Last year I ruined my summer vacation by bringing along a modern convenience: the iPad. Instead of 1 nature, I checked my email. Instead of paddling a small boat, I followed my Twitter feed (特讯). Instead of reading great novels, I stuck to reading four 2 each morning. And that was the problem: I was behaving 3 I were still in the office. My body was on vacation but my head wasn't.
So this year I made up my mind to try something 4 : getting away from the Internet. I knew it wouldn't be easy, since I'm bad at self-control. But I was determined. I started by 5 the iPad to my wife. Then , a little bit of luck: the cell phone signal at our house was 6 than in the past, meaning that I couldn't cheat. I was forced to carry out my plan. Largely cut off from e-mail, Twitter and my favorite newspaper websites, I had few ways to connect to the world except for the radio and how much radio can one listen to, really? I had no 7 but to do what I had planned to all along: read books.
This experience has had a 8 ending. With determination and the strong support of my wife, I won in my vacation struggle 9 the Internet, I 10 realized that it was I, not the iPad, that was the problem.
I knew I had won when 11 passed a Starbucks and my wife asked if I wanted to stop to use the Wi-Fi. "I don't need it," I said. 12 , as we return to post-vacation life, a harder test begins: Can I 13 when I'm back at work? And I don't plan to 14 my convenience completely. But I hope to resist the temptation (诱惑) to check my e-mail every five minutes, which often leads to following my Twitter replies.
A vacation is supposed to help you reset your 15 to become more productive (高效的). Here I hope this one worked.

"Welcome to our new 'classroom'!" said Chen Dong, one of the three astronauts of the Shenzhou XIV mission.
They were giving a science class 400 kilometers above Earth on Oct 12, 2022. It was the third space class from the Tingong space station, but the first one from the Wentian module. The first two classes were held in the Tianhe module.
What does the new "classroom" look like? Chen, together with Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, showed us around. "The beds in the Wentian module are kept upright," said Liu. That means astronauts in the Wentian module need to sleep standing up! But as Liu explained, people don't feel any difference because there's no gravity (重力) in space.
The astronauts also showed their "space farm", where lettuce, wheat, thale cress and rice are grown. "Take a picture!" "Send the picture!" Through a voice-controlled camera, Chen already sent a picture of the thale cress to scientists on Earth. Then he used scissors to cut a sample (样本) . "I'll putit into a fridge at -80℃ and later give it to scientists on Earth," said Chen. Scientists will study how the environment of space affects the growth of plants.
"Can you see the water drops coming from the leaves? This is called "guttation.' (植物吐水)," said Liu, holding the well-grown rice. In space, the water drops are much bigger than those on Earth. So people can clearly see the guttation.
"We hope in the near future, we can harvest the food grown on our own," said Chen. "Maybe one day, we can grow food on the moon or even on Mars!"
Soon after we arrived, the whole family sat down at the table for dinner. The farmer put me on the table, with some small pieces of bread and meat. I was very afraid of falling off the table. The farmer and his family were happy to watch me eating with my small knife and fork.
But when I started walking across the table to the farmer, his youngest son, a boy of about ten, picked me up by the legs. He held me so high in the air that my whole body was shaking. Luckily his father took me away at once, and angrily hit the boy hard on the head. But I remembered how bad children can be to small animals. So I decided to forgive him. I fell on my knees and asked them not to punish the child any more. They seemed to understand.
Just then I heard a noise behind me. It sounded like twelve machines running at the same I turned my head and saw a huge cat, three times larger than one of our cows. The farmer's wife it in her arms, so that it could not jump at me. But in fact, because I showed no fear, there was no danger, and the cat even seemed a little afraid of me.
At the end of dinner, a servant came in with the farmer's one-year-old son in her arms. He immediately started crying, because he wanted to play with me. His mother smiled and put me in hand. When he picked me up and put my head in his mouth, I shouted so loudly that he dropped. Luckily, I was not hurt, but it showed me how dangerous life was going to be in Brobdingnag.
After eating, the farmer went back to his work in the fields. ▲ , because she put me on her bed and closed the door. I was very tired, and slept for two hours.

Humans are getting away from the nature gradually because of the developing technology. But now Digital Technology is offering us an opportunity to listen to the sounds in the nature in powerful ways, making us get closer to the worlds of animals and plants.
All around the nature, there are sounds that we struggle to pick up and understand. Elephants, for example, communicate with each other using infrasound, a sound far below our human hearing range. Coral in the ocean also communicates with each other through sound waves, with one purpose of attracting baby coral to areas where it can successfully grow. This is a shocking fact as coral doesn't have any ears!
To pick up sounds humans are normally unable to bear, scientists have placed listening devices in these environments. Researchers have attached tiny microphones to honeybees and turtles, and stuck listening posts that can receive different sound waves from coral reefs and trees. These devices are controlled by computers and networked with digital sensors and satellites. When interconnected, they work like a hearing aid: enabling humans to observe and record nature's sounds beyond the limits of our own listening ability. After the sounds are recorded, AI is then able to determine their meanings.
With this technology, humans can not only understand the animals, but also communicate back to them. For example, a team of researchers in Germany decoded the honeybees' behavior with AL Then they taught tiny robots how to do the honeybee dance. Using these dancing machines, the scientists were able to order the honeybees to stop moving, and to communicate where to fly to collect a specific nectar. In addition to the possibility of speaking with animals, the research could also be used to create a form of healing for animals and plants. That's to say, in the near future, scientists might be able to get coral to grow in certain areas by playing "healthy reef" sounds, which could help to heal some of the damage we have caused.
Now, Digital Technology provides a new way for humans to listen to the vivid sounds all around us. The dream of allowing humans to socialize with different animals and plants throughout the nature is being on its way.
Many people think dreams are full of messages that may not be clear to us common people. But if we think about what is going on in our lives, we can usually come up with an answer. Let's look at some of the most common dreams. What are the meanings of these dreams?
Falling
You're falling, falling, falling. and then you wake up. This dream is said to mean you are afraid of something or worried about something. Another explanation is that you may experience failure in something. Maybe you're not doing well in school or work.
Taking an exam (or forgetting that you have one)
You suddenly realize you have to take an exam at that very moment. You might be running here and there to find your classroom. Scientists say this dream may mean you're being tested about something or maybe you are facing a difficult problem.
Flying
Dreaming that you are flying means you are on top of things. You can control the things that matter to you. It may also mean you have confidence in yourself and think no one and nothing can beat you.
Trying to run, but going nowhere
You're trying to run, but either of your legs won't move or you simply aren't going anywhere. Some scientists think this dream means you're trying to do too many things at once and can't move forward.

Some people may think that students who study abroad have more time for fun and less homework. But in fact, Grade 12 students in Canada are just as busy as students in China. In Canada, students have (pay) equal attention to all the tests and homework. To reduce (they) pressure from the important courses, like math and English, students will often choose one or two courses in the last year of high school. They are usually easier so that students can get a fairly excellent final grade.
Take me as example-I chose an interesting course, cooking and health. This course is aimed at (help) students develop a healthy lifestyle and diet. The (big) fun of this course is that students can experience cooking. I believe this is the reason why there are a large number of students the waiting list. Teachers always let students decide they want to cook. Students (divide) into four groups with six people, and we enjoy the cooking time a lot.
After attending this class for more than three (month), I believe it's not as easy as others think it is because it requires basic knowledge of science, life skills and practice.
Some people might think they are just for fun and don't need to be taken (serious). But I believe it is a great way to forget our stress and I do learn a lot from those elective courses.
