I sat with my friend in a famous coffee shop in a town of Italy. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat beside us. He called the waiter over, saying, "Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the 1 . " We heard his order with 2 and noticed that he was served (端上) with one cup of coffee, 3 he paid for two. When he left, the waiter put a piece of paper on the wall saying "A Cup of Coffee".
While we were still there, two other men entered and 4 three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had two but paid for 5 . This time also, the waiter did the same thing. It was 6 unusual for us.
After a few days, we had a chance to enter this coffee shop again.
While we were enjoying our coffee, a man who seemed 7 entered. He looked at the wall and said, "One cup of coffee from the wall. " The waiter served a cup of 8 to this man. The man had his coffee and left without 9 .
We were amazed to watch all of this as the waiter 10 a piece of paper from the wall and threw it into the bin.
Now it was very 11 . The people of this town showed great respect (尊重) for those people who needed help. Just think about what this man wanted. He didn't have to lose his face to 12 for a(n) 13 cup of coffee. 14 asking or knowing who gave him this cup of coffee, he only looked at the wall, placed an order, 15 his coffee and left.
It's a truly beautiful thing and that may be the most beautiful wall in the world.

"Class, this is John Evans," Mrs. Parmele introduced him to us, trying to give him a warm welcome. We saw a boy in old clothes. John looked around and smiled, hoping somebody would smile back. Nobody did. He kept on smiling anyway. I held my breath as Mrs. Parmele looked around the classroom, hoping she wouldn't notice the empty desk next to mine. She did, and pointed him at that desk. He looked over at me as he sat down, but I looked away.
By the end of his first week, John was at the bottom of our class. I told my mother one evening at dinner,"He even doesn't know how to count. " However,as I ate lunch with him the next day and listened to him, I realized that it was pleasant to be with him. After lunch, I decided that I would be John's friend.
One night, as Mother came into my bedroom, I said,"Mom,tomorrow is John's birthday, and he's not going to get anything. Nobody cares. " "Don't worry," Mom said as she kissed me goodnight. "I'm sure everything will be fine. "
I wished John a happy birthday in the morning, and his smile showed me that he was glad I had remembered. By mid-afternoon I had almost decided that birthdays weren't that important. Then, as Mrs. Parmele was writing on the blackboard,I heard a familiar voice singing the birthday song. I looked up and saw Mother coming through the door with a tray of cupcakes and a present in her hand. Mrs. Parmele also joined in. Mother found John looking like a rabbit in car headlights. She put the cupcakes and the gift on John's desk and said, "Happy birthday, John. " John stood there with his mouth open, unable to believe what was happening. While John happily shared his cupcakes with the class, taking the tray from desk to desk, I caught Mother watching me and she smiled.
John Evans moved away soon, and I never heard from him again. But I always remember the happiness in a boy's eyes, and the taste of the sweetest cupcake.

Ancient people seem to have wild imagination of rain. In the English-speaking countries, it's common to hear "rain cats and dogs" or "rains dollars from heaven". While in China, we also welcome the Grain Rain (谷雨) every year.
Grain Rain is the sixth of the 24 Solar Terms (节气) in the traditional Chinese calendar, which starts from April 20 this year. Its name means "rain produces hundreds of grains". For thousands of years, farmers see the solar term as an important guidance (指引) for their activities of agriculture (农业).
As the last solar term in spring, this period sees the temperature rise and rain increase, creating a wonderful environment for the growth of grains. Today, Grain Rain is still relevant to modern agriculture. For farmers, it is a good time to grow things.
It might be less known that a real "grain rain" was recorded in the story of Cang Jie, a four-eyed man who invented the first Chinese words.
Around 2500 BC, in order to keep records more correctly, Cang Jie created a set of words by watching the activities of animals. After the invention, grains started to fall down from the sky.
Though it is hard to know whether the story of Cang Jie is true, the Grain Rain Day became a day to honor Cang Jie as well as the invention of the Chinese language. In Shaanxi and Henan provinces, local people will hold activities to honor him.
Because of the story, April 20 has been chosen as the UN Chinese Language Day since 2010 by the United Nations. It is around the Grain Rain Day, which falls between April 19—21.
