As a volunteer teacher, I traveled a long way to a village school in Longzhou, Guangxi. On my way there, I1 the school and the children there. "It must be new and big, flowers are everywhere," I said to myself.2 I got so upset when I arrived there. It didn't look like a school at all! How small! And there were only 3 rooms! One was for Grades 1, 2 and 3, one was for Grades 4, 5 and 6, the third one was for me.
The only comfort(安慰) was that the children welcomed me 4 on my first day. They asked me a lot of questions, and I told them stories about myself and my life in Shanghai. The next day, I gave them a test(测试). Tomy 5 , though the test was very 6 , over half of the students failed(不及格). But they all wanted to learn new things. I knew they 7 me.
Now I'm busy preparing lessons for them every night. I can see that they are doing better and better 8 my help. I learn a lot from them, too. I understand 9 lives better now, and we are good friends. I'm very happy, and the experience is 10 very useful for me. I love the small school and the children.

It's very usual in Shanghai to see people out walking their dogs. But it's not a common sight to see dogs out walking people. These "out walking people" dogs are special: they are guide dogs and their owners are blind.
Trained guide dogs in Europe and America have been used to help blind people for around 100 years, but it is a new thing in China. A guide dog training center was set up in Shanghai in 2007 and there were only about twenty working guide dogs in the city. There was a city law(法律) that pets and animals shouldn't walk in shops or hospitals. That's why many guide dogs and
their owners were not allowed when they went shopping or tried to take a bus. But guide dogs are not really pets. They are working dogs and their job is to help blind people walk.
Shanghai made a law in 2011: Guide dogs and their owners should be allowed to go to the shops or the hospitals. Blind people and their guide dogs are able to go into many shops now. But the law doesn't make a difference. Only by opening people's eyes and changing most people's attitudes(态度) can guide dogs and their owners go anywhere anybody else can go.
All of us live in one world. While we are eating food, drinking water, wearing clothes, watching TV, using computers and so on, we are producing waste every moment. When we finish reading a newspaper, the paper will become waste. When TV sets or computers are broken, they will become electronic waste.
Plastic bags are often used in our everyday life. The number of used plastic bags is increasing day by day. We like to use plastic bags because they are convenient. When we get home, we throw the plastics away. These are called "white pollution" as most plastics are white. Rubber is also common in our daily life. Many of our products are made of rubber, just like the tyres(轮胎) and the bottom part of our shoes. It's true that rubber plays an important role in our life. However, it also brings us some trouble when it has been used for a long time. The old rubber pollutes environment very badly because it can't break down easily in nature————it will stay unchanged for a long time. This is really a big problem all over the world.
Everyone should play a part in saving our world. For example, when we go shopping, we can bring cloth bags instead of plastic ones. And we should do something to recycle rubber. Our small actions can make a difference and lead to a better future.
247 graduate students of Fudan University have volunteered to teach the children in Xihaigu region(地区)of Ningxia for the past 22 years. The region used to be poor because of its terrible natural environment. "We expect to make a difference to the children's life by sharing our knowledge in different fields, " one of the volunteers says.
The students have different abilities, so the volunteers have used different teaching methods to help them develop good study habits. "Local children had never learned English before, so we started with basic knowledge like English letters and pronunciation, " says Li Lianshuo, a Fudan volunteer. The volunteers help the students remember English words, read articles and deal with their study problems.
"We visit the students' homes in our free time. We communicate with their parents so that we help the parents understand the importance of children's education, because the parents didn't care much about it years ago, " explains Yang Chenhaotong, who was the leader of the volunteer team in 2019. According to Yang, the parents give their children a lot of support in their studies now.
The volunteers have helped the local children with their studies. They have also set up football clubs and held many ball games to make the children's life colorful. Fudan University has also given away more than 10 million yuan to the region to build playgrounds(操场)and other buildings over the past 22 years.
"Thanks to my volunteer teacher, my life has changed a lot. I will study hard and become an excellent person like her, " Li Sumei, a local student, says excitedly.
