Yesterday I read a report about a charity show (慈善晚会) in a local newspaper. The aim (目标) of1 show was to raise money for the poor children. In the poor areas, some children were out of school because their parents couldn't2for their education.
Many pop stars3part in the charity show. They did it for free! There were a lot of performances 4singing and dancing. The audience (观众) were so5that they clapped their hands from time to time. Of course, the show was6.
Many people followed the stars' example. They showed their generosity (慷慨) by7their money to the show. Both the ticket money and the donated money were soon sent to the poor children in poor areas8them go back to school.
Now many charity shows are held in our country, not only to support the education in poor areas, 9 also to help people in trouble. As a Chinese saying goes, "All the others will come to one's rescue (援助) when one is in trouble. "
I hope the whole world10better and better.
Everyone wants to have healthy teeth. When you laugh, you will1 your mouth and show your teeth. The healthier your teeth are, the2you will feel. Why is that?
It's because your teeth are important in many ways. Take care of them, and they'll help to3you. Strong and healthy teeth help you grow. They also help you speak4. You can take care of your teeth by doing like these:5your teeth twice a day, after getting up and before bedtime. And make sure you brush all of your teeth, not just the front ones. 6some time on the sides and the back of your teeth. Take your time while brushing. Spend 7three minutes each time you brush.
Be sure your toothbrush is soft. Ask your parents to help you get a new toothbrush every three months. Clean between your teeth with dental floss (牙线). It feels strange when you do it at first, but soon you'll get used to doing it. Brushing8your teeth healthy. You also need to9about what you eat and drink. Eat lots of fruit and10and drink water instead of drinks.
More and more people join us to be volunteers to help others. Here are some of their working experiences they'd like to share.
Mabel, 18 | I volunteered my time in the kids' summer camp from July 12 to July 22. I felt happy because kids were so lovely that I just liked spending time with them. And I think it's important to teach them how to look after themselves. |
Nelly, 19 | From July 15 to July 31, I volunteered my time to help the old people in the old people's home. I often talked to them so that they didn't feel lonely. When I read newspapers for them, they listened carefully and sometimes it reminded them of their past. Old people do need a lot of care. |
David, 18 | I like to work outside. So every Sunday in August, I took part in the City Park Clean-up. We picked up the rubbish in the park and planted trees there. Though I felt tired, I was happy because I helped make the park cleaner and greener. |
James, 17 | I am a student. I love books. Books are my best friends. What I like most is swimming in the sea of knowledge. So I chose to work for the City Library in August. I helped to put the books in order. |
Susan started to work in a zoo three years ago. There are about 150 dangerous animals in the zoo, like lions and tigers. Her family persuaded(说服) her to give up this job because there was great danger, but Susan held her idea.
Susan got special training (培训) in working with these dangerous animals before she started her job. Early every morning she gives them food and during the day she takes visitors around the zoo. After that, she cleans the cages. Six other people do the same work.
Fariq, a six-year-old tiger, lives in a cage. On 19th August, Susan went in to clean his cage as usual. She was getting ready to leave when Fariq walked to her. Suddenly, Fariq ran to bite her leg! Susan knew her life was in danger, but she didn't panic. She knew she had to do something to save her own life. She shouted and tried to open the tiger's mouth. After a few minutes the tiger opened his mouth and Susan was able to get out of the cage.
Outside the cage, other workers helped Susan. She lost a lot of blood from her leg. She was taken to hospital quickly and had to stay there for a few weeks.
Now Susan can walk again, and she really wants to get back to work. "That might seem crazy, but I'm so happy when I'm with animals," she says. She has never thought about leaving the zoo. For Susan, working with dangerous animals is the best job in the world.
John's mobile phone didn't work this morning because it was short of electricity. After checking it, he found something wrong with the battery. He had to buy a new one and throw the old one away. Tim will graduate from university. He has some useful books which helped him to pass the exams. But now they are not valuable to him. He wants to give them away to others. Betty was born in a rich family. She can buy any clothes she likes from shops. But she never wears them more than three times. She thinks it is a kind of waste. So she wants to give them away to the people who need them. Jacky is fond of drinking a bottle of beer each meal. Now he has collected many beer bottles. He hopes to make more money by selling them. Lucy's sofa was broken last week. Today she bought a new set of sofa. She has no room for the old sofa and she would like to find a place to put it. |
A. Don't throw your old bottles here and there. You should put them into the dustbins around you. Remember not to break the bottles, or they may hurt you or the cleaners who collect them. B. This is the school library. You are allowed to do some reading here. If you have some books which you don't need, you can give them away to us. We'll be thankful for your kindness. C. If you have old furniture(家具) you don't need, you can give it away to the charity. Maybe someone else needs it. Don't throw it into the rubbish station. D. In our waste collecting shop, you can sell all the things you don't need, such as old newspapers, paper bags and bottles. We will offer you some money for your old things. E. The batteries can do great harm to the earth where you throw them. They will pollute the earth for a long time. So, don't throw your old batteries everywhere. Just put them into a certain dustbin so that cleaners can deal with them easily. F. This dustbin is set here for the visitors to throw their rubbish, especially something that can be recycled. Batteries and something like them are not allowed to throw here. G. We are a public service organization. Now it is cold winter. We don't have enough clothes to keep warm. If you have any clothes you don't need, please send them to us. We will be very thankful for your help. |
Nowadays, many students complain about the pressure they had in their study and life. They have tomuch time studying at school. They always feel tired after schoolthey have lots of homework to do. However, parents think that's not enough. They send their children to differentof after-school classes. They think their children can learn more and besuccessful in the future.
The parents don't let the students do anything at. They think it's parents' job to provide a clean and comfortable environment for their children. So these days children dependtheir parents too much. But students don't think the same. They think they need time to relax and think for themselves. It's not enough to just good grades at school. They like to hang out with friends.
They love toTV at home instead of going to after-school classes. Parents, of course, never let them spend time doing these things, many students have problems communicating with their parents. They now can't get on welltheir parents easily. They even argue with their parents. Can you help them? I think being a healthy child is more important than being a successful one.
