When I was in the sixth grade, one day my teacher asked our class to think about the question "What does "doing the right thing' mean to you?" over the weekend. By Monday, we had to hand in an essay (论文) on it, and be ready to live up to (实践) our 1 .
The whole weekend, I was trying to 2 something that would impress (使印象深刻) my teacher and be easy to live up to. I 3 to my parents, called my grandmother and asked my neighbor. Everyone had good answers, but I didn't feel like I could live up to them.
On Sunday afternoon, my parents said they were going to my Aunt Cindy's house. That usually meant that I would have to 4 time with my four-year-old cousin Andrea while myparents visited. I found a Disney movie for Andrea, and then I sat down and started to write my essay. It was due (到期的) the next morning and this is my last chance.
Soon I felt a pair of 5 on me. It was Andrea.
"What are you doing?" Andrea asked.
"I have to write an essay 6 what ‘doing the right thing' means to me." I answered.
Andrea laughed. Could this 7 four-year-old girl know the answer? "That's not 8 ," she said. "'Doing the right thing' means being 9 to your family andfriends and never telling a lie. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. 10 when you are dirty.
I looked at my little cousin with great 11 . Then I jumped up and gave her a big hug. Not only had Andrea answered a very difficult question for me, but I could 12 live up toall of her answers. All I had to do was to be nice, not to lie, to keep myself13 and clean. So when I wrote my essay, I described the 14 about Andrea and how she had answered the question.
Two weeks later, my teacher gave back everyone's essay. I got an A+ along with a little note at the top. It 15 , "Always do the right thing and give Andrea an A+, too!"

Fights at school sometimes happen. But how can you keep away from a fight? Here's something you can do.
Be calm (冷静). Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can't solve (解决) problems. A fight can't help, either. It may bring you moreproblems. In the school, everyone will be punished (惩罚) , if he gets into a fight. There are no winners in a fight.
Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack, turn towards the person with your hands up in front of your body and loudly say "stop" before walking away. Loud voice can usually make the attacker calm down. If the person doesn't stop, shout for help by calling outthe name of a teacher whose office is not far away.
____. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight, but helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to help him, try to ask him to give it up. Also, he may get hurt and be punished. Then, try to learn why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to solve the problem.
Three years ago, I started working at the University (大学) of Leeds. Having moved to a new city, I had no friends, so I decided to look for things to do. After several days, I found that a community school was offering (提供) Chinese evening classes. Without much thought, I had a beginner class.
I had no idea to move to China. I just wanted to learn a new language. I could speak good English and Spanish. But I thought there should be a large difference between learning a language as a child and leaning one as an adult (成年人). There was one lesson a week, each lasting 90 minutes. Mr. Kong, the teacher, was energetic. For each class, he would teach us about hundreds of new words. After each lesson, I felt it was difficult at first. Luckily, after a few months, I got used to this. The University of Leeds had many students from other countries. My new Chinese friends helped me go over everything I learned in class. And we often study together and talkabout how to learn well.
I think Chinese grammar is easier than English grammar. But there are so many idioms (习语)! So I would work hard to solve any difficulty and speak Chinese well.
