In learning English, you should pay attention to listening and speaking first. You'd better1 your best to speak while you do much listening. Don't be2 of making mistakes, because they can help you improve your3 . It is a good4 to keep a diary and take notes while you are learning English. Then if you can, ask others to go through5 you have written and tell you where it is wrong. Many mistakes in your speaking will be6 found when you write. Through correcting mistakes, you can do better in learning English.
If you aren't good at speaking, don't7 about it, one of the helpful ways is reading. The important thing is to choose8 interesting to read. It mustn't be too difficult for you. When you are reading9 this way, don't stop to10 the new words if you can guess their meanings, maybe they have nothing to do with the sentences. You can do that some other time.
Some top students are giving some suggestions that can help you do well on the exam.
When taking tests, relax and believe yourself. Worrying can make you fail the test. If you study hard and get ready for it well enough, then you are sure to get a high grade. Bill, Canada |
If you remember the most important advice, it is very simple to get good grades. Do what your teacher says, listen carefully in class, practice more and act cool. Lily, America |
Write good notes. Colored pens can be used if you take notes, use them only for sections of your notes that you feel will be on a test or that are important. It makes them stand out. Go over your notes before you take the exams. Betty, Britain |
In order to get good grades, try to do your homework immediately after school. Time management is important. If you're told to do the homework, just do it as soon as possible. Before you start, you'd better make clear what to do and how to do it. Tom, Australia |
Dear Mom and Dad,
The time has come, I'm graduating, and I thank you both for your help during these 15 years. I still remember when you used to say, You can do whatever you want." I'm so glad you are my parents, especially when I hear my classmates say they don't get on well with their parents. I'm glad that you support me when I decide to do anything.
Dad, I remember when you first took me to go fishing. I loved going fishing even though I never caught anything. I also remember when you would get angry with me. I realize you were only trying to show me the right way. When I would cry, you would always be there to cheer me up. That's what I call a good, loving, caring Dad.
Sometimes you and Mom don't agree with me, but you are always there by my side, and that's why I love you both so much.
Mom, I enjoy going out with you and having our happy time every Friday night, and I hope that never changes. I love telling you everything, the best part about you is that you listen. I'm glad that we do a lot together. You love to have fun, and dad does, too. You always give me advice and I listen. Thank you for bringing me up.
Love always,
Alice
At the end of a writing class
I asked the students to share what they had written. We had a new student at the school, whose name was Johnson. Johnson had been with us for only a short while and was still trying to fit in, so I was a little surprised when he volunteered to read his writing in class. I asked him to read, but inside I wished that the other students would not laugh at him.
Johnson began to read, "If I had one wish, it would be to meet my dad..." He started out loudly and clearly. He told how he had never seen his father. He told how he tried to be the only man in the house at such a young age.
I took a look at the students. I knew some kids liked to laugh at others. However, all of my students were listening. They were letting him do this I thought. They were allowing him to share something.
"If I had one wish, it would be to meet my dad, so I wouldn't have to close my eyes every night just wondering what he looks like," Johnson finished. The class stood up and applauded(鼓掌). They all ran to Johnson with hugs. My eyes got wet.
This is why I teach. I teach because I can watch kids grow and laugh and learn and love.
Are you under stress? Everyone may feel stressed sometimes. You feel stressed when you have lots of work to do but don't have enough time to do it. You can also feel stressed when you have problems. Sometimes, a little stress might be good. But usually, too much stress is not good for you.
Too much stress can cause health problems. Stress can make it hard to sleep well and you may feel tired. Things may easily go wrong when you are under stress. If you have a health problem, stress can make it worse.
There are some measures you can use to deal with stress correctly.
First, you can talk to your parents or a friend about your feelings. Talking about stress may help you understand it. Second, keeping a diary can take away the problem that is making you feel stressed. Third, exercise is also a good way to help with stress. Different exercises, like playing sports or walking, can help you relax. Finally, be sure that you're taking care of yourself. Getting enough sleep and eating the right kinds of food are all important.
If you feel that you have too much stress, try the ways above. They may help you.
What will the world of tomorrow look like? New technology may solve many difficult problems, but it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages, as these three examples.
Many of us think that we will go somewhere by flying car in the future. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if the cars become popular, there will be problems with traffic control.
3D printing is another new technology for the future. It is already widely used, such as models of car parts, man-made ears. In the future, it will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that it is very expensive.
Finally, people are trying to build a robot suit(套装). This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness. However, one disadvantage is expensive, too.
Looking ahead, it is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve before all of this is possible, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people's life easier and safer. It can solve the most difficult problems we have today.

Li Hua is my new friend. She is from China while I am from Canada. Yesterday, she (invite) me to have dinner at her home.
After she opened the door for me, we greeted each other by (kiss)on the face. When I entered the house, I saw old dinner table. It was full of dishes. They were totally different what I usually ate at home. I had never tasted Chinese food. That was my first try. During the meal, I found that they ate (quiet), even when drinking soup with their spoons! Li Hua told me it's impolite to make noise during the meal. Later, she showed me to use chopsticks. I tried many times. Finally I picked up a piece of chicken on my (five) try! I felt excited! These meals were (great)than what I ate at home. I really enjoyed (I).
After dinner, I thanked Li Hua for teaching me some Chinese table (manner) and her family offered me such delicious Chinese food!

Dear Li Hua,
How are you doing? You just had your Mid-Autumn Festival and National Holiday, didn't you? What did you do? Was it fun?
I am getting more and more interested in your culture and I want to go to China to learn Chinese. Although I have learned a little pinyin (拼音), I still can't read many Chinese words. Can you offer one or two good ways to learn Chinese?
Hope to see you soon.
Yours,
Ben
