"Do you like my dress?"she asked a passing stranger. "My mommy made it just for me,"she said with tears in her eyes.
"l think it's very pretty, but why are you crying?"
The girl answered in a low voice," Mommy passed away after making this dress for me. "
Finally the woman realized what the child meant,She gently held the child in her arms. Then suddenly the little girl stopped crying, stepped back and began to sing softly.▲After the child stopped singing, she explained to the lady,"My mommy sang that song to me before she went away, and she made me promise to sing it whenever I started crying and it would make me stop. "
"See,"she said,"it did,and now my eyes are dry !"
As the woman turned to go,the little girl stopped her. "Madam, can you stay just a minute? I want to show you something. "
"Of course," she answered.
Pointing to a spot on her dress, she said,"Right here is where my mommy kissed my dress,"pointing to another spot,"and here is another kiss, and here, and here. Mommy said that she put all those kisses there so that I would have her kisses for everything that made me cry. "
Then the lady realized that she wasn't just looking at a dress,No,she was looking at a mother who knew that she was going away and would not be there to kiss away the hurt that she knew her daughter would get. So she took all the love for her beautiful little girl and put it into this dress that her child now so proudly wore.
She no longer saw a little girl in a simple dress. She saw a child wrapped in her mother's love.
Have you ever unlocked a shared bike? Have you ever ordered a meal online? Have you ever enjoyed watching the short-form videos on the Internet? Well,if no one had invented the cell phone, none of these would have been possible.
Luckily, someone did invent the cell phone. That person is Martin Cooper, and he did that 51 years ago,in 1973.
Cooper used to work for Motorola. In the 1970s,the company was competing with AT8:T , a larger company, to make a cell phone system. Cooper didn't think Motorola's product was good enough. He didn't like AT&:T'sidea of a car phone, either. The man had a new idea. He wanted to make it possible for people to talk on their phones anywhere.
It took Cooper and his team 90 days to design the world's first cell phone. The product was called Dyna TAC. People could talk on it for 25 minutes before its battery(电池) died. The phone's short battery life wasn't a big problem,Cooper once joked. Why? Well, the phone was too heavy (1,100 grams) to hold in hand for more than 25 minutes !
On 3 April,1973,Cooper made the world's first public cell phone call. He called Joel Engel,an AT&. T manager. Cooper told Engel,"I'm calling you on a cell phone. It's a real, handheld cell phone. "On the other end of the line, there was only silence.
Cell phones have changed a lot since that first call. They're much smaller and can do many more things. Cooper, now 96,is surprised at the progress.
But the man has also kept thinking about life in the future. "Keep learning all your life,"he says,"or you'll lose the ability to learn--that would be terrible!"
We go to bed when we're tired. Sometimes, however,we wake up feeling tired even though we've slept for ten hours. Should we get more sleep then?
We go through life thinking we've rested as long as we've gotten enough sleep. But in fact, rest is much more than our nightly hours of shut-eye. Many of us are missing out on the other types of rest that we badly need. The first type of rest we need is physical rest. I can be passive or active. Passive physical rest refers to sleeping, while active physical rest includes activities like yoga(瑜伽). These activities help your body relax.
Have you ever heard your parents or others complain that they have a hard time focusing on their work? Have they ever said that when they lie down at night to sleep, they have trouble "turning off"their brains as conversations from the day fill their thoughts? These people need mental rest. You can advise them to take a short break every two hours during their workday. These breaks remind them to slow down a bit.
The third type of rest is sensory rest. Bright lights,,computer screens and background noise can make our senses feel tired. But this problem is easy to solve. You can close your eyes for a minute in the middle of the day or put away your electronics for a while.
Then comes creative rest,Allowing yourself to take in the beauty of nature—even if it's just at a local park-provides you with this type of rest. You can also place your favorite artwork around your desk. Enjoying art is another great way to get creative rest.
The last two types of rest we need are social rest and emotional rest. Spend some time with people who can provide help. Try to open up to them and share the hard things that have been troubling you lately.
Now you know-we need much more than a good night's sleep to feel well-rested, It's time for us to focus on getting the right type of rest we need.
by taking a short break ②by enjoying our favorite artwork ③by closing our eyes④by admiring natural beauty⑤by talking with people who can help us

As a little boy, there was nothing l liked better than Sunday afternoons at my grandfather's farm in Western Pennsylvania. There were miles of1 around the farm. The house and barn(仓房) provided endless hours of2 for a city kid like me.
I can still remember one afternoon when I was seven years old. Since my first visit to the3 ,I'd wanted more than anything to be allowed to climb the stonewalls,4 my parents would never allow me to do so. Still,my wish to climb those walls grew so strong. One spring afternoon,I picked up all my5 and came into the living room, where the adults had gathered after6 . I told them what I wanted to do. "No!"the women in the room cried. "You'll7 yourself ! "
I wasn't too disappointed; the reply was just as I'd expected. But 8 I could leave the
room,I was stopped by my grandfather's voice,"Hold on just a minute,"I heard him say. "Let the boy climb the stonewalls. He has to9 to do things for himself. "
"Go,"he said to me,"and come and see me when you get back. "
For the next two and a half hours l 10 those old walls and had the time of my life. Later I met with my grandfather to tell him about my unusual experience. I'll 11 forget what he said.
"Fred,"he said," you made this day a special day just by12 yourself. Always remember, there 's only one person in this whole world like you,and I like you exactly as you are. "
Many years passed and l13 the television program Mister Rogers''Neighborhood , seen by millions of children in every state of America. There have been14 over the years, but one thing remains the same: my15 to children at the end of almost every visit,"There 's only one person in this whole world like you,and people like you exactly as you are. "
It was a quarter past nine. Mr. Beet hadn't come back. His wife was a bit worried. The supper was cold and she had waited for two and a half hours. At that time, she (sit) by the table in a dark room. She closed her eyes but listened carefully.
Her husband worked in office. He worked hard so that he was paid a lot. All the things in his home(leave) by his parents. He and his wife only had to paytheir food and clothes. They tried their (good) to save money. If they had something important to tell their friends, they preferred (go) to visit them rather than call them. If they ever felt sick, they just bought some medicine instead of seeing a doctor.
Suddenly the woman was waiting for her husband heard someone coming upstairs. She hurried to open the door. In the dark she could hear his deep breathing. Asas he sat down, she turned on the light and found he looked very tired.
"Why do you come back so late, dear?" asked the woman. "Didn't you take the bus?"
"No,I didn't take it. I ran after itI saved two dollars this evening. "
"That's great !"the woman said(happy). "Run after a taxi next time and you'll save even more!"
There was a time when I had to count every cent I spent. T had to count the cost in my (头) while shopping. I would stand there and add up each thing over and over.
l remember one Christmas Eve when I(进人) the supermarket to do some shopping. I stood by the fridge and counted up the cost of the things I wanted to buy.
The(总数;合计) was too high and l couldn't buy everything. l looked through each thing, trying to decide what to put back. I kept everything that everyone(别的;其他的) in my family loved but had to give up the one thing l loved—a bag of chicken. l hated the feeling of not being able to(买得起) it but it was necessary.
That night, someone kept (敲) at my door. It was strange because it was very cold and late. I went to the door, opened it,and found bags of food on my (前面的) steps. Nobody was there. On the top of the first bag,l saw the bag of chicken, the same kind I had put back hours before.
l cannot (表达) the feeling of learning that even at my loneliest, I wasn't alone. I still don't know who left all that food(秘密地),but I will never forget that feeling. It shows me that while there may not be areal Santa Claus, there are certainly angels (在……之间)us,bringing love and kindness to the world.

Time travel is really cool! You can change the past. And you can find out what will happen in the future. Butis time travel just in many sci-fi? Or is it real?
People might travel to the future someday. But we have to make a special spaceship. The spaceship has to be as fast as light. When you travel at that ,time goes slower for you than it does for people on Earth. For example, you spend seven days on the spaceship. But people on Earth spend 100 years. When you go back to Earth, you are in the future.
What about traveling to the past? Scientists are not sure. But some believe through a black hole might be one way to do this. Things around black holesinto the holes. They must go somewhere. Perhaps they go to the past.
