—I know it is not easy, but never ____, my son. Let me help you.
—It was great. I had fun playing games with some of my friends.

Later, Mr. Hatch found out that the heart-shaped box belonged to somebody else. It was a 6 . He felt 7 and went back to his old ways. You may know about many traditional Chinese festivals such as the Spring Festival or the Lantern Festival, but have you ever heard of Dragon Heads-raising Day?
Dragon Heads-raising Day is also called the Spring Dragon Festival. It is on the second day of the second lunar (农历) month. It's on March 11th this year. It comes from an old story. After that day, the Dragon King will wake up from his winter sleep and bring more rain. So that day is the start of spring and farming season.
One of the most interesting things is about the haircut. People believe that cutting hair during the first lunar month is not a good idea. It may bring bad things to your uncles. So people can only cut it on or after Dragon Heads-raising Day. Although it's not true, many people still do it.
There are also other ways to celebrate this festival. For example, people eat food with dragon names. People call noodles dragon's beard (胡须). Dumplings are dragon's ears and spring rolls (春卷) are dragon's scales (鳞). People also do dragon dances and make dragon lanterns. The lanterns stand for people's best wishes and good luck.
Wherever (无论何地) we are today, whatever we are, we should always remember our parents who have given and taught us so much. We should show them how thankful we are for everything that they have done for us. We should do something to express our thanks, and the most important thing is that they know how much we love them. Let's see how some students from Green Middle School are going to do for their parents.
Jeff: I will work harder and try to do well in school in order not to make them worried. |
Laura: I think the best way I can show my gratitude (感谢) to my mom is to have a surprise party for her on Mother's Day. I will sing a song and wash feet for my mom. I want to make her a happy mother. |
Bruce: My mother is busy with housework. She is very tired. So I decide to help her do some housework like doing the dishes, sweeping the floor when I am free. |
Rose: My parents tell me the best way to reward (回报) them is to help those who are in need. So I think I have made up my mind to go to the old people's home to help the old on weekends. |
It is usual for Chinese schools to pay much more attention to studies than sports. However, the problems of students' physical health have drawn (吸引) people's attention recently. In 2021, the Sports Literacy Evaluation System (体育素养评价体系) was officially put into use. In order to help improve students' health, the Ministry of Education (教育部) required that primary and high school students must do an hour of sports activities a day to improve their physical health.
Tang Jiangpeng, a head teacher from Jiangsu Province, asked all of his students to take one PE class a day and exercise for at least an hour. "If students can't get high scores, they will fail to enter a good university. But if they just have high scores, they may fail the test of life," he said.
Tang said that half of the boys were taller than him, but very few of them could do the school's chin-up (引体向上) test, and 132 boys couldn't even do one chin-up. After just one term of sports classes, most students can do 50 push-ups in a minute now. "Before the sports classes, I could only do two to three chin-ups. But now I can easily finish 10," Zhang Kunpeng, a first-grade student said. The changes show that exercise is necessary.
Schools now offer different kinds of sports classes, including basketball, volleyball, swimming and yoga to students as they hope to encourage students to do more exercise. Besides, well-trained coaches will teach sports classes.
Are you troubled by housework, such as cleaning tables or tidying your room? A new robot is here to help! Recently, the robot Mobile Aloha made by scientists at Stanford University in the US became popular online.
In the videos posted, we can see the robot preparing dishes on its own, from cutting vegetables to cracking (打破) eggs. It's also good at watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and washing clothes. It even knows to shake the pillow (枕头) after putting it into a pillowcase (枕套).
Sounds good? Well, another video posted by researchers may disappoint some people. Mobile Aloha isn't good at doing housework on its own. Instead, it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can't work well without a human "teaching" it. So it may break dishes, bump into (撞上) things and even burn a pot.
The robot can successfully move chairs 80 percent of the time said the team after they did more research on it. For cooking dishes, it's only 40 percent. In short, it's far from perfect.
In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as math and playing chess, but they face challenges when it comes to simpler actions like cleaning. And it's the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body doesn't move correctly—even just with a small deviation, its arm may move too far to pick up a glass.
"Robots are not ready to take over the world," the team posted on the Internet.
Good advice can help people make better decisions. However, bad advice may have terrible results.
Listen to the person asking you for advice. Listen to the person who wants advice, and learn as much as possible about this situation.
Put yourself in others' shoes. Think about what you will do if you are in the same situation.
Think about the results of taking and not taking your advice. This is more important for complex (复杂的) problems.
Someone asks for your advice, but he or she may not take it. The person knows more about the situation than you do, so your advice may not be the best. Don't be surprised when a person doesn't take your advice. Live with it, and let the person live with his or her decision.
A. Never give bad advice.
B. Your advice might be very helpful.
C. There are some ways for you to give advice.
D. Don't just depend on your experience to give advice.
E. Understand that the person may not take your advice.
F. When possible, think twice about all the possible results.
G. Every situation is special, so never think you know all about a problem.
