About 150 years ago, the French writer Jules Verne showed what the future would be like in some of his books. He once said, "Anything one man can imagine, other men can make it come true." Now, let's take a look at the future in the eyes of some scientists.
Underwater cities As the world's population increases, there's less space for us to build houses. So, it's believed that one day we could live underwater. By the year 2050, underwater cities could come out. These underwater buildings will be made of special materials. It is possible for us to make the rooms bigger or smaller. 3-D printed foods Many scientists believe that 3-D dishes will be the future of food. In the future, many kitchens may have a 3-D printer. And the best part is that 3-D printed foods can always have the same tastes as the recipes (配方). Flying cars Heavy traffic is a common problem today, and people have dreamed of flying cars. In the future, flying cars will be as common as bicycles. These flying cars will be something between a helicopter (直升机) and a plane. People will spend less time on traffic, probably cutting a 2-hour taxi ride into a 15-minute one. |
Shen Linglan, 13, used to know nothing about cooking. This was because she was so afraid of fire that she didn't even want to get close to the kitchen. But last month, sheconquered her fears and cooked her first dish一Dong Pork. "It was so tasty!" Shen said.
Shen was able to do this through "self- support" education (教育) in her school—Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School in Jiangsu. The school offers chances for students to learn practical skills. On October 15, it had a two-week trip to a "self-support education base". Nearly 100 students took part and learned basic life skills during the trip.
Since they were away from their parents, the students had to do everything on their own. Xu Ke, 13, learned to make the beds, wash clothes, clean rooms and cook. "All of these things made me more independent," Xu said. "I think it will help me a lot in the future when I go to college."
The students also got the chance to do some farm work. Xu had never seen a rice field before. "I was so excited to harvest (收割) the rice," Xu said. She also picked her own fruit. "We tasted the fruit we picked ourselves and experienced the happiness of the harvest," she said.
There were also other courses to improve students' life skills. Ling Desen, 13, chose a woodworking class and made a wood chair. He also learned how to make bread in a cooking class with the help of a Japanese cook. Some students learned car repair as well.

Everyone has his own hero. My favourite Greek hero is Odysseus is the main character inThe Odyssey. It's a famous story which was written the Greek storyteller, Homer.
Odysseus and his friends went from Greece to Troy to fight. After ten years, they won and were very of themselves. Then they set off for home, but on way home, they got lost because of a great storm. While they were travelling, they met many strange people. Most of them wanted to hurt Odysseus and his friends, a few helped them. On an island a very big man with only one eye tried to kill them. During this fight, Odysseus lost many of his friends, but he to get away. After ten more years on the way home, Odysseus got back to his own country alone. However, he looked different that his wife and son failed to recognize him. They didn't know who he was until Odysseus saved them from some bad.
I like this because it is very interesting and exciting. I also learn from Odysseus that great men never give up, no matter what they face.
Harbin is a city in rich history culture, which is located in the northeastern part of China. It's known for its freezing winters and winter wonderland. It attracts visitors from around the world every year. It broke the record of tourists in the New Year holiday of 2024. Wang Peng "It's my first time 1o visit Harbin Ice and Snow World. It's 600,000 square meters. It is the biggest Ice and Snow Theme Park in the world. The ice sculptures (雕像) here are amazing. Some are lively, and some are creative. The subjects of the ice sculpture are various, including history, culture, buildings, animals and plants. They are very excellent works." Zhao Minwei "I enjoy my stay here very much. It's a perfect place to taste some delicious food. Such as Harbin sausage, sweet and sour pork. Visitors can enjoy traditional Chinese performances, as well as Russian ballet (芭蕾) and music concerts." Zhang Li "In winter, the weather in Harbin is much colder than that in Guangdong. So when I planned to have a Harbin winter trip, I bought some coats, shoes, and hats to prevent the cold. But it's not a good idea to buy white clothes, because it's hard for others to find you on the road, especially when you play in the snow ground." |
