When I was five years old, I lived with my family in my grandma's old house. It was very old and small, but we were 1 there. We didn't have a lot of money, but we grew our own 2 to eat and made our own clothes.
Every day after school, I would 3 outside and wait for my dad to come home from work. He worked on 4 all day for drivers. When he got home, he was tired with oil on his hands. So the first thing he would do is to 5 his hands. Then he sat in his old chair while mom and grandma were making dinner. After dinner, I loved 6 onto his back and watching TV together. His hands were strong, and I always felt 7 and loved.
Now I am 55 years old and the oldest person in my family. I have some health problems, but I still remember those happy times with my dad 8 . I wish I could go back and sit with him in that old 9 one more time, just to 10 him how much I love him and thank him for making me feel so happy and loved as a child.
New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out. Middle schools used a new way to decide who the most excellent students are. The best students won't only have good grades. They will also be kids who don't dye (染) their hair, smoke or drink.
Tell the truth. Have you ever copied others' work during an exam?Don't do it again. If you played computer games for two hours in your room, don't tell your parents you were doing your homework.
Do more at school. April is Bird-Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate? You should join! That way, you can learn more about animals and learn how to protect them. And when your classmates are in trouble, remember to give them a hand. You know a friend in need is a friend indeed.
Try to stay away from web pages that are bad for you. Find good websites and use them for homework.
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon?Maybe you can discover a new planet some day. Don't look down on new ideas. You should welcome them because new ideas can make life better.
A. Good students love animals and care about others. |
Bobi, the world's oldest dog, just celebrated his 31st birthday on May 11th, 2023.
A party was held on Saturday at his home in a Portuguese (葡萄牙的) village. More than 100 people attended the party. Local meat and fish were served to the guests and Bobi, who only eats human food.
Mr. Costa owned several old-aged dogs in the past, but he never imagined any of his dogs would reach their 30s. What has helped Bobi's long life?Mr. Costa believes the "quiet and peaceful environment" in which Bobi lives matters. Also Bobi has enjoyed a free and happy life in the nearby forest. But he thinks the most important reason is that the "very active" dog has never been lonely.
Now in Bobi's older years, he finds it difficult to walk. Just like old aged humans, Bobi sleeps a lot. He lies down in bed at once after eating, although on cold days he chooses to take a short sleep by the fire. He refuses to, walk in the forest. Instead he prefers to hang out at home in the yard. Only little Costa, Mr. Costa's son, can ask him for a walk outside.
Mr. Costa, now 38, was only 8 years old when Bobi was born. "Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the family members who have already left this world, like my grandparents, " Mr. Costa said.
Toys and games are fun, but inventing them is serious business. Big toy companies treat it even more serious, because the more toys they sell, the more money they make. They have adults who do nothing but think up new toys. Sometimes they even work in locked rooms so no one can steal their ideas!
But not every new to y is invented that way. Some of the best inventions are made by kids. Thirteen-year-old Casey loved to play golf. He invented a way to make the game more fun. He invented a new golf tee (球座). It is called the Bio tees. Most golf tees are made from wood, but Casey's tee is made out of recycled paper. It does not harm the environment. Casey started his own company to make his new tee. He's already had orders for millions of them.
Jessica invented a toy when she was only eight. Jessica likes to jump rope. She jumps alone and she jumps with friends. To jump alone, you need a short rope. With friends, you need a long rope. So Jessica invented a new kind of jump rope. The length of Jessica's jump rope can be modified(调整). It can be made long to jump with friends. Or it can be made short to jump alone. When you finish jumping, you can even turn the jump rope into a belt. Now Jessica has a business to sell her jump ropes.
Do you have a great idea for a new invention?Give your idea a try. It may become the next Bio tee or latest jump ropes.
My favorite place to eat at is a noodle shop. The shop is near my school. It's not big or beautiful, but it's clean and tidy. I go there because I like the delicious food and the wonderful service.
The noodle soup is the best I have ever had. The soup has a rich taste that is not very salty. It's served with my choice of Xiangtan rice noodles. And I usually get the noodles topped with some beef, pork or a fried egg. Just the smell from a bowl of rice noodles makes my mouth water.
The shop also serves some other delicious food, including soybean. (豆浆), porridge, spring rolls and dumplings. People in the neighborhood often go there for breakfast. After a good meal they always leave with a big smile and welcome a day of work or study full of energy.
Besides the high-quality food, it also provides me with top service. When I come into the shop, I am warmly greeted by people working there. They give me the most friendly smile and sometimes the warmest words. And they always put a lot of vegetables in my noodle soup for free. They say they want me to be healthy. I get a strong feeling of satisfaction and happiness after eating there.
Your three years in junior high school will finish soon. Do you want to say something like the following three?
Lin Yijian, 14, Xiamen, Fujian
I went through a hard time in the second year in junior high because my grades suddenly dropped a lot. I faced great pressure. In the following summer vacation, I worked really hard by studying from 7:30 a. m. to 9:30 p. m. every day. It was crazy. But when I caught up with my classmates, I felt everything was worthwhile (值得的).
Zhang Wanying, 15, Dalian, Liaoning
(4) In 2019, I had a trip to the US with some students and teachers. When we arrived there, the other students and I didn't want to eat the local food. The teachers were worried and tried to make us eat. When we finally finished the meal, the guide scolded (责备) us, saying that the world saw how spoiled (被宠坏的) Chinese kids were. I felt really sorry.
Zhao Shu, 14, Hangzhou, Zhejiang
I live in a dorm(寝室) during junior high school. In the beginning, it was a great challenge since I had never left my parents before that. I had to do everything by myself. I learned to tidy my bed and get along with my roommates. (5) 我也学会了计划我的时间。Now, I feel comfortable living here.
When I was a child, I loved to visit, my grandparents' farm. There was always something new to do, to see and to enjoy.
One day, I, together with my brothers and sisters, went to my grandparents' farm to celebrate my birthday. We all liked (eat) strawberries and we went to pick (they). We each took a basket. But I was lazy. I took the (small) basket. While the others were (pick) strawberries, I had a rest. Before we returned, I put a lot of grass in my basket and then I put a few strawberries on top. The basket looked full. My grandfather said he was proud my hard work.
The next morning my grandmother made many (pie). There was a big pie which was (make) just for me. It looked nice! But when I began to eat it, I found there was nothing but grass under the top strawberries!' You can guess surprised I was.
My grandfather looked at me (calm) and said, "When you cheat others, you cheat yourself. " He didn't need to say more but taught me go od lesson.
