There was a time when I had to count every cent I spent. T had to count the cost in my (头) while shopping. I would stand there and add up each thing over and over.
l remember one Christmas Eve when I(进人) the supermarket to do some shopping. I stood by the fridge and counted up the cost of the things I wanted to buy.
The(总数;合计) was too high and l couldn't buy everything. l looked through each thing, trying to decide what to put back. I kept everything that everyone(别的;其他的) in my family loved but had to give up the one thing l loved—a bag of chicken. l hated the feeling of not being able to(买得起) it but it was necessary.
That night, someone kept (敲) at my door. It was strange because it was very cold and late. I went to the door, opened it,and found bags of food on my (前面的) steps. Nobody was there. On the top of the first bag,l saw the bag of chicken, the same kind I had put back hours before.
l cannot (表达) the feeling of learning that even at my loneliest, I wasn't alone. I still don't know who left all that food(秘密地),but I will never forget that feeling. It shows me that while there may not be areal Santa Claus, there are certainly angels (在……之间)us,bringing love and kindness to the world.
