Andy was throwing an empty box when a woman and her daughter ran over.
"You smell1 !"Andy said to the woman.
The woman said, "I just want you to2 me the box. It's how my daughter and I survive (生存)""But it's just trash (垃圾), ""said Andy.
"One person's trash is another person's3 , " the woman said, reaching out her hand, "Can I have it?"
4 you want it, just take it out of the trash bin by yourself," Andy replied5 . Then he threw the box and walked towards his mother's car. The woman didn't say anything and took the box.
Andy told his mother about the dirty woman. His mother said in a6 voice, "Andy, not everyone has good7 . Your father left us when you were two years old. We lived a hard life. I couldn't find a8 , so we had to live on the streets. One day, I met a lady and she9 me to make money by recycling boxes. I10 her suggestion and our life changed after that. "
Hearing this, Andy got out of the car and11 to the lady. "I am sorry for what I did. You're right. One person's trash is another person's treasure. "Then his mother came over and was12 to find the woman was just the lady who helped them out of trouble a few years ago. She said to the woman with 13 , "You did so much for us. It's my turn to14 you. I would like you and your daughter to come and stay with us. "The girl and her mother were moved to tears.
There are always some people who give us unexpected15 . So wherever we are, be kind to people around us.
Many years ago, I was the owner of a service station and roadhouse(路边旅馆) on the main road to California.
One very cold, wet night at about 3:30 a. m, there was a knock on the front door of our house. A young man, wet from head to foot, explained that he had run out of petrol (汽油)about 30 km up the road. He had left his wife and his two children behind at the car and said he would go back,
After I had filled a can(罐) with petrol,I took him back to his car where his two-year-old and four-year-old children were both crying, saying that they were cold and hungry. I suggested that he follow me back when his car started again.
Before leaving, I had turned the heater (加热器) on in the roadhouse, so that when we went in, it was nice and warm, While the little ones played and ran around, I prepared bread and butter for the children and hot chocolate for the adults.
It was about 5 a. m. before they left. The young man asked me how much he should pay me and I told him that the petrol was $15. He offered to pay more for the" call-out service", but I didn't accept it.
About a month later, I received a letter from a large bus company. We had been trying to get the bus company to stop off at our roadhouse for a long time. To my surprise, its owner was just the young man 1 had helped.
In his letter, he thanked me again and told me that, from then on, all their buses would stop at my service station. In this case, a little bit of kindness was returned with a lot more.
If you feel stressed at school, what can you do to make yourself happier? Some may eat their favorite food or listen to some music. Others may go for a walk or get some exercise. Anew study found another great way to lower students' stress-playing with dogs.
Scientists studied 105 students between the ages of eight and nine. 35 trained dogs and their trainers also took part in the test. The children were divided into 3 groups. The students in the first group spent 20 minutes with a dog and its trainer. They watched the trained dogs per form and even played with them. They did this twice a week for 4 weeks. The second group spent the same amount of time(时长) doing exercise to relax. The last group did neither of these things.
During this time, the scientists recorded the students' cortisol levels (皮质醇水平). Cortisol is a stress hormone(激素). The more stressed you feel, the more cortisol you will have in your body. What did the scientists find? Both the second and third groups showed rises in cortisol levels. The first group, however, showed no big increase. And the children in this group had the lowest cortisol levels right after playing with the dogs.
According to the study, students enjoy playing with dogs, and it helps them become happier. The stress hormone falls over time this way, which is good for students' health. But here comes the next question; Is 20 minutes of playtime with a dog the best amount of time? Scientists are going to keep working to find out the answer.
I'm Nancy. Do you remember the name of your kindergarten (幼儿园) teacher? I do. Her name was Mrs. White. And 1 remember I thought she must be a sister of Snow White, because she had the same bright blue eyes, short dark hair and fair skin as her.
I don't remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and see there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections(改正) , and always a star. Sometimes even a Good, which would make me fly with happiness. So one day when my mother went to meet Mrs. White for one of those parent-teacher meetings, she asked her why she never corrected my mistakes in the right spellings of words or pointed out grammatical mistakes.
"The children are just beginning to get excited about using words and forming (形成)sentences. I don't want my students to lose interest because of red ink(墨水). Spelling and grammar can wait, the wonder of words won't . . " Mrs. White said.
Later I knew that if Mrs White had used her red pen often, I probably wouldn't be telling you about this now. I look back now and think she must have been a rather unusual teacher to use as less red pen as possible.
l used to misspell(拼错)"baeutiful"a lot, and could never remember that the "e" goes before the "a". It made my teacher in high school angry. She asked me to use ""pretty" when I was writing. I didn't listen to her. To my eyes, "pretty" is easier to spell, but it doesn't hold as much as we can sometimes.
And thanks to Mrs. White, I never worried about writing what I meant even if I couldn't quite spell it out, because life isn't "pretty". It's "beautiful".
a. Nancy did badly in her schoolwork.
b. Nancy's mother understood what Mrs. White had done.
c. Nancy would never mind misspelling to express herself.
d. Mrs. White explained why she never corrected Nancy's mistakes.
e. Nancy's high school teacher was not satisfied with her for misspelling.

Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their time.
In fact, happiness is always around you you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friend will help you; when you get success, your friend will cheer for you. And when you do good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your. When you are, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet , you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you can't say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转的) door. When it closes, it also . If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

It was a cold January morning. A man sat at a subway station in Washington DC and started to play the violin. When the musician played, thousands of people went through the station, but most of them didn't stop.
A few minutes went by and a middle-aged man noticed there was a musician playing music. He slowed down and stopped for a few seconds and then he walked away hurriedly. Four minutes after he played the violin, the violinist received his first tip. A woman threw the money in the violin case without stopping and continued to walk.
In the musician's 45-minute performance, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk. He collected $32 in all. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it.
No one knew the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. Two days before his playing at the subway station, the tickets for Joshua Bell's performance were sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats each cost 100 dollars.
Joshua Bell's playing in the subway station was a social experiment. It asks questions: in a common environment at a wrong hour, do we enjoy beauty? Do we stop to make a response(反应)? If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music, how many things are we missing? So don't miss the wonderful moment in life!
