—I agree with you more. We students should learn how to protect ____ at school.
I used to be shy. I never 1 my hand in class unless the teacher called my name. And I always chose to sit at the back of the classroom.
All this 2 after I joined a sports team. It began when a teacher suggested I try out for the basketball team. At first I thought it was a 3 idea because I didn't have a good sense of balance. But the teacher thought I should have a 4 . Then I agreed.
When I first 5 preparing the practice, I didn't know what I should do. Even 6 I knew nothing about the rules of the game. Sometimes I shot at the 7 directions, and it made me feel really stupid! However, I didn't want to give up.
I practiced and practiced. Soon I knew the rules and the "moves". Being part of the basketball team 8 me excited. I also made friends in the process. They respected my hard work and encouraged me to be a better player. I never had so much 9 .
More importantly, I have gone from hiding at the back of the classroom 10 being active in class. Now I have more self-confidence in myself and I'm glad I have changed.
Do you have any hobbies? Many of us exercise, do volunteer work, or learn interesting skills in our spare time. What do you enjoy doing the most in your free time?
Jessica, America I like playing the violin best, and benefit a lot from it. Every time I feel sad, I'll play. When I hear the beautiful music from my strings(弦), I feel like my world is full of light again. I play it not only for relaxation, but also for my health. |
Han Meimei, China During my spare time, I've learned how to cook, because I don't want to depend on my parents so much. Even though my cooking isn't as delicious as my parents', I can make dishes without their help. Cooking lets me enjoy my own life. |
Tom, Australia I like writing when I'm free. I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter series, and three years ago I began to write a sequel(续集)to it. Since then, I've fallen in love with writing. I love it so much that I plan to go on practicing it and writing my own stories. |
When I was in school, I got into an argument with a boy in my class.
I thought that "I" was right and "he" was wrong—and he thought that "I" was wrong and "he" was right. The teacher decided to teach us a lesson.
She brought us up to the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. There was a large round object on her desk. It was black. But when she asked the boy, he answered, "White".
I couldn't believe it! Another argument started, this time about the color of the object.
The teacher told us to change our places. Then she asked me "What color is the object?" I had to answer "White". It was an object with two differently colored sides. From his side it was white. From my side it was black.
Sometimes we need to stand in other persons' shoes and look at the problem through their eyes.
Younger people and older people do not always agree with each other. They sometimes have different ideas about life, work and play. But in one special program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly way.
Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and happiness in work. Some teenagers work in the woods or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make tables and chairs and to build houses. The adults teach them these skills.
There are a few free hours every day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours, some of the teenagers learn how to take photos and draw, and others sit around talking and singing. Each teenager has his own way to spend his spare time.
When people live together, rules are necessary. In this program, the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. If someone breaks a rule, the problem goes before the whole group. They discuss it and ask "Why did it happen?" or "What should we do about it?"
One of the teenagers talks about his experience that you should stop thinking only about yourself, and learn to think about the group.
Are you bored with your everyday life? Here are some things you should try before you are 18, because after that it's too late!
Try at least one kind of team sports
Being a good team player is an important skill in life. You can't just think of yourself. You have to work well with others. Other advantages of team sports like football and baseball are that they keep you fit, and they are also interesting. Teams usually have great social life, too. You'll go to lots of parties and make many friends.
Collect something
One of the best hobbies for young people under 18 is collecting things. You could collect stamps, or you could collect things that make you remember what you have done, like tickets for movies you've seen or letters from your friends. The best way to remember the things you collect is to have a special album (集物簿)to put your collection in and to write what each thing means to you.
Camp out in the garden
If you don't have your own garden, find a friend who has one! You will need two or three friends, a small tent, sleeping bags and warm blankets. Take lots of food and drinks with you into the tent and play games until it gets dark, eat all your snacks. You will need a torch or something else, or you won't be able to see all your snacks.
We often come across robots in our daily lives as technology develops. They are everywhere, including homes, factories, stores and schools. As a result, robots will be likely to play a more important role in shaping the future.
Robots have been used in industry for many years, though it seems they are future machines only found in science movies. Robots have showed their effectiveness and efficiency (高效)in different situations, including dangerous tasks like dealing with nuclear materials(核材料). Industrial robots, however, are not just valuable for factories; they are also important in construction(建筑)and agriculture.
From the food we eat to the products we order online and have brought to our doorsteps, the technology of robots has already become part of our daily lives. So it's exciting to consider how industrial robots will become even more common as time goes by.
In schools, in order to let students develop their interests and learn about subjects without getting hurt, educational robots were created for use in classrooms. And robots for children are for sale now because they are safer, generally less expensive, and are less likely to cause harm if something goes wrong.
An increasing number of people are taking educational robots into their daily lives, because they offer a good deal of help, from instructing(指导)kids in basic programing to carrying out difficult operations. The use of educational robots will continue to grow as technology advances(进步)and new markets and job chances open up.
