Every time I read the saying, "Actions speak louder than words." I think about my three-year-old sister. She is unable to speak 1 or in complete sentences. But her actions are able to speak for her. I have 2 many lovely moments with her. 

I enjoy playing with her. Sometimes she makes me laugh. She used to take our father's phone, run towards me 3 it and point it at me. She wanted me to play her favorite cartoon for her. When the cartoon was on, she would be very happy. Sometimes we wouldn't hear 4 from her for a while. She was so quiet. And when we 5 her, we would sometimes find her doing something naughty like drawing on the walls. She would be so happy when she was given chocolate.

Once there were many thousands of Gourma Desert（沙漠）elephants in Mali, a country in west Africa. Now, there are fewer than four hundred. 

Why did the number of the elephants drop so quickly? on the one hand, the elephants' main lake, their only water source（来源）, dried up. On the other hand, the land which the elephants lived on was overused by humans. 

To protect the elephants' living environment, the Mali Elephant Project（MEP）was started in 2007. MEP met with local people and helped them make rules of using land and water. As a result, the situation became better and there was more food, forest and grassland. 

However, from 2012 to 2016, poaching（偷猎）and illegal trade in the elephants increased rapidly. Eighty-three elephants were lost in 2015 alone, and another fifty-one elephants were killed in 2016. "If this situation goes on, all the Gourma elephants will be killed by 2020," said a member of MEP. 

Luckily, the voice of MEP was heard. More organizations（组织）have joined together to educate the local people that trading elephants is against the law. Elephant poaching has dropped to a very low level. The local people have learned to live peacefully with the elephants, one of the wildlife treasures in the world. 

Nancy's boss has just let her know that her customers' products are about to leave the company. And then he tells her there's a problem. 

"The products were damaged（损坏）by someone in our company," the boss says. "But this shouldn't affect the use of the products. If the customers find it, we'll say it was caused by the trucking（货运）company that delivered（运载）the products."

Hearing this, Nancy feels uncomfortable. "But didn't our workers damage the products?" Her boss looks at her, "Yeah, but the customers don't know that. I'll just say they were damaged while they were delivered. Don't worry, the customers, won't even notice the damage."

Nancy's boss walks out. Nancy sits at her desk and she's not sure what to do. She knows it's dishonest to blame（将…归咎于）the damage on the trucking company. It's also dishonest to cheat her customers and give them less perfect products. 

Many of us have to make decisions that make who we are and what we believe in. Most often, we face a choice that may seem insignificant（微不足道的）: But this doesn't mean that they're not important to us because even the smallest action may make a difference to us. 

You've been learning words since you were a tiny baby. At first, you learned them only by hearing other people talk. Now that you're a reader, you have another way to learn words. What should you do when you come to a word and you think you don't know what it means?  .

Say it

First sound it out. Then say it to yourself. . Sometimes you know a word in your head but you don't know what it looks like in print. So if you match up what you know and what you read—you have the word! 

Use context

If this doesn't work, take the next step: look at the context—the other words and sentences around it. Read this sentence: When it rained, the dog looked for shelter in the doorway. . Rain and in the doorway might give you helpful information. 

If the context doesn't help, look at the parts of the word. Does it have any parts you know? These can help you understand what it means. If you don't know the meaning of miner, try looking at parts of the word. You might know that a mine is a place underground where people get coal and other valuable things. A lot of times, -er at the end of a word means "a person who does something". So a miner might be someone who works in a mine. 

Look it up

If the three steps above don't work, you can look it up. —either a book or online. 

Nobody knows the meaning of every word, but good readers know how to understand words they don't know. 

Last term, Peter was  at home. His parents were doing business in another city. He felt lonely, so he often turned on the computer and played computer . However, sitting in front of the computer for a long time is  for him. And he spent little time on his study. He failed his exams. Luckily, his parents his problem in time. They decided to come back home. Peter studies hard now. So far, he has made progress in his study. He he can catch up with his classmates soon. 

The summer holiday is coming. I can't wait to making a good plan for it. First, I will take hours on my study, every day. Reading more books and practicing writing will be good way to improve myself. Second, in order to keep fit, I will do any sports with my friends. 

Such like playing basketball and swimming. This summer holiday will be a good time for fun, so I plan to watch movies and have picnics with me family. 

What's more, to experience differently cultures in other places will be a most important part of my plan. 

All of these will are helpful for my future life.
