Are you traveling to an English-speaking country? If you are, one of the most important things you need to know is1 to ask for directions. Here are some useful phrases (惯用法). Remember to be2 when asking for directions, and don't forget3 "thank you"! "How do I get to⋅⋅⋅"—This is the simplest 4 to ask someone for directions. When you use this phrase, the other person will either tell you which mode of transport (交通方式) to take or 5 your route (路线). "Where exactly (确切地) am I?"—Sometimes in order to understand the directions well, you have to 6 where exactly you are, for example, which7 you are on. "What is the quickest way to get to⋅⋅⋅"—Let's say that you have to go somewhere 8 train, and we know that the train comes at 9 times, so you need to get to the train station quickly. If you could travel in Europe, which country would you visit? France? Italy? You may have forgotten a hidden 'treasure. It is Hungary(匈牙利).
Hungary's location is very important. It is in the middle of Europe. It works as a good transition(过渡) area and a necessary rest stop for visitors from both the eastern and western parts of Europe.
One can see the view in the pictures in Hungary's capital city, Budapest(布达佩斯). People call Budapest the"Pearl of the Danube(多瑙河明珠)". It was once made up of two cities:Buda on the western side of the Danube and Pest on the eastern side. The two cities were combined(合并) in 1873. Buda has many places of interest and fairytale castles, while Pest is busy, with many cafes, restaurants and places for night life.
Hungary makes good use of its location and beautiful capital. That is probably why it became the first European country to join China for the Belt and Road Initiative. In the future, teamwork between the two countries will include the building of railways, power grids and the Internet. That will help increase(增大) China's connections to Europe greatly.
"We need to rebuild the Silk Road, connecting the world from the east to the west,"said Zoltán Balog, Hungary's human resources minister.
Hungary is a landlocked country. It doesn't have sea coasts. But the country has many natural hot springs(温泉). In fact, Hungary has more hot springs than anywhere else in Europe.
The fog(雾) was thick. As we walked deep into the forest, it was difficult to know where we were going and when we would get out. Our hearts were full of fear, but we had to keep going. The forest seemed to be endless. We were lost in the middle of a dark black forest with nothing to drink or eat.
I felt hard to breathe. My knees went weak and it seemed that I was falling down. As a result, I fainted.
I finally woke up when Emily hit me in the face. Both Emily and Mike gave me a worried look. They helped me sit up against the tree. The three of us kept silent. Suddenly we heard the wolves (狼) growl far away. It was hard to tell who was more scared. The looks on my friends' faces made me feel very scared. Which was the right way out?
We sat there for two more minutes and then moved on. Suddenly, a wolf appeared in front of us. It gave us a quick look and ran away. We felt so scared that we had to move on without a rest. To our excitement, there was an old house in the opposite direction. When we reached the house, smoke was rising from the chimney(烟囱). There must be someone in the house. We knocked, but no one answered. We knocked again, and then we heard someone walking towards the door. A kind young woman opened the door and let us in. How lucky we were!
Many Chinese people will wonder what presents to get for their moms on Mother's Day, but not many know Mother's Day is actually a festival from overseas.
Mother's Day originated(起源)in America during the early 20th century.
Why did a foreign festival become popular in China? In fact, Chinese traditional culture has always encouraged filial(孝顺的) devotion to parents. For example, the story of "Taste Liquid(液体的) Medicine for Mother" tells us the filial virtue(美德) of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty. His mother had been sick for three years. He often stayed up by her bedside and looked after her day and night. Also, mother's love is a repeated subject in Chinese ancient poems, like "Song of the Parting Son" by Meng Jiao, a poet of the Tang Dynasty.
On special days, people often use roses or forget-me-nots to express love. Carnations are the perfect flowers for mothers around the world, but few know that China has its own for mothers—the tiger lily.
Love for mothers can have different ways of expression. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love from their children.
A. All the mothers love their children. B. The festival spread to China as early as the 1980s. C. What matters most is love, not the festival itself. D. Now this poem is still a must in the school textbooks. E. He tasted the liquid medicine first before she drank it. F. There are many stories which show filial respect in ancient China. |
If you ask me to tell you how to get along in the United States, I think the following "dos" and "don'ts" would be (help).
Generally speaking, it isn't easy to find someone to talk to in a busy city, you should try to do the following. First, get or borrow a dog! Watch it several (time) a day! Americans love dogs and usually stop to talk to anyone about a dog. Then try to eat in a restaurant. People generally share same table and will sometimes talk to you if they see you are new there. Next, take your dirty clothes to a laundry! It takes about an hour to wash and dry (they). People there often spend the time (talk) with each other and at last learn to say "Please" "Thank you" and "You're welcome". And use them all the time.
There are some things you shouldn't do. Don't tell the (true) when people ask, "How are you?" The only answer they want is "Fine". Never ask people their ages—especially women! Everyone wants (keep) young. Don't tell strong people they are fat. Tell them they are losing weight. Everyone wants to be thin. Don't be late. When someone (say) six o'clock, be sure to be there by six. Americans respect time and want everyone to be "on time".
Each child is the coming of the Spring Festival.
