One of the best ways to get to know someone is to just say hello. This may seem like a usual method( 方 式 ),1 saying hello to someone is different from country to country, and even from area to area in the same country. In the United States, people2 other people informally(非正式地)for the most part. Saying hello tells you a lot about the person you are3 , and it also tells that person something about you. Typical greetings are "hello, good day, good morning, good afternoon or good evening". All of these greetings can be4 informal greetings that are commonly understood in the United States.
Some of the more informal greetings have been changed greatly from person to person. Younger people have created their own slang( 俚 语 )for greeting5 and the slang is constantly changing. For example, the greeting "what's happening" was very6 during the 1970s and 1980s, and it is still in use today, but it has been replaced( 代 替 )by several other greetings by the younger. "What's up" can be often heard in the US among7 people. These two greetings are considered informal greetings that a person should8 use in a formal setting. These are usually used for informal en- counters(相遇)and are usually said among friends.
When a person says9 to another person, it says a lot about that person. It shows a friendly attitude and the willingness to get to know the other person. It can mean that the person starting the 10 is someone who is outgoing. If the greeting is accompanied(伴随)by a smile, it is all the better.

Imagine that you are thinking about how to learn a new skill in your classroom. In which way would you learn this skill best? Listening to an expert explain how to use the skill? Or reading a book about the new skill?
Mainly, there are three kinds of learners: visual(视觉的), auditory(听觉的)and reading/writing.
Visual learners need to see the teachers' body language and expressions in order to fully understand the lesson. They may learn the best from videos and pictures in textbooks. If this is your kind of learning, draw pictures instead of writing words down when you make word cards. This may help you learn better.
Auditory learners can learn as effectively( 有 效 地 )by listening as visual learners. This kind of learning style depends on listening to conversations, hearing a teacher explain the lesson or using tapes to remember English words. If you are this kind of learner, record your teacher's class and listen to it later. It's more useful for reading / writing learners to read the text. These people enjoy spending time reading all kinds of books and then writing their thoughts. If you like this way, you can review notes or do writing exercises to remember information better.

Social phobia(社交恐惧症)seems to have been common these days. Many young people describe themselves as having "social phobia". But is this a real illness?
In fact, this is just a reaction(反应)to certain social situations. US researcher Ty Tashiro wrote a book that explains that some people don't "read" social situations correctly so they end up feeling uncomfortable. As a result, they start to act embarrassedly because they don't want this to happen. This might make them find it hard to so- cialize or refuse to do so. They gradually prefer to stay in instead of going out to meet new people.
"Real" social phobia can be described as social anxiety disorder(社交焦虑症)and it is much more serious. People with social anxiety disorder want to go out and communicate with people, but they are so afraid of doing it that they cannot leave their homes. And they may experience panic attacks(恐慌).
Some people simply use self-help books to help themselves get more control over their minds. Those who have more serious cases of social anxiety disorder can take medicine.
A Luckily, social anxiety disorder can be treated. B.But this doesn't mean they have socia1 phobia. C.For example, they might be afraid of breaking some kind of unspoken rule. D. They prefer not to go out much, and it's hard for them to make new friends. E. They should overcome their fears and learn to stay calm in the face of strangers. F.Their brains simply won't allow them to communicate with others in a normal way. |
Canival (狂欢节).s one of the most important national holidays in Brazil. It is not held to celebrate a big historical event, but it is a time of friendship and freedom (自由).Besides this, it's also a time when Brazilians don't have to work. People can choose to hold parties or just have a good rest instead. Most people hold parties, day after day, night after night. There is a forty-day period called Lent(四月斋)before Easter. During that period, Christians(基督教徒)can't eat meat or take part in any activities.
Carnival is held during the four days before the start of Lent. People put on their holiday clothes and go out to enjoy themselves. Also, some dance schools often hold activities to show their dance. Many people enjoy this festival. After Carnival, everything returns to the normal state, but this custom isn't followed by some people. They always continue their parties. Like at other parties, these people sing, dance and have fun. However, some people are not happy with this behavior and they feel it leaves a bad image of the holiday. I like Carnival. It's a time for people from all over the world to be to- get her and understand each other better. It's a wonderful holiday and I hope more people will respect it.
