Hi, I'm Liu Han. I am in Xinhua Middle School in Jilin. In my school, music is not just for people who play an instrument. It is for everyone. We believe music is an important part of life and that everyone should have the right (权利) to enjoy it.
We have music lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Not everyone plays an instrument but everyone wants to learn a little bit about music. During our lessons, we learn about musicians like Beethoven and Schumann. We listen to their music and learn about their personal (个人) history.
Everyone can take part in the concerts in my school! Teachers give their students some percussion instruments (打击乐器) that are easy to play. A few friends of mine don't play music. But they played these percussion instruments well for our concert. One of my friends said, "I felt like I was a star performer. It made me feel confident (自信) in front of people."
We have many other musical activities. For example, last month, I took part in the Young Musician of the Year Competition this year. I played the piano and won the first prize.
Most people like to have friends who like to do the same things as them. Some people don't mind it. .
When you smile (微笑), people think you are friendly and easy to talk to. It may not be easy at first to smile, but remember most people will stay away from a scared or angry looking face.
One easy way to start a conversation (对话) with someone is to say something nice about him. It makes you want to keep talking to that person, doesn't it?
Who's their favorite singer, where do they live, what do they do after school are all good questions to start a conversation. Make sure you have something to add to the conversation, too. When someone asks you a question, answer them seriously. A shrug (耸肩) for an answer is quicker to stop a conversation than anything.
Most kids want to make friends with people who show an interest in other kids. They also like to be around people who are kind to them. .
A. Remember the two points, you will make good friends. B. Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. C. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. D. The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. E. Ask your new friends questions about themselves. |
A duck is very sad because he looks different from all the other ducks. They don't want to play with him and they think he is very ugly. But when he grows up, he is surprised to find himself a handsome young swan (天鹅)! This is the story of The Ugly Duckling by Danish (丹麦) writer Hans Christian Andersen.
In fact, Andersen was an "ugly duckling" himself. In 1805, he was born in a poor family in Odense, Denmark. As a young boy, Andersen was tall, ugly and had a very big nose. His friends always made fun of his big nose.
Later, because of his father's death. Andersen had to make a living (谋生) by himself. He had a hard life and tried different kinds of jobs. For example, he once worked as a dressmaker and made money in a theater. The difficulties helped him to write. He started writing in the year 1832 and wrote many famous fairy tales such as The Emperor's New Clothes and so on. He kept writing for 43 years, till the end of his life in 1875. In his life, he finished 168 works and we can read them in about 150 languages. They never stop bringing happiness to kids around the world.
