Are you an organized student? I always admire the students who can organize their things and time well. Lately, I've started keeping a study diary to get myself organized. Because it's helpful. What are your ideas? Please share some opinions below. Posted by Kate |
Ann In my opinion, keeping organized helps us review our lessons in a short time. Don't leave all the problems until the night before the exams! |
Kate Thanks a lot! I agree. @Ann |
Hana I always spend about five minutes before bedtime tidying up my things. I throw away things I don't need and put what I need in the proper place. |
Kate I think it's a good habit to tidy up the things every day. It can help us save much time. @ Hana |
Mike My advice is to have a notice board in your bedroom. Use board pens to write down something important and make sure they can remind us all the time. The most wonderful part is when I take off something from the board! |
Kate Wow, I'll take a try. @Mike |
Georgy lived a hard life with his mother Amelia Sedley. He studied in a little local school and did well at all his lessons. Miss Dobbin, Georgy's teacher, followed his progress with interest, and was ready to be helpful and knew how poor the Sedleys were.
"Do let Georgy spend the day with me next Saturday," Miss Dobbin said to Amelia one day. "Miss Osborne, Georgy's aunt, is coming to visit, and I know she'd love to see her brother's son. And who knows, perhaps the boy's grandfather will do something for him one day. "
The meeting took place and Miss Osborne liked Georgy a lot. After the meeting, while having dinner at the dinner table with her father that night, Miss Osborne could not hide her emotion.
"What's the matter?" old Mr. Osborne shouted at last. Georgy's aunt burst into tears. "Oh sir," she said, "I've seen little Georgy. He's such a beautiful boy—and so like his father!"
The old man did not say a word, but his hands trembled (颤抖), and he sat staring at the table for a long time.
Soon Georgy told his mother about another visitor at the house on a day he spent with Miss Dobbin. "An old gentle nan came today," the boy said. "He watched when I had my riding son. He stared and stared at me.
Amelia knew that the boy had seen his grandfather, and she waited nervously to see what would happen next. After several days, a lawyer came with a letter from Mr. Osborne. "Mr. Osborne offers to take his grandson Georgy, who will then inherit (继承) the fortune (巨款) which would have gone to his father. He will also give Mrs. Amelia Osborne a regular allowance (补贴) to enable her and her family to live in comfort. If she marries again, as is said to be likely, this allowance will still continue. In return, the boy will live with Mr. Osborne, who will allow him to visit his mother once or twice in her own home. "
Amelia was rarely angry, but today she stood up, tore this letter into a hundred pieces, and threw them on the floor.
"Marry again! Take money—to part from my child! Who dares to hurt me in this way? Tell Mr. Osborne it is a ridiculous (荒唐的) letter. I will not answer it. Good day, sir!"
a. Georgy met his grandfather.
b. Miss Osborne came to visit Georgy.
c. Amelia refused the "help" from old Mr. Osborne.
d. Amelia received a letter from old Mr. Osborne.

Why do We Yawn?
Do you yawn? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.
We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.
Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.
Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (强化) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things.
In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.
Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do.
Now about half of the world's population live in cities, but by 2050, cities will probably become even more crowded! All these people will need places to live, and energy to power their homes. This will put more pressure on the earth's resources. So we need to come up with more ways which are good for the environment to build houses, travel and make energy.
Covestro, a company in Germany, is working hard to make the future cities better. Rebecca, the head of the company, tells us the following exciting new ideas.
"As we all know, climate changes and pollution are the two biggest challenges facing the future. Right now, people use fossil fuel (化石燃料) too much for energy. That's not good for the environment. At Covestro, we set up Covestro's idea lab, scientists come together to solve problems here. "
"We've developed some new materials. Because of that, we are able to change wind turbines (风力发电机) and try to make them much bigger. Larger wind turbines mean that they can produce more energy. "
"We're working on lighter solar panels (太阳能电池板) so that one day we could provide power for our planes and cars with sunlight! Besides, we are also recycling carbon dioxide (CO2),which is the main cause of climate warming. By using CO2, we've already successfully made sports floors, car parts and even clothing. "
"In the future, materials will become lighter and more natural-looking. They'll become ‘smarter'. They'll need to be able to share information using special tiny machine, that's what Covestro is creating at the moment!"
