At the same time, other family members will be busy6 a meal for you. Chinese people treat their guests7 a big meal. They always prepare more food than the guests can eat. On the table, the guests must be the8 to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a(n)9 guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for guests, which won't happen at western tables. Tea and coffee are two of the most popular drinks in the world, However, people usually like one more than the other. These drinks also have very different uses.
Tea drinking started in China over 4,000 years ago. Tea is made from leaves. These days, some people drink tea for health. using it to help with stress or losing weight. However, most people in tea-drinking countries think of tea as more than just a healthy drink. In fact, tea drinking in some countries is a part of the culture. In Turkey, tea is always there when people meet. Whether in someone's home or a company, tea is always offered as a way of welcoming. In the UK, homes and offices usually have tea time. Tea and other dishes are served at tea time in the afternoon. It is a way of relaxing with friends.
Coffee came much later than tea, just over 1,000 years ago. Coffee is made from beans (豆). Something in the coffee beans makes a person feel active. Most people do not drink coffee to relax. Instead, they drink coffee to get going. Many people drink coffee in the morning to help them wake up. Others will also drink coffee during short breaks in the afternoon to keep going through the working day. Some people may visit coffee shops just to meet and talk with friends. However, many people in coffee shops drink coffee while working on their computers.
Is tea or coffee more common in your country? Between the two. which do you like to drink more?
It's necessary to start a small talk sometimes. Here are 5 steps you can try to follow.
STEP 1: Talk with everyone you meet for the first time — waiters, people you're standing in line with, neighbors and kids. Make yourself get into small talk situations — doctors' waiting rooms, parties and bus stops.
STEP 2: Read everything — cookbooks, newspapers, magazines, maps and signs. Everything gives you information that you can talk about with others. Look for topics about everything — television, music, sports, fashion and art, All of them are good topics (主题) for a talk.
STEP 3: Talk to yourself in the mirror — see what you have to say on the subjects, baseball, Russia, butter, shoes… Make a list of them. The more different. the better. Write down things that interest you — funny stories you hear. beautiful things you see, shopping lists and calls you make.
STEP 4: Be a better listener — Did your co-worker (同情) just say she took her vacation in Europe? Did your neighbor just have twins? These are chances for making a small talk.
STEP 5: Try something new every day — Go home in a new way. Try new food. Go online. All these give you active ideas, and more important, an active lifestyle.
Believe in yourself. The more you know, the more you can talk about.
Love is not a simple feeling. Although we love our family and friends, sometimes we just don't know how to show our love to them. In fact, people give love in different ways. Each way can be called a "love language".
First, offering praise. Praise means attention and care. "You've done a good job." "These shoes look nice on you."… Such praise will make others happy.
A gift means "I care about you." The gift does not have to be expensive. Perhaps a piece of chocolate is OK.
Third, spending time together. Have a relaxing time and do things we all enjoy. Don't be busy all the time. Have a picnic with the family.
Fourth, being a good listener. When someone is down. what he wants is our understanding. Don't talk about ourselves too much.
These love languages help us to express love. They also make us understand love from others.
A. This kind of language uses words to show love. B. Or visit grandparents to talk to them. C. Second, giving gifts. D. Be ready to listen and try to understand. E. Here are some love languages. |
Once upon a time, there was a boy who was out playing on the beach with his friends. While they were playing, the boy found a stone which looked strange. It wasn't the same as other stones. It was a little bit shining. But it was quite dirty. The boy took the stone home because he wanted to polish it.
His friends felt surprised and they asked, "Why are you polishing that ugly stone?", but the boy didn't reply. From then on, when they went out to play, the boy would take the stone with him. He would polish it whenever he had a rest.
This went on for some time. Then one day, the boy played with his friends as usual. He had a surprise for them. When he showed the stone to them, they were amazed. It was, in fact, not a common stone at all. It was a beautiful diamond (钻石). The boy had been polishing it until it was completely clean and bright.
In our lives, there will be times when people try to discourage (使泄气) us. The best thing we can do is to continue to work towards our goals. We can turn a rough stone into a diamond. This story tells us that anything is possible if we go for it.
