These days, short videos have gotten millions of views online. Many people create and share short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects to your videos. The videos can last 15 minutes to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, singing and so on.
Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of students in high school said they enjoy watching these short videos. About 47 percent have upload their own videos, according to a recent survey.
The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting thing they seldom see. Many teens like to share the fun things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old girl named Xiao Qianyu has upload videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.
But the videos can also cause trouble. Some students watch them too often and they don't have enough time to study. At the same time, some vulgarvideos are harmful for teenagers.
To deal with this problem, Douyin added a new function in April, 2018. It will lock the app if students use the app for over two hours a day. In the same month, the government asked companies to control these apps and get rid of bad videos.
In December, 2022, Memphis Zoo in Tennessee announced that it would return Ya Ya, who arrived in the US in 2003. After her 20-year loan period(租借期) ended on April 7, China's giant panda Ya Ya finally returned home from the US after 20 days.
China prepared to welcome back Ya Ya and experts from Beijing Zoo arrived in the US in March to learn about her habits and feeding situation from the zoo staff members. Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that the quarantine(检疫) and feeding places for Ya Ya are ready along with her feeding plans and medical care.
In January, visitors found that Ya Ya had become very thin, which made many Chinese and animal lovers abroad worry about her health and life quality at the Memphis Zoo. The Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens said in an announcement that giant panda Ya Ya had been well cared for since it was sent to Memphis Zoo in the United States in 2003, and no signs of neglect(忽视) had been found, based on videos of the giant panda, monthly health reports and annual physical examinations.
Once Ya Ya finishes a 30-day mandatory(强制的) quarantine in Shanghai after landing in China, she will then be sent to Beijing Zoo.
The news that Ya Ya would come back to China cheered up millions of Chinese people. By April 9, 250 million people had talked about Ya Ya on the Internet. "Come home soon, Ya Ya. I'll go to see you in the zoo even if I have to wait in line all day long!" An Internet user commented on Sina Weibo.
Zibo city in Shandong province has stormed the Internet since late February for its local barbecue. In March, the small city received about 4.8 million tourists. It is certainly not the only city that offers barbecue, or even the most famous one, but its seemingly sudden fame was steps in the making.
Zhou Maosong, president of the Zibo Tourism Promotion Association said the popularity started from the crowd-gathering effect of cultural and tourism activities including a music festival. Then famous people tasted the barbecue and put their experiences online attracting young people, which led to a wave of students from neighbouring cities visiting Zibo. What better way to lure adventurous and hungry college students other than "tasty barbecue that makes you full within only 50 yuan!" However, Zibo did not fall into the trap (陷阱) of easy fame that dies fast where sellers cheat buyers on price and quality for the most profit (盈利) in the shortest time. A blogger on Douyin took an electronic scale (电子秤) to ten barbecue stands in Ziboto test if he would be offered less food. It turned out that not a single one was caught short of weight and some owners even offered him local snacks for free. Local people's honest and friendly behaviour touched even more people online and again lifted the city's popularity.
Zibo's successful story has inspired governments in other parts of the country to find their ways of supporting local businesses.
①Famous people's recommendation.
②Barbecue at low prices.
③Support from neighbouring cities.
④Local people's kindness.
Teamwork plays an important role in our daily life. It means that although everyone is important, we need to work with others to make sure that the team can succeed.
While discussing things in a group, it is important for students to show their own opinions-but they should also remember to listen to others carefully when others are speaking. Such groups are really useful for those who are short of self-confidence. The groups can also help people to learn how to say what they think in front of other people.
Communicating with others in a team is of great importance. First, what is the work? Second, what is the timescale (工期)?Third, what is the role of each learner and what should they do?
Depending on personalities, some people find their roles more difficult than others. Sometimes, roles can be allocated randomly(随机分配),while at other times, students may be able to choose their roles in a task.
Everyone in a team should work hard at the task and give their best work, while remembering that they are still parts of a team. When there are clash(冲突) between personalities, everyone may need to compromise for the good of the team.
A. People often hear that there's no "I" in a team. B. The team needs to know three key points. C. In a group work, learners often have certain roles to play. D. Sometimes, there may be difficulties, but it is important to solve problems in time. E. We celebrate each other's success and learn from each other's failure. |
Yuan Longping a Chinese scientist and educator, died at the age of 91 in Hunan last month. He was called the "Father of Hybrid Rice(杂交水稻)" and he helped 1 people around the world.
Yuan Longping was the first person to develop a kind of hybrid rice which helped fight 2 in China. Food was a big problem in China in the past. This was because China had 22 percent of the world's population, but only 7 percent of its 3 . In the 1960s, Chinese people had a difficult time. Millions of people died because they had no food. As an agronomy teacher, Yuan was very 4 to see this. "How can I help them have enough food?" he thought. He decided to work on a kind of hybrid rice. It has a high output(产量).
At that time, other scientists didn't think hybrid rice was worth 5 . But Yuan and his team worked on it every day. They took very good care of their rice seeds.
At last, in 1973, they grew a new kind of hybrid rice. This rice is 6 . Farmers can grow it in many different kinds of farmland and in bad 7 .It can also fight disease. Its output was much 8 than common kinds of rice. With the new kind, about 70,000,000 people could have food every year!
Yuan solved the food problem in China. But he was 9 working on rice when he was very old. Before he retired, he hoped to grow rice in the sea!
Yuan once said he had two dreams—to "enjoy the 10 under the rice crops(庄稼)taller than men" and that hybrid rice could be grown all over the world to help solve the global food problem.
This time yesterday, Mr. Zhang (celebrate) his (ninety) birthday at home. He said this to his family (member) "Most people change houses during their lifetime, but I have livedin this house since I was born. I've got three children and all of them were born in this house too. Most of the time it has been a happy place. The street is very different when I was young. At that time, there were no cars and all the children used(play) in the road. Some children still do, it's not the same—you've got to be very careful nowadays with the traffic. None of the people who live in the street now are as (old) as I am — many of them (die) for years; others have moved to another area. I don't go out much now and I'm getting a bit deaf. But none of this is important. I've got my children and my grandchildren, and they are everything to(I)."
At the end of the party, on the dinner table, Mr. Zhang's daughter laid two big bowls noodles whichwereeaten up in a minute by the whole family. "Happy Birthday!" Everyone said to Mr. Zhangin (excite).
Role-playing games have recently become one of China's most popular games, especially among young people.
Role-playing is a game in which about five to eight players play roles in a fictional setting. ①一场游戏通常会持续4到7个小时。The players take responsibility for acting out these roles and win the game by finding clues.
A shop owner named Shen, who has had his shop in Beijing for more than ten years, said that besides well-qualified(高素质的)staff, a competitive role-playing game shop should also have a good location, a good script and rich experience. ②He pointed out that most of the players in his shop are from 18 to 35 years old.
Besides offline stores, online role-playing stores are also very popular. One owner said the number of their app's users has increased by eight million, according to a CCTV report.
Lu Mengyue, a senior role-player who has been playing for six years, said that she likes reasoning, as she enjoys the process of collecting the clues. "I like watching Who's The Murderer. And I like the feeling of success after using my knowledge to find out the answers, " said Lu. Li Yuyu, another role-player, said that she could get to know her friends' personalities(性格) or even people she just met within a short period of time when playing role-playing games.
"It is a good game for making friends and getting familiar with them, especially when you just met some new friends," said Li.
