings suggest non-native plants may be better at shft~g their flowering time compared to native plants. These differences are thought to influence a plant's success both now and in future warmer environments.
Lau and her students simulated(模拟) global warming in fields planted with 45 native and non-native plants. Some areas were warmed by infrared (红外线的) heaters, while other areas were not. Lau's lab surveyed all plants to determine when they first flowered and how long they flowered.
When plants were grown in warmed plots simulating the climate change expected in the Midwest by the end of the century, the researchers found that non-native plants flowered more than 11 days earlier on average. In contrast, native plants didn't change flowering times at all when warmed.
They also found earlier-flowering non-native plants had greater geographic spread, suggesting that flowering earlier may help promote successful occupation across large areas.
The findings suggest important differences in how native and non-native plants respond to climate change.
The rose is a symbol of love in popular culture, but now the flower could hold more than just symbolic value. A new device(装置) for collecting and purifying water, developed at The University of Texas at Austin, was inspired by a rose and is a great improvement on present methods. Each flower-like structure(构造) costs less than 2 cents and can produce more than half a gallon of water per hour per square meter.
A team led by professor Donglei Fan developed a new approach to solar steaming for water production-a technique that uses energy from sunlight to separate salt and other impurities from water.
In a paper published recently, the authors outline how a rose provided the inspiration for developing a new kind of solar-steaming system made from layered, black paper sheets shaped into petals(花瓣). Attached to a stem-like tube that collects untreated water from any water, the 3D rose shape makes it easier for the structure to collect and hold more liquid.
"We were searching for more effective ways to apply the solar-steaming technique for water production by using black filteredc过滤) paper coated with a special type of polymer(聚合物)," Fan said. She and her team experimented with different ways to shape the paper to see what was best. They began by placing single, round layers of the coated paper flat on the ground under direct sunlight. After toying with a few shapes, Fan was inspired by a book she read in high school. It gave her the idea to try using a flower-like shape, and she discovered the rose to be perfect.
The device collects water through its stem-like tube-feeding it to the flower-shaped structure on top. It can also collect rain drops coming from above. Water finds its way to the petals where the polypyrrole material coating the flower turns the water into steam. Impurities naturally separate from water.
Everyone knows exerase is good for you. When you see the health benefits of physical activity, they can seem almost too good to be true.
Exercising consistently can help prevent heart disease and muscle weakness. Besides, it can control and treat chronic(慢性的)conditions, improve brain function and sleep as well as improve your mood(心。隋)and general quality of life. And it does all that without causing the side effects of some of the prescription drugs used to treat those conditions.
Becoming and remaining consistently active can be a challenge, even when you understand all the benefits. You can take walks around the neighborhood, hit the gym or spend money on home fitness equipment.
Make personal routine to lifestyle
Some people prefer exercising by themselves at home; others prefer a social environment.Strength training(such as weightlifting) can benefit your bones and your muscles, but aerobic(有氧的)exerase in particular strengthens the heart. Running or jogging can burn calories more quickly than walking and can potentially offer more bone-strengthening benefits. For variety, try swimming, biking, group exercise classes, dancing, hiking or sports such as tennis.
Make every minute count
You need only a mimmum of 75 minutes of energetic exercise per week. Even walking can be energetic if you pick up the pace, walk uphill, or increase the speed if you're using a running machine.
A. They can help you with many problems.
B. It can also increase bone and muscle strength.
C. Whatever gets you moving is what you should do.
D. However, not everyone knows just how good it is.
E. You badly want to become interested in physical activity.
F. So follow the advice below to find easy ways to get moving.
G. You can shorten your exercise routine by raising its intensity(强度).

Clara had been studying American sign language for the past year to help with her dyslexia(读写困难)and knew she'd be7 to finger spell into the man's palm(手掌). So she stood up, walked toward the front of the plane, and8 by the seat of Tim Cook, then 64. Gently9 his hand, she finger spelt, "How are you?
Are you OK?" Cook asked for some water.

The construction of pocket or mini parks has given Beijing more greenery as well as a place inpeople can come out for fresh air, socializing and other activities.
In the central commercial and old areas in the capital, where there is a high density(密度)of buildings as well as people, it is an(challenge) job to create new parks. An advantage of mini parks is that they are"flexible". They can be in different shapes according to their location(位置),providing (variety) services.
These parks contribute to a much (good) environment. Mini parks do the work of urban parks for those who live far away from latter. People can(easy) walk over to mini parks built on their streets or in their neighborhood, where they can exercise and enjoy the scenery. Also, with the mini parks, people can be more than(visitor). They can participate in the construction and management. Recently, people in Sanmiao Community in west Beijing, for example, are planning a small gardentheir own.
