Dear Mrs. Black,
I'm not happy. I have too many rules in my home. From Monday to Friday, I have to get up at half past six, read English for an hour and then ride my bike to school. I can't play with my classmates after school because I have to do my homework first and then walk my dog. I can't watch TV on school days. And I have to go to bed before ten o'clock. On weekends, I needn't get up at half past six. But I have to get up early, because I have to clean my room and wash my clothes. Then in the afternoon I have to go to the club to learn dancing. When I come back, I have to help my mother make dinner. I can't play computer games, choose(选择) clothes for myself or do what I like. I never have fun. What can I do?
Yours,
Jane
Swimming is a fun sport in summer for children. In summer, a lot of parents love to take their children to go swimming. They usually go to swimming pools. A swimming pool is a place for fun, but it is also a dangerous place for children. If parents don't look after their children well, there may be an accident.
To keep children safe(安全的), here are some good ideas for parents. First, don't leave children in the pool by themselves. Parents always need to be with them. Leaving children by themselves in the water even for a minute may bring them an accident. Second, make sure that children can't open the door of the swimming pool. Never leave the door open if there are only children, or children may run out from the swimming pool. Also, parents should know some life-saving skills(救生技能). Then they can help to save their children if the children are in danger.
Cindy comes from England. Her father works in a hospital and her mother teaches music in a middle school. Cindy began playing the violin when she was four. Her parents bought her a special violin. Cindy's brother was twelve at that time. He played the guitar. After Cindy heard him play something, she tried to play it on her violin. She had a talent(天赋) for playing the violin. At the age of eight, she began to play at some concerts in England.
When Cindy was ten, she met Mr Miller. She was sure that he was the right teacher for her. Mr Miller's work took him around the world and Cindy had to fly hundreds of kilometres to get to his classes.
Cindy was only fourteen when she made her first CD, but she said she was just like other children. "I have got lots of friends and I love music. I also make sure I have time for other things," she said.
How do you go to school? By bus? By train? On foot? For some children, the answer is "I swim". 14-year-old Mosa tells us about how he gets to school.
I live in a small village in South Africa. I can see my school from my bedroom window. But there is a big problem—there is a river between home and my school. There is a small boat, but poor children do not have money to use it.
Every morning, my friends and I take off our school uniforms near the river. We put our clothes and school books in a bucket(木桶). Then we swim to school. On rainy days, the water runs quickly. This is very dangerous. Another problem is the crocodiles(鳄鱼). They live in the river and want to eat us. It is very scary and dangerous too!
After swimming, we are tired at school. Then after school we must swim again to get home.
Mosa says that the people in his village want to build a bridge over the river. But this needs a lot of money. I hope one day Mosa and his friends can have a safe way to go to school.
Grayson sat alone on the bus ride from school to home. He didn't want to talk to his friends or anybody else. They were talking about their homework for the weekend and they were happy because their parents would help them. But Grayson's parents were always busy.
When Grayson got home, Grandpa looked at him and said, "You look unhappy, Grayson.""It's my homework, Grandpa, Every student needs to ask a grown-up(成人) for help to make something together. The students need to write down how they make it. But I don't have anyone to help me,"Grayson said.
"How about me?" Grandpa asked.
Oh, his grandpa! Grayson soon sat at the table with Grandpa. They thought of many things to make: a kite, a lantern, a paper tiger... At last, they decided to make a robot out of old milk boxes. Grandpa even found some crayons to paint it. When they finished, the table was not tidy. But Grayson couldn't stop smiling(微笑).
"It's the best robot!"Grayson said. "Thank you, Grandpa! I had a lot of fun."
Grandpa said, "Me too. Maybe next time we can make something different." Grayson smiled again. He couldn't wait!
