My childhood is of joy, anger and sorrow. I still remember one thing that 1 in the Junior Second.
I went to join in the Second National Maths Olympic competition of the youth maths program which was held in the Youth Palace.
When I2 the Youth Palace, I said to myself with confidence: "I can get the first prize, I can certainly." Before the examination, the teacher said to us, "You must be careful when you take the exam. You can't talk during the exam,3 you'll lose 10 points." What the teacher said made me a little4 .
As soon as the 5 rang, I began to answer the questions carefully. I was really afraid of making mistakes. Time flew, an hour and a half passed and I have finished it. While I was carefully 6 , my classmate asked me to pass a pen to another classmate in front of me. I handed it to her 7 thinking much. Anyone knew that it was just caught by the teacher. The teacher said that each person would lose 10 points. I tried to explain, but I 8 . I was really dumb eating Coptis (黄莲) has no 9 to say!
10 , I got home. I complained to my mother and I felt that the teacher was too much. Mom said: "The rules of the test room are like traffic rules, and all people must follow11 , whatever the reason is. Otherwise the12 are unthinkable. So would you like to see traffic accidents or a13 test room caused by irresponsible police or teachers?" I knew Mom was right.
After the test result14 , I only won the second prize, but I knew if I didn't speak in the test room and did not break the15 , I could get the first.
It has been a long time since then, but it taught me to obey the rules all the time. It will always be with my growth.

Today it snowed for the first time this winter, and school was cancelled. We were supposed to have a test in math, and I've been lazy ever since I became a Safety Patrol (安全巡逻员). So I was excited.
I called Rowley and told him to come over. We have been talking about building the world's biggest snowman for the past couple of years now.
And when I say the world's biggest snowman, I'm not joking. Our goal is to get into the "Guinness Book of World Records".
But every year we've got serious about going for the record, all the snow has melted (融化), and we've missed ourwindow of opportunity. So this year, I wanted to get started right away. When Rowley came over, we started rolling the first snowball to make the base. I thought the base was going to have to be at least eight feet tall on its own if we wanted to have a shot at breaking the record. But the snowball got very heavy, and we had to take a bunch of breaks in between rolls so we could catch our breath.
During one of our breaks, Mom came outside to go to the grocery store, but our snowball was blocking her car in. So we got a little free labour (劳动力) out of her.
After our break we pushed that snowball until we couldn't push it any further. But when we looked behind us, we saw the mess we had made.
The snowball had got so heavy that it tore up all the turf (草皮) Dad had just laid down last autumn.
I was hoping it would snow a few more inches and cover up our tracks, but just like that,it stopped snowing. Our plan to build the worlds' biggest snowman was starting to fall apart. So I came up with better idea for our snowball.
①Chinese calligraphy (书法) was once considered an important part of the school curriculum (课程). However, for many reasons, some people think it's less important to teach this art form at school now. In this article, I will look at both the pros and cons of learning Chinese calligraphy at school.
②One reason why Chinese calligraphy should be learned at school is that it is an important form of culture expression. Clearly, it is not just about practicing handwriting. It is also about connecting with a traditional Chinese art form. When students learn this art in class, they will become more interested in the works of famous Chinese artists.
③Another reason is that it may help students to develop patience. At the times of high technology, students are getting less patient for traditional classroom learning. By introducing Chinese calligraphy into the classroom, students' patience can be improved because they have to practice focusing on each brush movement.
④ ▲ . However, others think there are some disadvantages. The first one is that it has little to do with students' life. Living in a modern age, pens and paper will lose their importance by and by. So, wouldn't it be a backward step if students were asked to spend their valuable time at school learning Chinese calligraphy?
⑤The second argument against learning Chinese calligraphy at school is that it takes a long time to master. The time at school is better spent on more important subjects. After all, learning Chinese calligraphy can always be done as an after-school activity if students are really interested in it.
⑥In my opinion, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. This special art form is one of China's national treasures, It also helps to enrich students' life and improve their sense of beauty. So without doubt, it is worth being included in the school curriculum.
A group of scientists set out to estimate (估计) the number of ants on Earth. According to their research, there are about 2.5 million ants for every human on the planet. Then the scientists held 489 studies of ant populations.
The studies covered all kinds of habitats (住处) including cities, deserts and forests. The researchers find that most ants live in tropical (热带的) areas and that they are more commonly found in forests and dry areas than in human-made habitats. In addition, the scientists find that the population of ants is more than the number of all the world's wild birds and animals together.
The researchers say this number is a low estimate. This is because they did not have much information on how many ants live underground. Besides, there were not many trusted studies about how many ants live in certain parts of the world, like Africa.
Ants play very important roles in the environment. They help to spread seeds, help water reach plant roots, and are a kind of food for many living things. Patrick, who did this new estimate, said "I am sure the whole nature would simply break down without ants."
For checking their populations, it is useful to estimate how many ants there are. Then the scientists can see if they are becoming less because of harmful changes in the environment Worldwide, the number of insects, a group that includes ants, is becoming less. However, it is not clear if the number of ants is becoming less as well.
①There aren't many ants m forests. ② Scientists don't know how many ants in certain areas.
③The studies are mainly held in the cities. ④ The studies aren't sure about ants underground.
Thanks to improvements in both health care and personal safety, most people are living healthier, longer lives. Someone who is born today can expect to live 25 years longer than someone who was born in the 19th century. It's even thought that in the future more and more people will celebrate their hundredth birthday. Here are five rules for a healthy life.
We all know that we shouldn't run across the road in front of the oncoming traffic, or cycle too close to cars. But we're not sure about how to stay safe in the countryside. When you're out walking you should always go with someone and tell your parents where you're planning to go. Remember! Climbing may also mean felling—what goes up must come down. Safety rules and advice are there to help you, not to make life less fun.
Sure, it's comfortable to sit on the couch and watch. But experts say you should walk at least 10,000 steps everyday to keep fit. In the past, people's jobs required more physical effort When farmers were working in the fields they were keeping fit at the same time. Think about it: do you get the same amount of exercise today as they did in the past?
It's Important to eat plenty of the right things, above all, fruit, vegetables, and to see fast food or sweets as something very special-maybe just and then. The wrong diet means you'll put on weight, one of the fastest ways to an unhealthy life.
When we were babies, we slept for much of the day -if our parents were lucky! Teenagers don't need as much sleep but it's important to get about eight hours' sleep. At weekends, you've got more time, so use it not just for your friends, but for rest, too.
Yes, you knew I was going to say this! But it's so important. More teenagers damage their health through smoking and taking drugs than any other dangers. Think about the effect on your family and friends, and think about its effect on you and your health.
A. Don't worry. Be happy! B. Say no to smoking and drugs! C. Be careful! It's dangerous out there! D. Rest up while you can. E. Watch your diet! F. Don't be a couch potato! |
